I know. And it is probably no consolation that every youth here is envying you, because you can get a driving license at age sixteen. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Happy Birthday to all three of you. You've still a weekend before you to enjoy, Wise Man. Twenty's a fine round number and even Alec may find out what age he feels comfortable with. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

The ability and willingness to take risks is what triggers creativity. Without risks creativity dies. Who'd want to live if that was taken away? I wouldn't. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

To be precise, it's Beethoven's Ode to Joy that is the anthem since 1985, in an instrumental version (no text) arranged by Herbert von Karajan. The text belongs to the Ode of Joy, though GC mixed parts of the first and second verse together. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Ed certainly has a right to think and feel as he does. But throwing it at Izzanor at this time in Izzanor's life is like trampling on someone who's already lying on the floor. It isn't quite the thing, you know.. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

I too know how it feels. And I would like to contradict Ed. What leaves you after a time is the feeling of loss. But the feelings of love and relatedness survive unharmed. Whatever she meant to you is a part of you and stays. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Maybe, just maybe people have got themselves so used to get 'proper and overall solutions', that the talent to handle emergencies is underdeveloped by now. When the last war ended, my country's women went out to clean their towns from debris and rubble. They used shovels, wheelbarrows and their hands. They had nothing else. But they did it. They improvised electrical wiring, improvised water wells and shared them. Sure, all that had to be redone properly later on, but during the first years it ensured survival and helped restore the energy that was needed to rebuild everything. Maybe the military's engineers could do no more than improvised repairs. Maybe the administration thinks that inefficient and a mere waste of money. But money has been squandered on worse things than such inefficiency. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Reports of water shortages, lack of electricity and gasoline, diarhhoe because of contaminated water, demolished hospitals, heightened criminality have filled the newspapers now for months. An occupation army the size of that of the allied troops is dragging along a considerable number of technicians, engineers and maintainance workers. I have heard that the US army has a special contingent of technicians who can clean contaminated water, and they can draw on that contingent any time. I fail to understand that almost no repairs have been done. I've given up on that. It is inexplicable as well as inexcusable. Had they wanted to win the Iraqi people's respect and trust, the path to that had been wide open. One could suspect that this nation's people count only insofar, as they might start a revolt, if driven too far. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Tina fluttered nervously, wringing her hands and thinking hard. "There's a healer's hut not very far from here. He doesn't like me, but maybe we should go there. The old man sure needs help." "And why does the healer not like you, say", Maestro wanted to know. Tina eyed him unhappily. "He had a sparkling stone", she murmured. "I wanted it so much." Maestro refrained from comment. Heaving Logalot on his back he sighed and signaled her to lead the way. "You better stay in the background when we reach him, mind. And try not to mess things up, while we are there." Tina snorted slightly, feeling thoroughly misunderstood, yet willing to give such help as she could. She winged through the branches at a modest pace and Maestro stomped behind her. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

OOC: There are no woods between Kadib and Sefil. IC: Bored with the slow progress of her humans Tina the Tiny whirled back and forth, right and left, up and down, as a respectable sprite should do. They were close to a forest now that the men did not wish to enter, muttering something about how easy one lost one's way in the woods. Tina shrugged. Sprites have an excellent sense of direction, they simply don't get lost, but what would the humans know. She also felt a bit hungry and there was that glorious pastry well hidden in one of her pockets, waiting for her to enjoy. Leaving the men behind, so that they would not see her, she winged among the trees, spotted a branch that suited her well and started her dinner. Munching away, feeling blissfully happy, the voices escaped her attention, until they grew louder. She stopped and listened. That sounded familiar. She carefully hid the rest of her pie and set out to investigate. A clearing, and a battle had been fought. Evil eyes slain. Human warriors also, lying among them. So many evil eyes and no one burned them. Tiny shuddered. She didn't like undeads. Worried, she whushed away at a good pace even for herself. Her men had to be told, they would know what to do. Should she have searched their robes and pockets? No, not while alone. She would do that later. Her apple pastry had been delicious and fully justified a trip to this bakery in Tina's opinion. Not being of a sharing disposition, the evil cult's attempted attack on her treasure enraged her considerably. She'd already planned future raids on the kitchen herself. Her two men seemed to be passable fighters, she thought. Maybe she should quite seriously assist them while they were hunting the evil eyes. Consistence was not part of her nature, so this would not be easy for her. She pondered on it, not liking chains, not even selfimposed ones. Greed won. She did a little somersault, well knowing what she was and what not and happy to have it so. Tina eyed Maestro curiously, not having met something like him before. She clapped her wings excitedly. Oh fun! Now she was really doing research. She'd stay with them, sure she would, until they got boring, of course. Flittering around she decided on being useful for a while, so that they would let her in on everything. Secrets, hunts, evil ones - she giggled. Humans were so strange. "The red -eye evil ones, they are all around here. Go south and you'll meet them. They come from ..afar. Over the water. I can't go there. But I could, if you'd take me." she added expectantly. Tina, the tiny, saw him run. She'd had a very satisfying morning on the marketplace, where she'd tumbled the grocer's counter. She giggled. After that she'd chosen to feed a stray dog with the butcher's meat and lured Miss Ogden's cat into the pandemonium. Nibbling daintily on an apricot, rocking happily on her tree branch, she now had to make plans for her afternoon. That old man running around with a sword as if hell was after him, interesting. What was he up to? No good probably. Exciting. Her eyes followed him a while. Then, having finished her apricot, dancing on a twig, mischief in her eyes, the little sprite opened her wings. Her afternoon would be given to ...research. [ Wednesday, July 16, 2003 13:26: Message edited by: ef ] -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

Wasn't a screen showing up in the beginning asking you if you want to change resolution or not? I've run every game in 1024x768, never experienced problems. So did you change the resolution to 800x600 before you started to have problems? That is a very familiar line of thinking for me. Though if you go on with it, it leads you close to solipsism. The link Felwynne gave on that was also by a german guy. Do we feel drawn to that? -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |
