I'm inclined to agree, although I didn't exactly mean "atomic" in that sense of the word. :P

It's not that much like Geneforge. The graphics have been updated, of course, but, well, they really needed to be, and Geneforge graphics were used because they were already available. The use of the mouse for party movement... ehhh.

No. There's always Avernum, which is the same game with a different engine.

That is what we in the industry call a royal pain in the backside. Clearing out a bandit lair and getting killed by a random nephil on the way back to town is neither dramatic nor fun. Nor is having to clear out that same lair again every time you want to go through it. I'm in favour of atomic dungeons; you do everything in one sweep, then it's done and stays done.

Yeah, when the game first came out it went kinda like this.

Everyone: Gee, I wonder if Rentar-Ihrno's Vahnatai will be the villains in Avernum 4.
Drakey: It's not the Vahnatai.
Stareye: It's the Vahnatai.
Drakey: Oh wait, it's the Vahnatai after all.
Everyone: Damn you, Jeff!

That doesn't make any sense.

Because the map was imported from Avernum 1. There's nothing in there.

In other words, the first rule of karma is that you do not talk about karma, and the second rule of karma is that you do not talk about karma.

Well, Realmz itself admitted to borrowing the font from Theldrow, an earlier, more obscure and worse Mac RPG.

Realmz was a lot better when it didn't pretend it was anything more than a computerised D&D ripoff. Everything up to version 4 or so was pretty playable (if somewhat buggy). The introduction of 3D dungeons was the beginning of the end.

Well, you need at least four brooches to get to Hawthorne at all, and Erika warns you it might not be the best idea to go in without all five.

I wasn't even trying for it, really; I just happened to notice that the newest account was #7998, and decided I may as well wait for #7999 to appear so I could get #8000. Then I got sick of waiting and registered two accounts at once.

It's only a +1 boost, so it may well have not done so immediately, since skill cost only increases every second time you raise it. I'm pretty sure it does count, though.

Skills do cost more as you increase them, but increases from items don't count.

(Increases from scripted events, like the two Spellcraft boosts and one Dexterity boost you can get, do count toward cost, so if you're a compulsive optimiser it makes sense to hold off on getting them until late in the game. I'm pretty sure increases from canisters count as well, but most of the stat-increasing canisters are found late in the game anyway.)

Uh, no it doesn't. The points you get from items aren't factored into the skill cost in the first place.

Nethergate doesn't have a registration key system. You can get it by direct download instead of CD, though. Email Spiderweb Software and you should be able to work something out.
