Looks like you may have some missing or corrupted scripts. Try reinstalling Avernum 4.

Actually, he's been banned for evading the swearing filter after repeated warnings not to do so. The sig probably didn't help his case, but it's not the main reason.

Not necessarily. You can always salvage the situation by giving your archer some Mage Spells skill. An archer/spellcaster is a good combination anyway, so you're not really crippling your party by doing this.

Aran knows who was being referred to, hence his comment about having had the same association. He's just pointing out that there was someone else who has used "Commodore" in her name in the past, and the one who's posted in this topic is the someone else.

Not really. If he's not doing any fighting, it doesn't matter if he doesn't have any AP, so carrying capacity isn't a concern.

I doubt that it's a particularly efficient strategy, though. If you're going to give him Mage Spells for Unlock Doors (which you have to do if you want to unlock everything), you may as well let him use some of those spells of his in combat as well.

You don't drop every instance of the highest rating, just one. So if there are six 10s and a 9.25, you cut the highest (one 10) and lowest (the 9.25) so that there are just five 10s.

Mind uploading a screenshot somewhere and giving us a link so that we can see if your game is unusually dark on our computers too or just on yours?

(By the way, if you haven't yet registered the game and have followed the road south of Formello, then you're not supposed to be able to see anything. :P )

Char Skill Selection in Avernum 4

One very important thing you should know: the character who has Tool Use should also be a mage. Otherwise you'll find it very difficult to unlock some doors later in the game.

Beyond that, my recommendation is to have your fighters raise a weapon skill until it hits 6 (either Melee Weapons or Pole Weapons; there's no point raising both on the same character). Also, when you have enough skill points to spare, put 6 points in Defence for your fighters so that they can get Parry, which is a very useful skill.

It's good to have at least one archer in your party; put points in Dexterity and Bows, and then in Sharpshooter once it's available. (If you can hold off on putting points in Sharpshooter until Camp Samuels, you can get it trained by up to two points for a very reasonable price, saving you a few skill points.)

For your spellcasters, start out raising the appropriate spell skills (Mage Spells and/or Priest Spells). Hold off on raising Intelligence until you find yourself regularly struggling for spell points, then put Int up a point or two. Spellcraft is a good thing to put points in, and Magery once it becomes available, but if you can hold off on both of those until after Cotra, you can get training in them there.

Endurance is important for everybody, but not so much early in the game, since it gives more HP at higher levels. Hold off on it until later.

Just to clear things up, I can confirm that the new member who has been banned is not TM; he's someone else (an acquaintance of Imban's, as it happens) who has caused trouble here before.

If you liked the demo, then don't be put off by us -- by all means, go ahead and register. (And I'm not just saying that because I'm afraid Jeff might read this, either.)

Just keep in mind that the rest of the game is basically more of the same as what's in the demo: lots of exploring outdoors, solving monster plagues and finding evidence for who caused them, with quite a lot of side quests available along the way.

G2 - Original creation vs. level 3 creation in Geneforge Series

A Rotdhizon is pretty pointless, since it's literally just a higher-level Rotghroth. There are very few situations where two Rotghroths won't serve you better for roughly the same essence cost.

Asking help on picking scenarios in Blades of Exile

By the way, be warned that most of the high-ranking scenarios on CSR have combat that's very difficult for beginners. I'm very proud of my scenario, Roots, but it might make your eyes bleed if you try to play it.

Also note that most of the high-ranking scenarios have little or nothing to do with the plotline of the Exile series.

For a scenario that is Exile-related and isn't too difficult, you might want to try "Spears", by Stareye. It's set in the same world as "At the Gallows" (also by Stareye), but you don't need to have played AtG to understand Spears, and AtG is considerably harder.

Spellcraft vs. Magery in Avernum 4

This is just a quick note, and serves to highlight the bonus of going for magery even more.

I believe we tested this once and concluded that there were no diminishing returns (at least as far as their contributions to Unlock Doors strength went).
