Poor. Poor plot, poor combat. On the other hand, it IS big. 5.0 -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Yea. It was all over boring. I beat A1 and A2 but I have yet to beat A3 as I allways get bored during it. I give it a 5.5 Posts: 776 | Registered: Friday, July 4 2003 07:00 |

quote:Thanks :) I've actually been wondering about this kind of thing for a while. The Exile series is close enough to BoE scenarios, and they should score better than Bandit Busywork. -------------------- -ben4808 Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

I give it a 7.5 for the same reasons as I did for E3. They're the same game, and I'm not rating it for the different engine. —Alorael, who might lower E3 to a 7.0 if the engine were a consideration. A3's combat is a mess, but the rest of the engine is sparkly in a non-A4 way. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

A3 gets 7.5. It was a bit disappointing compared too A1 and A2. I can't really explain why, but I missed the Divine Warrior spell . -------------------- How many shapers are there? As I read, you say A3 was dissapointing. I was thinking about registering my version, would it be worth it? Posts: 275 | Registered: Sunday, January 8 2006 08:00 |

If you liked the demo, then don't be put off by us -- by all means, go ahead and register. (And I'm not just saying that because I'm afraid Jeff might read this, either.) Just keep in mind that the rest of the game is basically more of the same as what's in the demo: lots of exploring outdoors, solving monster plagues and finding evidence for who caused them, with quite a lot of side quests available along the way. That's good to know, Thuryl. Avernum 3 is my favorite Avernum demo, the A1 demo was a bit too hack&slash for me, and I found the A2 demo to be mind-blowingly difficult the last time I played it. I'm sure I would find it to be a lot easier now, though, as I've been practicing in Avernum games (mostly in Blades of Avernum) quite a bit since. :) Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

Exile 3 was my very first favourite spiderweb game although i haven't reconsidered my favourite after playing all the more recent games e.g. genefores + avernums. however after playing Avernum 3, I thought Exile 3 was better for some reason. Avernum 3 just didn't have that...thing. The "Je ne sais qoui". But it was still pretty good, so I give it: 6.8 Posts: 77 | Registered: Wednesday, February 1 2006 08:00 |

Not as good or as special as Exile III, but it got more replay than Avernum 2 or Avernum. 8.25 -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy Encyclopedia Ermariana - Trapped in the Closet ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! 9.2 It's big. Pretty to look at. Plot let's it down a lot, but this baby was my favourite game for a long time. It's Exile 3, but better. -------------------- And when you want to Live How do you start? Where do you go? Who do you need to know? *Name by Slarty, so blame him if it's filthy... I give it a 7. It's bigger than A1 and A2, but I got bored with it and still haven't gotten past the trogs. It's nice to hunt down and find the earlier experienced adventurers. Nice puzzle in the Filth Factory where you need a mirror to get at minor treasure. I wasted time getting Move Mountains at level 3 before doing it once only to find those areas weren't worth the aggravation. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I give it an 8. It's my favourite avernum game, except maybe for A4 but that game is downloading right now...I love, its big, funny, and quite more complex than the previous avernums. ;) Posts: 446 | Registered: Friday, July 22 2005 07:00 |

Not as good as its Exile counterpart. All too easy. I had bought all the skills and equipment I could and had too much money when I had played the first half of the story. And I found almost nothing new on the map. But still, the atmosphere is good and the first half was enjoyable. I don't like Avernum graphics (as much as Exile graphics). The loot that the monsters drop is too monotonous and number of spells too small. The story and the quests are best parts. 8 Posts: 259 | Registered: Saturday, June 1 2002 07:00 |

3.5 - As with the other Avernum games, the score is derived from the score for Exile 3 (5.5) less 1 point for diminished play value (spells, etc.), half a point for the atrocious Avernum graphics (although not as bad as the Geneforge graphics!), and another half point for being an uninspired remake of a game which was still for sale and playable. -------------------- http://desperance.net Posts: 35 | Registered: Friday, March 3 2006 08:00 |

I guess for me the biggest downside of Av3 was that all that extra space was just spreading out the same 30-40 levels of advancement and same list of ultimate magic items which I got in 1/4th the area underground. Which means to me that the space is mostly filler :/ Posts: 206 | Registered: Thursday, April 18 2002 07:00 |
