Considering Shirley Vogel hadn't been mentioned in this topic before MM's post, I don't think he was asking who Shirley Vogel was. It's possible he was suggesting that she might have a copy of the original Exile I.

Asimov.

But it doesn't really count as a "guess" if I know the answer, does it? :P

You're thinking of Nethack. Confusing Nethack with Angband tends to enrage fans of both games.

This is false on at least two counts:

1) Missile attacks are much harder to parry than melee attacks, and a lot of enemies have high Parry.

2) The best bow in the game, which can be found at the very end of the game if your party meets certain conditions, is ridiculously powerful.

Emerald Mountain uses scripting to keep the scenario in daytime all the time. You might want to look at how it does it and modify it for your needs.

Making a spawner that could reproduce itself seems like a pretty bad idea, really.

You can't get into the Scree Caves until it's time for you to do so. Go to the Castle, keep doing missions for Houghton, and eventually the way will be opened up for you.

The Crystal Soul theft in The Avernum Trilogy

Come to think of it, people didn't know what to expect when they were sent down -- I recall a conversation somewhere in one of the Exile games mentioning that some people on the surface believed that there was no air in Exile and everyone sent there died quickly, while a few believed it was a paradise. So if the FE did send information back, it was kept secret from the general public.

Didn't it? Obviously the FE never came back alive, but they did have those brooches, which were originally designed as long-distance communication devices. We don't really know what information, if any, they sent back.

The Elite Warrior and Divinely Touched traits raise your Blademaster skill. Just like item bonuses, these bonuses don't count toward the prerequisites for Riposte.

Really, they are supposed to be mostly killing things. I like killing things, and if I can get a great plot along the way, great. If you think they are so flawed in a element you deem so important, why do you play them?

We don't. Most of us just stick around for BoE/BoA and to wave our walking sticks at newbies in a cantankerous manner.

Disclaimer: I do not approve of the destruction of the Native American Empires or of the Holocaust. It disappoints me that those that carried out these acts do fit my description for the perfect government, but keep in mind that these governments all failed in the end and were replaced by a superior power. That is the way of the Tullegolite.

So basically, history tells you that governments that believe that might makes right consistently end up being overpowered by governments that don't believe that might makes right. Doesn't that seem like a pretty heavy blow to your philosophy? After all, if might makes right, and governments that refuse to believe that might makes right are mightier, then it's right to refuse to believe that might makes right.

More satisfying for you. De gustibus non disputandum est.

Violent Confrontation: Avernum 1, though you could take any path you wanted, was designed so that Hawthorne should have been the final confrontation. Even if you really are going to be anal and say the game doesn't end unless you escape to the surface: the final gauntlet seemed pretty violent to me.
Hmm. Maybe it was changed for Avernum, but Exile 1's final gauntlet was mainly puzzles, with a few fights here and there, mostly against golems (which barely counts as violence, since the things you're killing aren't really alive in the first place).

You assume that ET believes there's even such a thing as "the wrong hands". His philosophy of power seems to be that anyone who has the ability to do something has therefore earned the right to do it. I hope he won't be offended if I call this a fascist view, since that's pretty much literally what it is.
