Monster Customization Question in Blades of Avernum

I reckon that that could probably be done. Jeff has said that all the stats o monsters can be checked and changed, including cooridinates. So, all you would have to do is check whether the x coord for the PC is greater than the x coord for the monster (ie. the PC is to the right), and then change the monster's armour statistic accordingly.

Of course, the main problem with this would be the frequency at which you would be able to call a script to do this. Hopefully there will be a "call script if attacked" type attribute to monsters.

Er.. Nineteen-Eighty-Four was based to a certain extent on the USSR, so saying that the USA is Orwellian isn't really far removed from saying USA=USSR.

And dave:
The majority of Russians supported their government as well, due to propaganda etc.
And the prosperity thing is maybe a bit iffy, depending on how you measure prosperity (although I don't really know the facts)

Hmm, I don't generally count people who I've never met before as "friends". Nice people perhaps, but not friends. Besides, Spiderweb is obviously some kind of huge computer AI with me being the only real person. Why would I be friends with a computer.

NB. This wasn't supposed to offend anyone, so, If you are offended easily, then retrospectively look away... then.

Laissez faire capitalism will give everyone good jobs. That is, of course, if everyone can go wherever they like in the world at anytime, and they have an infinite amount of time to look round the world, and they have an infinite amount of patience and are omniscient.

Wow. I had a big long arguement on some laissez-faire 'taxes are theft' type site not too long ago. It ended with me being bombarded with insultys and banned without them listening, but hey, as long as they get their tax cuts.
I might have a link to that somewhere...

That protestwarrior website is truly truly awful. Its not their opposing viewpoints that make them morons, but their intolorance misunderstanding and particularly their gross generalisations and stereotypes.

And Mao's just as bad. He's (well taking much less of a role than Stalin and the Bolsheviks) the reason that those idiots at Protest Warrior think that communism has killed millions of people. Power in the hands of a few isn't communism, and doesn't stand up for the workers any more than the current system.

Anyway, something funny, lets see. No. Can't think of anything.

Your wouldn't be talking about Christiana would your Rache? Anyhow, there are quite a few towns set up like that, having grown out of hippy colonies, but Christiana is probably by far the most well known.

Explain this to me. Why wouldn't we have to use roads if there were no taxes? People would still have to go to work, go shopping etc. (I use the word "need" here for want of a better word - "effectively demanded" would be a good one). Maybe I'm missing something, but your logic seems screwed up to me.

Of course we're allowed to choose what to give up; why do you think we have voting? And if you mean that everyone should only be allowed to decide the law for their own self, than that's anarchy. Which I've already said is impossible, and it's stupid, anyway.
Yes, of course!! Because in voting we all decide on individual laws (ie. what "we're allowed to give up"), don't we! And we always get who we vote for, because the current voting systems are based on such a proportional system, aren't they. [/sarcasm]

Surely you should, from what you are saying, not be supporting illegalisation of cannabis, but rather a referendum of whether it should be decriminalised. Am I right in saying this? Would you support such a referendum?

And, just for your knowledge, and I'm not saying it will change your mind, but it may make you think of anarchists differently:

Now, back to pot (just say pot, it's the same thing but less of a mouthful [figuratively, not literally]). Why are you against legalization, Moc, if you know that it would screw high schools up so bad?

Well, mainly as a reply to OtM, obviously people who go into school stoned are gonna get kicked out - same as if someone went to school drunk. Legalising cannabis doesn't mean that you can do whatever you like with it whenever you like (eg. driving laws as well)

The only reason I can think of is that you think we should be able to choose on our own whether we want to smoke it or not, and have no interferance. Well, if that's what you think, I think that's crap. If it's not what you think, forget this part too. But if it is, then I think you are wrong because sometimes, the government knows what is good for you when you do not, and why have a government if they don't do what's good for us?

Um, to collect taxes, enforce laws that stop people harming others and protect liberties. Either that or just have anarchism (which isn't necessarily a bad thing)

Letting us smoke pot is not good for us.

Says who?

Now, I know this could be used against me and might make you people think I like dictatorships, but that is not the case. All I'm saying is, sometimes we have to give up our liberties for our own sake.

I think we should be allowed to choose when we give up our liberties, otherwise it is, as you say, a dictatorship.

It's like drug rehab (bad analogy, if Scorp is still here, but I'll use it anyway); you tell people to keep you away from something, no matter what they have to do, and they do just that. You may be angry during the process, but it's good for you anyway, and you will be glad afterwards.

Yes, maybe if people asked the government to keep pot away from them, but their not. It's more like forced drug rehab

[qb I have not met a single old or middle aged person who smoked pot when they were young, and now wants it legalized.[/qb]

See comments by those above. I will ask Thuryl's question again, to keep it fresh : How many middle aged people have you met who smoked pot when they were younger and don't wqant it legalised? or even: How many middle aged people have you met who smoked pot when they were younger?

'Im sure books on growing cannabis havn't been banned - I've seen them openly advertised.

Wich brings me to an idea about another debate:

Sensorship - should things be sensored. If not, should racism etc. be allowed under free speech. My personal view is yes, all free speech should be allowed, as long as violence does not result or insenting people to do violence results.

Besides, you'd be unlikely to just take a script file from the database and just plonk it in. You'd want to edit it anyway, which would involve cutting and pasting.

Anyway, nodinfg examples for BoE work well enough in just copying (in the old fashioned sense of the word) them
