And why should anyone care what others think about them? As long as people don't act on their thoughts, they can't harm anyone. And if they do act on those thoughts in a way that causes harm or discomfort, that's their own decision and their own responsibility. There's a good reason why provocation is no longer a valid legal defence in most places.

Mind you, this is coming from someone who hardly even notices what other people are wearing anyway. I'd walk around naked fairly often if it were legal, purely for reasons of comfort. (Well, okay, I'd probably be wearing something most of the time, just so I'd have pockets to keep things in.)

That is, I don't think we've ever actually seen it occur anywhere. So we're talking pure theory here.

True, we haven't actually seen it occur within recorded history, but we can see likely transitional forms, such as ring species (groups of subspecies throughout a geographical area, which are cross-fertile with species living nearby but sterile with species living farther away).

As for the mechanism, the consensus is that different mechanisms apply in different cases. A few probable candidates have been identified: changes in responsiveness to pheromones, changes in mating rituals, physical changes to the genital organs (particularly relevant in insects, which often have oddly-shaped genitals), genetic or chromosomal changes that lead to non-viability of hybrids, etc.

I doubt your browser is the trouble. Sounds more like DNS problems at your ISP's end. Nothing to do but wait for it to clear up and maybe write an angry letter.

Apples to oranges. I was comparing it to the next best weapon that didn't require any ammunition. (Actually, that might be Morog's Sceptre, depending on your stats. Oh well.)

1-9 damage per level, no ammunition required. Compare that to slings, which do 1-4 per level. When a weapon does more than twice the damage of the next best weapon of its type, something's not right.

If you already know exactly what you have to do in order to finish, it's apparently possible to win Avernum 3 in under 20 days, but that's not really normal.

That's a different kind of .bin. It's a poor choice of file extension, really. :P

But I don't know why Expander shouldn't be working. Is it giving an error message?

EDIT: Hmm. Seems as if Expander for Windows can't decompress MacBinary. This actually isn't entirely surprising, considering that MacBinary is usually used to store Mac files, which have resource forks, which Windows can't handle anyway. Try downloading Stuffit Expander for Mac and using it within your Mac emulator to decompress the file.

Redownloading doesn't require a new registration code; the registration information is stored separately from the application.

Anyway, you can get upgrades to the latest versions for both Mac and Windows below:

How would you even go about doing that? There's no way to check for items that were brought in from other scenarios.

Frankly, my advice is to target your scenario toward a party going in below level 30. Combat is best-balanced below that level anyway, and that way if the player goes into it with a post-Canopy party, they're cheating with or without the use of Adlerauge. :P

In practice there's seldom a well-defined point at which speciation occurs; different populations just get increasingly incompatible over time. Dogs are all considered members of the same species even though it's physically impossible for some breeds to mate with some other breeds except by artificial insemination.

quote:
Humanity is such a versatile species that at the moment we are under no real selective pressures. I highly doubt that the situation on Earth will ever turn so dire as to exert substantial selective pressures on human populations.
Not true. As long as people with some alleles are reproducing better than people with others, selection's going on. Selective pressures may have changed a lot, but that doesn't mean everything is selectively neutral.

Of course, your argument assumes that intelligent life arising isn't a very rare event in the first place. If humanity is a unique or nearly unique example in the universe's history of intelligent life arising (as it may well be), then we can't really make any predictions about our future from the absence of other detectable civilisations.

Unfortunately, in BoA scenarios it isn't even obvious there is a readme or walkthrough, because they're usually buried inside the scenario folder along with all the scripts.

*giggles*

Sorry, but Mini vMac emulates a Mac Plus, which is a Mac that was made over a decade ago. Geneforge won't run on it.

I'd tell you how to decompress the file anyway, but there wouldn't be much point.
