We couldn't do that in BOE? Oh geez... that should've been one of the first things put in. I'm all for it! Jeff really needs the read this! -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

Why wouldn't it? And why would you make such powerful stuff? That's kinda cheap. But oh well... -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

I decided one day, while on my A3 journey, to see what these fabled "Party NPCs" could do. At first, I was reluctant, because my party felt that they had no authority to bring others into thier bloody battles. But I gave in and brought one along. She had less HP then everyone else, as well as lower skills. But none the less, she tagged along and fought with us... for a little while. Apparently she wasn't prepared to be fighting Alien Beasts, as my party had been doing for sometime now. She died... rather viciously. I couldn't save her... she was dead when I got to her. Then I realized I had killed her, my poor judgement of whether or not to send her into a pack of fanged horrors was fatal... Now to the point... I think the NPCs that were joinable (A3) and the NPCs that should be joinable should be computer controlled, as the man said. They should have a mind of thier own, provide clues, and have some personality (to make things interesting). That would be fun... c'mon Jeff, give us our computer-controlled NPCs! -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

Yea, you don't have to get Jeff to put that in, scenario designers can do that themselves. Simple, effective dialouge strings are all you needs. -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

That's supposed to be Erika? Well I guess we all have our different views of imagination. I personally envisioned her young (around late 20s early 30s, due to magical stuff) and a little... how do I say this... hotter? Haha yea I guess. Oh well, that's good none-the-less. By the way... what was that program? How'd you get? And where could I get it? I know I could use something like PSP, but I'm poor and I need cheap (cheap=free) programs I can use, that actually do stuff (i.e... not MSPaint). Of course I'm Windows, damn me, and have none of the wonderful things that I miss in my good ol' Mac. -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! You're so smart! Upon reading this a booted up A3 (which I haven't played in a while) and searched for chairs that I couldn't sit in. I found them... end of story. Yes, they exist. edit: For the Louvre... on the "Current Records" thing you just put on there, could you make that text something other than black? Like Red or Green, something that stands out. It was kinda hard to see. Thanks! [ Monday, March 17, 2003 12:25: Message edited by: EEP_Karzoth ] -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Wait wait wait... they did so have some wood in Exile (Avernum... whatever)! What about all those little cave-trees and the such! There was a plentiful supply of those... if they could make Cavewood bows out of them. I don't think it's that hard really, (back on topic) you don't have to have the graphic's legs all bent and stuff, you can just paste him on top of a chair, looks decent enough... I think... -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |

Yea do-able... tho a heck of a lot harder to put into the main code. If I'm not mistaken, Jeff is done with the main code already. Also, not a big deal but the game doesn't use sprites, it uses actual graphics. Such as Bitmaps for Windows, and whatever Mac uses... LoL yea. -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Are you guys kidding? This is the best printed idea yet. I mean granted, I have thought of this, too, but haven't said anything. I'm sure I'm not the only one. But this is feasible, easily done, and would really open up some new depth. I really like the idea of high/low leveled armor, that would REALLY be cool. This idea is borrowed from games like Diablo 2, and I think that the changing character models (graphics) are really something important. The biggest (maybe only) problem is with people that already made custom PC graphics. LoL they would have to remake them. Great idea man, and Jeff needs to check this topic to at least give us his idea about the matter! -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! (to Al's post...) If you wanted certain items (with thier graphics even), you could just make the item in your scenario. Like say you had "Tales of Kids: Part 1", and there was a unique sword in it, then when you make "ToK:P2" just make it in that, too! Of course if you didn't make the first scenario and the item wasn't from your imagination, then you could ask permission perhaps. Simply done. As far as objectives, that is a good idea and would be worth putting in. But we aren't making the game so we have to control. -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! So you are excepting bitmaps, too? Good... I make the files in bmp and then convert them, so I feel .gifs and .jpgs ruin image quality! And and does anyone know it works to just change the color scheme of wall/floor images to achive a new look? Or do I have to go in and do it pixel by pixel? Newbie question, I know, but I'm lazy and don't have much time to just experiment. I wish I just had this *darned* game! -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Don't confuse them man! New skills/spells in the form of scripted little abilities of items or the such, not new spells in that pop-up menu. Or at least I don't think... Also I had a burning question but I'll wait til I'm sure of what I'm asking before asking. Make sense? -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Err... while we're on the subject, put the link in your signature thinge so the newer people can find it! And I'll send you some of my currently already done stuff soon (about 20 items) and I'll send you my terrains soon. Wait that's all off subject... But really, the possibilites are near limitless when you have a creative mind and soon good (or bad, bad works too) graphics! Well if someone does decide to make new inventory screens, I hope they are a professional graphics designer. One can only imagine the chaos that could insue... or rather, the terrible stuff people will be making. Actually... I guess crappy stuff could fit in any topic, so nevermind Edit: Last bit there! Definatly gunna have to agree with him on that second part. Especially when you're just wasting time (waiting for day 150, or whatever it is in avernum now) and using only your main character. Maybe that's just me but... it was annoying. Other than that... so far so good. Well actually... there are quite a few more little things I'm wondering about. But I'm not gunna ask because I don't wanna spam/annoy you with my thoughts. -------------------- DEMON PLAY, DEMON OUT! Posts: 1582 | Registered: Wednesday, November 13 2002 08:00 |
