That could probably be done by making the boat enter a town at that space with a kraken or whatever inside. The only problem would be with a little boat being next to the big boat (which is the town) for you to enter in and exit out of.

The thing is (and this also annoys me about cloud of blades), you can only center on a monster, as the old targetting system is different to the new one (also annoying w/ blck shades and guardians). A fireball wouldn't be nearly as much fun if it had to be targetted on a monster.

It could be done with a level 1 party, for obvious reasons (ie only make certain people sell the spells), but to restrict mid level or so parties from casting spells they've learnt in previous scenarios probably won't be able to be done.

It'd be a lot of hassle for him though, to use a friendsw computer to set up an account (this may even require using his friends e-mail address, depending on how easy his is to access from a different computer). He would then have to use a friends computer any time he wanted to come and spam. Its a lot of work to do if he just wants to start spouting random gibberish again.

I had a similar idea to this. As BoA will allow for proper variables, it could be set so that everytime you break into a house or kill an innocent person, a variable increases, unbeknown to the player. My idea was then that at the end of the scenario, the player could be given an 'award' if they've done some spectacular deed (like broken into every house and killed every civilian, not that I'm condoning killing innocent people), like a 'well done' sticker item.
(is there a node in BoE to increase a SDF's value by a certain amount?, if so, then it can be done in that as well.)

Most scenarios made will really be an A4, as most are based on the Avernum world (well, its like that with BoE). They'll probably mostly be shorter than the series, but it'll be like having hundreds (well, lots) of Avernum 4s

It seems that many people are thinking up abilities rather than skills. Although lots of these skills sound quite cool, Jeff was originally asking about skills like blademaster and anatomy etc. (correct me if Im wrong here)

High damage isn't a problem, designes can jusrt put in monsters with higher health. The main problem is the damage caps. There will probably come a pint quite quickly where this limit is reached, and people won't be able to have their super powerful parties. It would be really nice if Jeff got rid of that (although I have a feeling he won't)

There are tons of items/ terrain and monsters in the data for lots of the Avernums it seems. For instance, theres a monster which look kinda humanoid, but just grey with a black outline (someone edited this a lot and called it Ugly Monster or something). I can't remember that from any of the games (or am I just stupid/forgetful?). Theres also lots of other graphics left over from A1 and 2 in the A3 data (I think the ToM from A2 is in there)

Petrify would be far too powerful for any mage spell, let alone a mid-level one (in my opinion anyway). It would just kill people flat out.
Making armour etc. can be done as a part of a scenario, but I cant see it being a proper built in skill

You could probably edit the monsters so that they leave a body after they die, like slimes leave slime, undead leave bones etc. It depends if the editor will let you customise that (i cant remember to what extent BoE does it, i think it just depends on the type of monster).

Anyone at least marginally intelligent will realise that playing games is meant to be fun, and that, with games like spidweb's, the fun is in the story. If they just blitz through it with their own party it'll be boring for them - their loss

You could always give a prefab save file to the user and tell them to use it (like election or echoes:assualt). They dont have to, but it will certainly make the game a lot more fun for them (it probably wouldnt make sense otherwise). If people use super parties for low level scenarios, the same goes, it just wont be much fun.

I think a spell almost identical to wall of blades just with a different type of field, either fire ice or (were there shock fields in the Avernum games?). Anyway, whats so bad about capture soul and similacrum. They exist in BoE, so why not BoA - it would just mean that monsters cant be carried forward.
I'll add a vote type thing to marksmanship for archers, and possibly martial arts as well

Like Shakespeare (and anything else that schools make pupils study). They tell you theres all this meaning and stuff, but blatently the writers are just writing normal, nice (or incredibly depressing) stories/plays.

Theres something that may be a problem with the doomguard. A3 (and almost certainly BoA) will cut off his feet. Anything below a v shaped line (where the terrain tile ends), is ignored by the engine. You could probably solve by shrinking the image a bit.
Other than that, its pretty good (I havnt seen the dryad yet)

BoA and Music in Blades of Avernum

What about the background music (or at least sound) that was in A3. I wonder to what extent that will be implementable in BoA. Will we be able to customise it? (I doubt it), or will we just be able to choose between the built in ones? If its the latter, then designers could always include a sound file (optionally) with their scenarios, and just give instructions on how to install it. Even better would be if some clever programmer could just make an app which will install music into BoA (by editing the main resource file on macs, but I have no idea how on PCs). Ill have to try replacing the sounds in Avernum to see if something like that would work.
