Many people say the plot doesn't make sense and certain monsters are placed out of context there just for some tough battles. I never liked the dialogue for the BoE scenarios that Jeff made. It didn't seem like Jeff was very involved in writing them. Kind of ironic since he is the one who encourages small, very well written scenarios. My reasons for disli[k]ing the VoDT are 1) The name. 2)The dialogue. 3)Tiny Alien Beasts, and 4)The annoying school of magery in which you can never rest without being set upon by goblins and the monsters keep resetting after you kill them by going from one end of the school back up to the surface. EDIT: I am so sorry, I made a typo in the word disliking. Oh, I guess it is to save time so he doesn't have to completely rewrite the BoE scenarios he already did. But they better have some good improvements in them. I assume the dialogue is preserved somehow. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I have a few quick question about frames in HTML. Can you completely remove the obstructing gray bars that separate the frames? Can you place frames inside a table? Is it possible to display another HTML page in your page, but still make it possible to move the whole page simultaneously? Would this require the use of the somewhat ugly iframes? -------------------- How do signature's work? -Keep Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

You can actually port the BoE scenarios into Avernum?!!!?? I can't believe Jeff would do that when he wouldn't do some of the other things we asked him to do. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Jeff said that there would be a lot of premade scripts for our usage and they should enable us to create reasonable scenarios with minimal scripting. He better include lots and lots of comments on scripting, though. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. The plot should stay about the same but there should be much more to do in the scenario. But if you are talking about making the whole game over in the scenario editor, then you are going to have a lot of trouble. Perhaps a scenario set in the Nethergate universe... I think one of the only reasons why I liked that game even when Avernum was out was because of the blue text options and the bread that reappears from time to time in Nethergate. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Sound like an interesting scenario, but how are you going to implement the empire closing in? Kind of sad since the empire will inevitably win anyway. Another idea for a scenario would be the Empire vs. the Other Empire. Then there would be huge, near pointless battles between the two. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I want to make a scenario where you need to use more than just brute force to win the battles. This will be much easier with the level and pc checkers as well as the monster scripts in BoA. I hope the game engine won't make BoA inherently like Avernum 3 in terms of difficulty. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Avernum is better in my opinion, but that's probably only because I tend to shy away from the Avernum cons. And because I bought Avenum 1 and not Exile 1. And because I thought Exile 3 is just the best[.] I think I broke the continuity of past and present tense in that last sentence but oh well. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Nothing wrong with asking people to make a scenario for your enjoyment, as long as your suggestion is within reason. It would be nice to have a small scenario with a thieve's guild or something which you'd have to join. The initiation would require you either using sneaky tactics to get past the tests (stealing, walking past certain monsters, etc.) or to kill everything. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Make sure everything you plan to do in the scenario will be possible in the Avernum engine. A basic walkthrough would be fine at this point but you can't be too detailed since you haven't designed everything yet. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. My computer isn't that slow, but it can't handle any new games. I think it actually costs around $30 in order to get Microsoft's "expert" answers. I could buy another spiderweb game for that much! But who do you think I can reliably E-mail to have my problem fixed. I don't want to E-mail someone like haxorsupport@hotmail.com or something like that. -------------------- How do signature's work? -Keep Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

You might need a couple of extra spaces to make the mountain seem like a sloping incline (like a steep hill) rather than a cliff. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I mean iexplore is very similar to explorer and shares the problem. Go into explorer and then type in a web address and the window instantly becomes an internet explorer window. Open a web page and type in a system drive, and the explorer interface comes up. -------------------- How do signature's work? -Keep Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

I'm pretty sure that there will be nodes that can be called when a town goes hostile. I am having a problem with my explorer program. Does anyone have any recommendations on who to contact in order to get my problem fixed for free? I have searched the web and Microsoft's database and have found nothing that will help solve my problem. I really don't get this. I presume the mouse is on the left of the keyboard. The computer should read all information coming from this mouse just like any other... Do you think that there will be many different types of attitudes in the Averum engine? I want complex battles with different sides and such. I'm also wondering if the "town going hostile" thing could be a little more complicated than having it happen whenever I attack anything or steal anything. In Geneforge, you could attack certain people without causing the town to go hostile and there was a crime limit. Even the Geneforge hostility system seems a little flawed, though. Why would the whole town go mad if a person, who is living outside the city walls and of whom no one knows about and is actually an enemy spy, sees you steal their bread???? I don't think it would be impossible to create a tomacco type plant, although I don't grafting will make this possible since the DNA is still separate, it is just the scion and the roots attached together. Just like if you have a heart transplant your DNA won't mix with that of the donor. Unless I'm wrong... Anyway, crossbreeding might be successful if you pollinate one species with the pollen of another, but they might not fertilize. If you are going for an extreme solution then you can splice their genes together. I heard that the lemon-lime was produced because a lemon tree and a lime tree's root system somehow intertwined and with a healthy dose of magic, a new plant was brought forth into the world. Refreshingly lemon-lime sour. -------------------- How do signature's work? -Keep Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

They are probably going to be in scenario files like in BoE, except in Avernum format of course. I would assume scripts would be text files, but they could be encoded into the scenario file so people couldn't edit them quite so easily. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos.
