I finally killed it! I stocked up on a few potions and scrolls (mainly of slow and summon spells) and the shades couldn't do much as I massacred their creator! Then I ran away because they keep attacking. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. damage_nearby can only be called in creature or terrain scripts, not in town states. By the way, what exactly is the purpose of this state and in what circumstance is it called? Are you sure you want to "put_boom_on_char[acter]" 1, which is PC 2? I'm not sure if it'll work, but maybe you should use -1 as the value. Might not work for the same reason damage_nearby doesn't. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I really don't understand the point of these scams. What do they do for the spammer? It's not like you'd be giving out any personal information for them to use against you. If you would like some more the like, I can send you some. In fact, send everything like it to me! -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

Well, the Avernum engine is stable, but it is far from perfect. There are many features and enchancements that would just make sense. I think the old turn system needs to be revamped somehow. Unfortunately, most turn-based games I've played are in the likeness of FF, and they get way too redundant for me. I have a feeling he is going to really expand the AVernum engine for the next game. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

Of course the Avernum games had scripts. Jeff himself said that he would start experimenting with scripts back when Nethergate was his newest creation! Besides, he needs some sort of program to help him write the code, and he really disliked the clunky nodes system the Exile games had. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I haven't tested it, but that doesn't seem to make sense. I'll be sure to try it out ASAP after this message. The script clearly says that "You manage to pick the lock." I don't see the mention of any doors. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Would definitely be nice. I would imagine there would be letters that appear around you when you "pick up" (click on an item and make it turn into the cursor) when there are containers nearby and if you don't click on any of them when you drop the item, it lands on the floor. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. If you are talking about those ghasts in that little bit of shrubbery in the southern most edge of Sweetgrove, they are just a quick taste of undead for low level parties. Kill them and loot as necessary. The Kobolds are not the ones that give you one of the 3 polished entry stones, so kill them and loot as necessary. DO NOT kill the 'Spirit of the Sick' and loot as necessary. It has 1000+ HP as well as an insane attack. You will only have the option of attacking it if you try to trap all 3 of those wandering shades. The 'Spirit of the Sick' will give you a small reward once you solve the Vale's sickness. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Do all the states and such work in your town script as normal? If they do, then there isn't a problem with the town script. Try posting the dialogue script -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. How to get skill points or fine lockpicks? (VODT) in Blades of Avernum | |

You have to be careful when playing as a singleton. A little bit of magic as a COMPLIMENT to melee skills is usually the way to go. Fine lockpicks only add +2, and you could try saving before picking the locks so you could preserve them if you have the patience. But you must have done pretty well to have gotten past that PLatebug Queen. EDIT: Oh yeah, and those shades don't give any experience, and it is nigh-impossible to kill that wisp with a singleton at that stage because you MUST assassinate to do good damage and it summons 3 vengeful shades once it is pretty damaged. It also has a 1000 health on normal with a freezing touch. How do you kill that annoying Wisp in the library that summons shades everytime it sees you? I got it down to pretty low health, but then it gets "mad" and summons vengeful shades and then the tables turn quite quickly. Any good strategies for eliminating this condescending hostile bookkeeper? -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. You could make them special monster groups that hunt the party, although you'd have to make sure that they don't attack and that they dont't get in the way. But they won't follow you out of their specific outdoor area because that's where their script is. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos.
