In the Avernum series you can store your characters in certain major locations, and pick them up again later. 4 PC's is a nice number to play anyway - I found Exile's 6 a bit too many. I like playing singletons as well though :)

Items... literally several million items. A game like this could do it so simply... a run-script to make items, mix-matching attributes and creating all types of crap. Something similar to Diablo2 where random items drop with random attributes. Random prefixes, random suffixes. Limitless (almost) possiblities.

Note for Jeff: Not too late perhaps, even?

I liked the 6 person parties, they allow me to have more melee fighters, which I use a lot of. The 4 person parties limit my flexibility because two people pretty much have to be mage/priests, which leaves only two others.

That's no problem with me - in Blades of Exile, my entire party started out as mage/priests and ended up as fighter/mage/priests.

I'm not sure whether BoA will reward specialization or "multiclassing" more. I'll have to play around with it.

Does anyone know if Martial Arts is actually being developed for BoA?

I never used Scry Monster. Doesn't it just give you the stats for the monster you cast it on?

All it does is shows you the stats of the monster and records it in the Monster Library. I find it's a waste of SP because instead of seeing how many HP a monster has you could be decreasing that number. Besides, why would someone need to record the stats of a monster you fought? By the time you looked at the entry the monster would be dead.

Scry monster was more useful in BoE because it gave you an idea about the powers of a boss and monsters in an unfamiliar scenario.

Indeed. And that is information which can help you plan.

Or save you from a severe whooping, if the monster pulls out something like Paralysis Ray on you.

The nice thing about 6 character parties is you can carry more stuff. I also kind of miss the scry monster spell, but it would probably be better if you can find out a monster's stats and resistances by looking at it rather than having to cast a spell on it.

And I'd go in the opposite direction and say that having monsters with unknown stats increases the challenge. At the very least the designer should be able to choose which information to show and which not to.

—Alorael, who would rather learn by being mangled than learn because of a spell that says everything about a monster. At least abilities should be hidden!

Scry Monster saves you a reload after you die to that ability you didn't know the boss had. :P

A status I would want to see to be set on certain monsters is "Creature flys". I always thought it was weird fighting with bats who were blocked by tables and book shelves and chasms and such. The ability "Creature Flys" could be used so that nothing short of a wall/barrier could block them. Same would go for some of the undead apparitions and such. Ofcourse, maybe I'm just being picky.

The scry monster spell was a usefull tool for scenario desingers. It helps a lot when you try to create your monsters and want to have an idea of how powerfull/weak you wanted the monsters to be.

What I want in BoA is more items and more item graphics. Many of the weapons in the Avernum series looked exactly the same, as did the armour. Artifacts looked exactly the same as the cheap versions of the item!

I want the fire barrier, force barrier, and quickfire spells. Then woe to the towns(which I could do with those spells).

You can have custom item graphics in BoA.

For my personal idea for BoA, I'd like to see a script that is able to increase my AP, though not through the use of items.

Don't worry about that. I made one for BoA. It's in the Louvre. It's not great, but it's not bad either. It's an edit.

You can have custom item graphics in BoA.

Yeah, I know. I will if I ever make a scenario. I'll use different graphics for different item qualities. I hope other poeple will too, because it looks better that way :) .

If BoA works the way BoE did, items with custom graphics will be impossible to take from one scenario to another.

—Alorael, who also thinks that showing item quality with graphics would make identification less useful. Still, having all different kinds of swords look the same is a bit odd.
