Play BoA or A1-4 first? in Blades of Avernum | |

It is not necessary to play anything before BoA; however, if you want to accustom yourself to the gameplay and some of the Avernum plot, then A3 will work. Has anyone been so annoyed at the carpal-tunnel inducing controls of A1 that they will never touch it again? If it were not for that, then I would recommend playing it for the earliest bits of story. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. The use of items like scrolls, potions, and wands feels pretty random to me. They are often used at the most inappropriate times; for instance, a healing potion at full health. But if it stays alive for a couple of turns, and is of a species capable of using items, it will probably use it. From experience, it just seems that wands will be used most often. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. tl, dr is such an affront to all tech geeks who love stats. Anyway, you shouldn't care too much about that clock speed because it is not a P4. It should have enough power for any common laptop applications, and for some games. But it is from Apple, and from a PC point of view, $2000 could buy you more. After all, the screen size is entry-level. The dual core prospect is still appealing, though. Would you buy this from an Apple store or online? -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I finally saw the movie about a week ago. It was in my opinion the best movie so far in the series. I knew that much of the sideplot in the book had to be removed in order to constrain the movie to a reasonable length, so I was not too disappointed about the omitted material. I just reminded myself that a movie is different from a book. I was annoyed by many of the voices of the side characters, though. The voices were just annoying. Harry and Hermione have grown nicely and look better than before, though Ron seems to have become hideous. Concerning speaking in the third-person, I think that constantly using it is excessively annoying. It is novel when used in moderation, though. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. If you have the patience to set all of the statistics and skills for a character through scripting calls, then it is completely possible to mimic the NPCs that become a controllable part of the party like in A1 and A2. Similarly, there can still only be 4 party members, so a full party would have to give up a member to gain the NPC. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. His obscene post count has spawned automatic Scribbane posts, which simply appear on the board and whose authors really do not exist. I am sure that I saw a wiki (not necessarily Wikipedia) article on Scribbane somewhere, though. That is an interesting position to take on Christmas. Do you disapprove of the Christian history behind it, or the commercialized hype? I tend to believe that Christmas in America is now more important as a secular holiday for spending money, but I simply cannot say that jocular atmosphere and attitude is "fake." On the other hand, I have a cold at the moment so I might not be able to experience as much of the ambience as I would like. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. As a quick note, if there are any invisible monsters who seem to be stuck inside of pillars or walls, do not try to attack them. The larger towns definitely go through multiple stages of deteoriation as the plagues progress. If you would like to see for yourself, periodically come back to Kriszan and do not defeat the slimes. Defeat the roaches so that you can move on to bigger monster quests. Section by section the town will crumble. The smaller towns usually only change once, and the ones that eventually become overrun have an intermediate stage. Major changes in the major towns usually give you a blank automap if I am not mistaken. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I think quality is better than quantity for the last few stick figure drawings from Alex. The last one made me laugh much harder than all of the ones that he did right after coming back from his little vacation. You would suppose my post to be against ECT? Maybe I over neutralized my statements too much. Even though it might not be as dangerous as some potent mind altering drugs, I am irked at the thought of how this method was discovered. Maybe the way in which this started was nice and painless, but I need to look that up when I have some time. Flagellation used to be a common practice in exceptionally devout monasteries, convents, and some religious schools, but I never knew that it was "prescribed" as a medical preventative for anything. I am hoping for some disfigured stick figures for this one. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

Obviously ECT is not widely considered to be the most humane or free of side effects method, but it has been proven to have some success. The electric chair and its characteristic convulsions might make this therapy seem much more dangerous than it is. Of course, no one with heart problems and depression should seek this therapy. I know that in the past ECT had to be done to the extent of causing involuntary muscle spasms, but I do not know whether that is still thought to be necessary today. ECT, like any other non-lethal electrical or physical shock, does not consistently remove long term memories, but it does interrupt short term memory. Brain cells do die, but being shocked into happiness is certainly an fascinating at the very least. I think you already mentioned the radioactive miracle tonic, but have you discussed the medical procedure of divination with a bell for removing metal objects? -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

That was either a reference to some psychological condition, a lack of confidence in one's willpower, or a joke with some hint of sarcasm. I do not think that most people can fully trust their own willpower, and that is why I tend to stay miles away from temptation rather than walk past it while saying no. Anyway, I do not trust strangers, I trust my family, and I trust my friends enough to let them help me in tight situations. But I try not to depend on them for anything I can do myself. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

How often do you have difficulty sleeping? How much sleep do you usually have, and how much do you have during periods of insomnia? If your mind truly refuses to sleep, then even concentrating on the most boring or mundane things will only help a little. You should still have some stretches of a few days at a time in which your sleeping patterns are normal. During those times, develop a schedule before going to bed. Do the exact same things every single night, and hopefully your brain will gain a mode that prepares for sleeping. This particular method worked very well for my former history teacher. I do not suggest lying down in bed trying to sleep unless you have many hours to devote to it. I have no idea why, but trying to sleep exacerbates the problem immensely. Try sleeping somewhere else in your house, but have something passive to help you pass the time, like a TV. If you are spending completely sleepless nights, then you should see a sleep specialist. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

Even with very little sleep, I can function pretty normally. But there are just some activities that require an alert and exacting mind. In particular, playing basketball without sleep, or any sport, will be embarrassing and can put you at risk for accidents. Most actions will just take much more time to do. I do not think that sleep deprivation will kill a person because I doubt that the vital autonomic functions of the brain need sleep to function. All the same, it cannot be healthy to go without sleep. If practically every mammal and many other vertebrates have to sleep, there must be a reason for it. Can you imagine how much more we could have accomplished as a race if we did not need to become dormant for a third of our lives? Albeit that a person is capable of less work during the night, I can only dream of how much a brilliant mind can discover if it was able to think practically constantly. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

When I have to get up at 7:00am, I usually go to bed at 1:00am. That would be 6 hours of sleep, and I try to make up for the slightly low amount of sleep on the weekends. Unfortunately, I go to bed much later on Friday and Saturday because there are much fewer restrictions on the time when I wake up the next day, and I put myself to sleep at around 3:00am. I usually have to do things by 10:00am on any given day, so I then only get 7 hours of unsound sleep. On vacations when I travel, I occasionally have difficulty sleeping because the environments are always foreign and the activities of the day are more exciting than those of everyday life. I can rest at home, so I pack many activities into vacations, and therefore I still do not get much sleep then. Seriously, it is not a good habit to have less sleep than necessary for your body to easily move out of bed. That type of cramping or unwillingness to move usually means that your body needs more rest. Even if the brain is alert, the needs of the bodily muscles are still independent of that. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

I remember reading an online news report about the last few decisions the US Supreme Court made, and I thought they did so correctly. Unfortunately for the other rulings, the Ten Commandment one seemed to be the most popular and important. The Kentucky copy was inside a court building if I remember that right, so the Supreme Court deemed that unacceptable. But the monument outside the Texas court house was just another monument. There are plenty of religiously orientated structures in public view and people do not want them torn down. The monument would be a little less controversial if only it were a little further away from the court house, though. This association between justice and religion is a little too aggravating for certain people, I suppose. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

I know some people in the IB program, and from what they tell me, it seems to be a highly touted advanced program that imposes much work and homework. The material taught is similar to AP courses, but I think that their instructors leaned toward having them read dry information in the books. My suburban school system does not offer the IB curriculum, but quite honestly, I would rather not have it. Being a 4.0 student with IB would probably flush any relaxation on the weekdays completely down the drain. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

I am sure that such an event would be heart-wrenching. Random horrific deaths can lead one to think about chance and the pointlessness of everything as a whole. I am sorry, but I cannot express anything truly sympathetic. You will move on eventually, and I hope that you can find some solace in that soon. I first heard about this strange project of Burger King from a news article concerning the new images of the top fast food chains. McDonald's was trying to appear new and in accord with the young while still retaining old values. Burger King more openly embraced a more radical image. Subservient Chicken and the Chicken Boxing Match are examples of this, as is that awkward commericial with the burger king, as the king of burgers. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |
