What the hell is Senor Parapluie? I've heard that name before.

For some reason I unconsciously think it has something to do with Saunders, but that goes for most memes that stem from the Spiderweb chats. :P

I have kept logs of all chats since I started using Trillian back in September 2003 or so...

Mr. Umbrella, of course. And here I was thinking you were a linguist.

I need to clarify my question. What I meant was: "What the hell is Mister Umbrella?" :P

The chat database has moved to a new host. I thought it was a bit unfair of me to be sucking up Aran's bandwidth like that. It can now be found here.

Total Traffic for the month of February: 1.3 GB
Traffic limit: 40.0 GB

There's a lot of room left for sucking up.

Er.

You know what I mean anyway.

---

Edit:

In response to your AIM (who knows when we'll both be online again?):

1. As I said, there is no rational limit on bandwidth, and a limit you are unlikely to get close to on diskspace. Feel free to switch to another free host, but be aware that it might have stricter limits on both - though I see you've found one that at least doesn't use ads. :)

2. I do have extremely old chatlogs, but none that are not private conversations. There were no publically organized chat sessions in the time I have been here until recently.

I might have about 10-20 lines saved of an old spiderweb chat I popped into two years ago after Drakey invited me. Can't find it right now, but I doubt it's interesting.

Did you get my email, Tyranicus? I sent you three long old chats.

Everything is updated. The database now contains the 3 old chat logs that Drakey sent me as well as the February 28th Blades chat log and the March 1st General Chat log. On another note, I recently registered a domain name. It's not up and running yet, but when it is,(and I am assured that it will be in less than 24 hours) everything will be available at http://www.shadowvale.net. Until then, my site can be found at http://tyranicus.sphosting.com.

I have yet to see one of those conversations go uphill, now that I come to think about it...

And Tyranicus, neither of the links works for me. Granted, I'm currently on a school library computer running Internet Explorer, but I don't see how that affects things.

Wow, people actually used their real first and last name back in those times.

Edit: And I can substain the 'R' for way more than a quadruple beat without any trouble at all.

The new domain is now up and running, and I have appended last night's chat with the log that Aran sent me.

This is extremely odd. I just tested my link, and it works fine in Firefox, but I just get a blank white page if I try using Internet Explorer. Does anyone have any idea what in the world could be causing this?

The source looks truncated. For example, there is no /title. I don't know html, but there ought to be quite a few forward slashes to lend legitimacy.

Backward slashes are cool too, but there is nothing like the forward slash to make a web page zing.

That was it. Thanks Salmon. I apparently forgot to add the ending slash when I made the file. The fact that Firefox is able see past a stupid error like that and Internet Explorer cannot shows which browser is superior. Not that I had any doubts or anything. :P

Anyway, my site should work on any and all web browsers now. I have only tested it on Firefox and Internet Explorer installed, but it stands to reason that it should work on Opera, Netscape, or anything else.

EDIT: As you can see from the database, I am still missing several Blades chats, and parts of others. If anyone has logs from Blades chats, please send them to me.

That's a pretty bad argument, actually. Internet Explorer parses all kinds of malformed HTML, usually displaying it more or less as the page's designer intended, which only encourages more people to write bad HTML that won't work on other browsers instead of taking the time to do it properly.

The reason that browsers have to have a "quirks" mode has a lot to do with the fact that a lot of pages have been written to display acceptably in IE without any concern for correctness.

I suggest you check this and fix whatever errors crop up.

The thing is, getting IE, Opera and Firefox to display a page exactly the same way is practically impossible. However, if the html code is wrong, the display errors are your fault. If the html code is valid, the errors are the fault of the web browser. :)

Well, you could make every single page on your website a single gigantic image map containing all the text and graphics on the page, thus guaranteeing that it displays exactly as you want it to. But please don't do that.

Actually, given some experience in programming dynamic web pages, it isn't that complex to do so. It also doesn't take as much diskspace as it would to store all these static images on your site. In fact, dynamic images generated with server-side languages (like PHP) are very versatile, and they allow you to have *any* character encoding, font size, style, images and text you want - with ultimate browser compatibility!

It was a joke, all right?
