Since you seem to avoid asking for friends' or family's help - have you been surfing sites you shouldn't have visited? If you have to get rid of that Xupiter-thing before you can confront your father, I'll help you. :) -------------------- Polaris Rache's A3 Site reformatted 2/3 done Rache's A3 Site, original version Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

As Felwynne already said those game sites for cheat codes have lots of nasty little pop-ups that can give you all kinds of surprises. Something like that must have happened. You can download spybot which will probably solve this problem at least. spybot The download section is at the bottom of the page. Removes spyware and trojans. -------------------- Polaris Rache's A3 Site reformatted 2/3 done Rache's A3 Site, original version Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Surfing is risky. Try a firewall. Seems someone set a cookie and changed your starter site. That happens. -------------------- Polaris Rache's A3 Site reformatted 2/3 done Rache's A3 Site, original version Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

64meg Ram may slow your computer's performance, but do not make files disappear. By definition anti-virus-scanners do not show trojans. For that you need a special program. But: if you delete too often without proper uninstalling, you lose a lot of tiny dll-files after a while. Programs which need those files have to do without and come up with all kinds of queer reactions. Your directory gets messed up and doesn't understand orders any more. It's no big thing, Zephyr. I wouldn't trust people who never crash their systems, they must be rather unimaginative. I remember well what happened when I started to play around with BIOS. Thank God for friends who come at 3 o'clock in the morning to save and heal your precious baby. I saw it coming. So - don't panic. I cannot count the times I've crashed my damn computer, before I learned to handle it. You are still able to boot. Save everything you specially want to keep, on floppy or burn CD-Roms. That done take a heart, get the help of someone who knows how to do it and is willing to show you and format and partition your HD. Don't wait too long. It will get worse, if you don't take action. Zephyr, it's time-consuming, but it is also fun. Everything is so clean and fast and new afterwards. You'll see. -------------------- Polaris Rache's A3 Site reformatted 2/3 done Rache's A3 Site, original version Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

"Yes, that seems a good idea to me as well. Sullust, so sorry, but until I can find out what's wrong with you, your mind will have to go blank - it's like dumbfounded with a few reinforcements. So - done! Firedrake, Wise Man, Maestro, I'm with you. Let's move on to the capital." -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

You need the special DirectX-version for WinXP which you can download from Microsoft. XP has quite a few compatibility problems, especially with games. There are toolkits available: Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit 3.0 [ Friday, June 06, 2003 15:38: Message edited by: ef ] -------------------- Polaris Rache's A3 Site reformatted 2/3 done Rache's A3 Site, original version Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

If it is a compatibility problem the zip-file will not help solve it. You might try the following: Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit 3.0 download the toolkit and follow its suggestions step by step. -------------------- Polaris Rache's A3 Site reformatted 2/3 done Rache's A3 Site, original version Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Kenny, WinXP is problematic with older games. If DirectX doesn't solve your problem there are patches and service packs ready for download that improve XP's compatibility. Try the microsoft site again and see what you can come up with. -------------------- Polaris Rache's A3 Site reformatted 2/3 done Rache's A3 Site, original version Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

We had a spelling reform a few years back. And yes, following the new rules it should have three 'f'. But I don't agree with the ridiculous thing and ignore it. And yes, it's the captain of a steamship company. [ Tuesday, June 03, 2003 08:42: Message edited by: ef ] -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Provided that's really all that's amiss. He complained about his browsers not opening links correctly in some other topic. I know one sweet young lady who delights in deleting programs by putting them into the waste paper basket, never using the uninstaller. By the time she asks for help, because of 'some small function not working properly', it's usually time for format:C. Now I don't say you are as bad as her, Zephyr. But she seems to have programmed my reaction. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

"Sullust? What's wrong? Oh...I see." 'Archmage, not so hasty. Before you kill everybody, ask if they will surrender. Surrender is good enough for us. I don't want to lay the land waste, you know. Bad politics.' "Is everone here now? Fine. Firedrake, let me thank you for getting us support. The wyrm riders will come and join us. It could well be that we will not have to do much fighting, if we appear in strength. Do not forget that the emperor is dead. There is a vacuum now, until a new regent is securely installed. I've heard that General Lewis killed the emperor's family, even the children. It is highly unlikely that the army will give him support, once this is known. So let us make it known, and let us move on to the capital. I for one want to know more about what's going on, and we have to be in the capital to find that out." You must have inadvertendly ordered your computer to use MS-Paint for zip-files. If nothing else helps, you can always repair everything by reinstalling Win98 and MS-Paint. I don't know if you've ever done such things before, if not, better ask someone to do it for you. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

You would not have met so much flaming, if you hadn't projected your moral code on others. It's quite alright to say: my belief doesn't permit this, so I will not do it. Please acknowledge that what you believe in is not the one and only truth that is. What you perceive as God's will can be worlds away from other people's perception of the divine. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

quote:No, I don't think that he believes this. He sees it more as a handicap that God does not approve of. You therefore have to fight your own nature to do God's will, meaning you have to live chaste. Such a choice would make him think very highly of you, and you would have his deep respect and support. If I understand him right, he feels that it is a burden or a cross you have to carry. Divinity, as David sees it, is an authority who rules out a moral behaviour code for humanity. I cannot agree with this vision. If that makes me unchristian, so be it. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

OOC: We got involved in a major power struggle by Alec's invention. Though he did not plan for us to do this kind of battling. That was Firedrake. And it wouldn't be so bad, if all posters would refrain from making the enemy more powerful all the time. IC: ef, smiling happily because she loves 'hopeless' situations calls a mist down on the enemy. "Come on, boys, we are invisible, and they can't see much anyway. It shouldn't be so difficult now." -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |
