The mere suggestion leaves me a bit knee-weak. So just in case anyone is taking that serious - you never know - an armed invasion of Ireland by the US would be followed by a unified protest of all european nations, by force, if necessary. Rubbish. You didn't come out as a jackass. I've been looking for something on Existentialism. It may not be the best translation, I was a bit hasty, nevertheless: quote: [ Tuesday, July 15, 2003 08:29: Message edited by: ef ] -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

But what is right? Mental conceptions can be just as enslaving as desires. Djur suggests the buddhist path of non-attachment, which is a path of non-identifying. It is the path I've always felt most strongly drawn to, though it hurts the ego that has to let go. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Sorry for having been a bit sharp. You were right to stop me there, Ikari. It was in reaction to the suggestion that anything we brought and bring must needs be better than anything a people had before. I'm less bothered by the arrogance of such a mental attitude than by the realization that it is a pretty good excuse to ignore whatever there was before, not deeming it worth more than the most superficial of glances. I won't deny that the current humanitarian situation in Iraq has added a few flames to my fire. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Sun Tzu, yes. Decline and rise - seems a question of definition to me. Definition of decline and rise, that is. They were certainly a lot more cultivated than we can ever hope to be. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Mmh, may I just mention that one of the most famous works on Traditional Chinese Medicine, still a basic one and still a 'must' today, was written approximately 2600 B.C. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

He behaved like a terrorist, because he felt hurt. Outrageous maybe and not justified, just very emotional. My own views on politics differ from his, but that does not mean that I have to judge his emotion. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

quote:Consider something else as well. For Motrax to post as he did was most unusual and shows that he was serious when he said that he feels desperate. We all have emotional limits. Instead of judging and condemning him for his, someone might have reacted to that. Continuing the topic after he most probably got himself banned shows a lack of taste, to put it mildly. Careful research led to the conclusion that Plan B damages cooking pots. Unstable ovens are a pest, don't blow them up. We find other ways to feed hungry bellies. Unstable? It's a catastrophe, if you ask me. Though sentient life need of course not be biological. But who would ever have thought it possible?? -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

I was not suggesting a lack of peace, Iolanda. It used to be the same in Berlin in the former american sector. Trespassers (Germans) prohibited. I just remembered that my father walked with me through that sector when I young, showing me the houses and mansions he knew, as he had been playing with the former owners children as a kid. Long ago. Don't trouble yourself with that. You triggered a memory, that's all. And I'm from Germany, too.
