Well, if I recall correctly, you're of Asian descent on one side of your family, right? I'd assume that has something to do with it. Since you look foreign, it's assumed you must have spent time in foreign countries and learned foreign languages.

It's not in the trog fort -- the quest for it starts on the little island in the lake to the south and west of it.

Yep; I made this observation before in another topic. One extra spell level doesn't make all that much difference in the long run, though -- I'd still rather start out with spells, even at the cost of losing a spell level of one spell.

Well, telling him doesn't have any adverse consequences later on, if that's what you mean. I forget whether you get a reward for doing so.

quote:
And how about the imprisioned eyebeast west of Cotra? If you kill it the mayor is quite upset about how much they could have learned from it, yet you get some nice rewards for doing so, and if left alone it might trick someone else into letting it escape.
The mayor's judgement on that issue is a little suspect, if you ask me. Cotra's city jail isn't an appropriate long-term containment facility for an eyebeast, and putting a few easily-bypassed warding runes around it doesn't change that. Now if the Tower of Magi was looking after it, that might be a different story -- but considering their track record with dangerous magical beasts, maybe that's not such a great idea either.

On the other hand, casting Repel Spirit on demons usually has pretty disappointing results.

By the way, since you seem to be a talented custom graphics designer, we'd really appreciate it if you were to submit your graphics to the Louvre.

(Mods, shouldn't there be a link to the Louvre in the forum header?)

As a BoA designer, you should know quite well that the reason SW games don't have a lot of patches is not that problems don't exist, but that they don't get fixed. :P

If you're feeling particularly ambitious, and have a few invulnerability potions and/or Heroic Brews to spare, killing Khoth will also allow you to get past him.

There are also a couple of level-40 locked doors in the Abyss that can be used to bypass minor quests, if you're so inclined. Anything above 40 is pretty much impossible to open even for a Tool Use mage.

Strine is the first and only person who can make knowledge brews, though. Expect to get about 35 brews out of him if you saved up herbs throughout the game.

You wanted an example, Thuryl. Here's one that demonstrates the problem pretty well. This is not a particularly dark section of a dungeon, you can see a lot of details, even tiny ones, at least as long as their colour contrasts strongly with the colour of the floor: all the little stones are easy to make out.

But tell me, how many rats are there? No, it's not two, it's three. A lever would be practically invisible. Colours that are close to each other are hard to distinguish. If the dungeon were a bit darker, you'd not see any rat at all.

That's actually not so much worse than some of the dungeons in the Mac version. I remember that it wasn't uncommon to have to squint in order to see dark-coloured monsters in dark areas. So I don't think the problem is primarily from the Mac-Windows conversion (which Jeff knows quite well to adjust for, since back when BoE was supported he used to convert graphics between Mac and Windows and adjust the colours so they'd blend in correctly with the other version's graphics) -- some areas were just plain too dark to begin with.
