Well, it lacks the immersive plot of E2, and the engine is a little awkward. On the other hand, it's the first introduction to an interesting setting, and while there isn't much to be said for the combat, the towns and dialogue were clearly designed by someone who put a lot of thought into them. 8

Definitely the best game in the Exile trilogy. Its plot is far and away the strongest of the three games, and the Vahnatai are generally presented as a lifelike and complex species rather than a set of caricatures. Tactical combat and technical whizzbangs are unremarkable compared to many later-generation BoE scenarios, but you can't have everything.

Eh. I'd make a reply to TM, but my depressive phase is ending. Since I'm no longer able to preach despair effectively now that I'm relatively content again, I'm bowing out of this discussion. I'll be away for the next couple of days anyway, so I wouldn't be able to continue it for a while even if I were inclined to do so.

That's right; you can only train a given skill twice regardless of how many different trainers are capable of training you in it.

Huh. Perhaps UBB doesn't like it when polls are moved from one forum to another. Sorry about that.

Well, you could make every single page on your website a single gigantic image map containing all the text and graphics on the page, thus guaranteeing that it displays exactly as you want it to. But please don't do that.

Three-letter names ending in H are easily confused with each other. And if you try to pronounce "VCH", it sounds a lot like "Ash". Well, sort of. A little.

That's a pretty bad argument, actually. Internet Explorer parses all kinds of malformed HTML, usually displaying it more or less as the page's designer intended, which only encourages more people to write bad HTML that won't work on other browsers instead of taking the time to do it properly.

The reason that browsers have to have a "quirks" mode has a lot to do with the fact that a lot of pages have been written to display acceptably in IE without any concern for correctness.

TM, believing that the world sucks and isn't going to get much better in the foreseeable future is only "defeatism" if you care about making the world a better place. If that's not your goal, then you haven't been defeated if it turns out to be unachievable. We may therefore conclude that making the world a better place is a poor goal to pick for oneself. As always, Is is strong and Should is weak, and even to say that Should should be stronger is to show weakness.

Ehh. It's an 8 based on size and technical merit alone, even if it doesn't have a whole lot else going for it.

Now, off to Avernum 4 this topic goes!

...

Damn it, if only I'd had the foresight to prepare a humourous image for moved topics.

No, it sounds like this is a different trick, exploiting the fact that beams take a round to turn on.

Okay, so this sucks. Has anything else actually worked better so far?

It's necessary for you to seriously consider and address the possibility that humanity is in fact inherently and irreparably horrible, and that the best anyone can hope for is to stay at the top of the heap instead of the bottom.

Well, I suppose I shouldn't talk. Until a distressingly late age, I pronounced the word "misled" to rhyme with "rivalled".

The hintbook only lists 6 of the crystals, though. It therefore seems to me that it's most likely that he just forgot about one of the crystals he'd already put in, and consequently added an extra one.

When someone repeatedly asks you to stop doing something, it's considered polite to stop. I'm really losing patience with the culture of harassment on these forums that some people seem to have decided is acceptable.

I was actually using "not exactly the forumgoing type" as a polite euphemism for "8-year-olds who only care about killing stuff". So much for politeness.

Anyway, my main point is that I don't think there are many people who actively want the plot of the GF series to stagnate.

I'm also not convinced that it'd be any extra work for him to write more original plots. Ideas don't take that long to think up.

By the way, one major reason why Apple is switching to Intel chips is that Motorola has been very unreliable with meeting production deadlines, to the point of delaying new product releases and hurting sales. This is also why AMD isn't a realistic option -- Intel produces chips in large volumes to tight schedules, which is what Apple wants. A faster chip isn't better if it's not available when it's needed.
