That's just weird. It's only supposed to happen in some demo versions. You did install the full version, right? Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

Clegg is in the southeastern corner of the castle, in the guest quarters area with the ambassadors (Hroldis and Glurath). Like many people, he wanders around, but he should stay near the guest quarters. He's a child (with a purple shirt, if memory serves). Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

(Scans coming soon *if* I can get the scanner to work) Salmon : Honestly, if you're too lazy to download 7-zip, a *free* utility that can decompress RAR files and is much better than WinZip, you don't want to play Homeland. EDIT : Map of Octavia sent. ;) [ Saturday, February 09, 2008 01:21: Message edited by: The Lurker ] Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

I do have the hintbook maps... They're not that helpful, but I suppose I could try to scan them. :) Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

The first puzzle in the ruins can be easily solved - if you've searched everything carefully, you should have found a chest in the sewers with a book that gives you instructions on how to operate the manual override. The puzzles in the lower level are pretty easy - just activate as many levers as you can until you can pull the central lever. But do watch out for that nasty resetting lever puzzle. As for the "radioactive Stone of Night", that's one of the funniest things that's ever been said about Homeland. :D Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

Leather Armour is awful. Buy one or two Snakeskin items for Keegan instead - that's all she really needs. Also, make sure you're using the right party options - make sure the hand icon isn't selected, and use normal (not berserk or defense) mode for Keegan for now. quote:A big thank you for this post, Imban, I really appreciate it. After carefully reading the Homeland archives, it's pretty clear that the beta versions of Homeland were indeed awful. Countless bugs and engine problems. I don't know why Spiderweb chose to publish Homeland either. While I think the latest version can be a rather enjoyable game if you spent enough time reading the manual and experimenting with the engine, it suffers from a severe lack of polish, it's not nearly as long as an Avernum or Geneforge game, and the confusing fights will most likely make Homeland lose some potential players. By the way, I wonder why Steven didn't list you as a tester. Many he only listed the Alpha testers, or maybe you had another nickname back then. Well, talking about Homeland, Richard White, *and* the nine-headed cave cow in the same thread is a sure way to threaten the world's balance. :) Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

quote:Thing is, the RWG cult started out as a bunch of people spamming the poor unused forum, then wondering where Richard White had gone, whether he was even still alive, followed by a bunch of some more spam, and you know the rest (Pan Lever : seventeen apple roving mirror moiety. Of turned quorum jaggedly the. Blue?). In fact, most of the people who are/were part of the cult didn't even own the RW games. Seeing as Homeland doesn't even have an active forum and S.J.Morris is not nearly as mysterious as Richard White, I say we build an altar for Slartucker's nine-headed cave cow instead. Just so you know, this whole fiasco is being dealt with privately, so as to avoid more off-topic posts. [ Thursday, January 31, 2008 06:36: Message edited by: The Lurker ] Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

See everyone? Now that's a nicely phrased post. :) "Walking" is actually "sneaking", by the way. One of the manual's many mistakes. To walk, you have to hold shift, then move around. To run, you have to right-click on the map. To run *really* fast, you have to right-click on the map while holding shift. Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

Fact #1 : Some people like Homeland. Fact #2 : Imban doesn't. Fact #3 : Saying that "Homeland isn't worth playing unless you're really bored" is *not* "expressing your opinion". He was basically saying "Nobody should even try Homeland, and those who pretend to like it -because it's clearly not possible- are subhuman cretins and should be ignored". That's inflammatory, to say the least. One of the biggest problems with the Spiderweb community in that many members seem to have an endlessly inflatable ego, that causes them to constantly ignore (or worse, flame) those who disagree with them. Things like Imban's bad behavior happen a lot, and this is especially obvious in the Lyceum reviews, full of contempt and mediocre sarcasm. I can hardly blame Imban for being like most Spidwebbers, but that doesn't mean I have to like this fact. Fact that has caused so many flame wars, bans, and angry "I'm leaving" posts. If you're going to bash something, at least make it funny, like Archmage Alex. Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

Sober : When one of your character dies, you get a death message. Click the OK button to display the menu, and click on the Quick Load button. It should work. If it doesn't, you might want to try enabling Windows 95 compatibility. EDIT : Oh, and *don't* fight Maglius over and over. You really aren't supposed to do any leveling in Homeland - the game is specifically designed so that the main quests (and the subquests) will give you enough XP. Imban : Quite frankly, I'm not sure why a bunch of oldbies decided making fun of Homeland was incredibly funny - especially when they clearly don't have a clue how to play the game - and go out of their way to make Homeland look bad. You think Homeland is a bad game? Fine, that's your opinion. But I've never seen a single Spidwebber really explain why you hate it so much. You're a moderator, Imban - and I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to troll in the forum you moderate. Please explain why *you* don't like it, and please don't act like hating Homeland makes you hold the One Absolute Truth in the universe. Believe it or not, there are people out there who sincerely enjoy Homeland. Hehe, well, it *is* about one of Spidweb's (former) games becoming freeware - that doesn't happen every day. If I had posted about the RW games becoming freeware, this thread would probably have reached its 15th page already due to a Cultist Invasion. Hey, that's great, Alex! I loved those two strips, but wasn't sure where to find them. :D It just about sums up what many Spidwebbers thought about Homeland. EDIT : I don't think it's meant to offend anyone, Jeran Korak, it's just a joke. EDIT 2 : Hmm, I missed your website's last update, it seems, seeing as the Homeland strips have been uploaded. The demo is supposed to end just before you can leave Whitewater, but some old versions of the demo are still around (some of them are on Spiderweb's CD), and these versions unintentionally allow you to get you of Whitewater, but since it's only a demo lots of files are missing. So don't worry - the full game works just fine. ;) The demo on Dragonlore's website seems to work as intended, interestingly enough. EDIT : On some computers, Homeland won't run properly. The 1.03z patch fixes that, as well as a few annoying inventory-related errors. quote:The problem is that H2's coding didn't use DirectX well, which apparently caused lots of engine-related problems. I did ask Steven about the code, but it seems he forgot to reply. I'll have to ask him about it again. EDIT : By the way, everyone, don't forget to install the patch I mentioned in this thread's first post - sorry to appear redundant, but it's pretty important. :P [ Tuesday, January 29, 2008 03:06: Message edited by: The Lurker ] Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |
