quote:Long, heck yes. Detailed, sure. Interesting, well, the hackfest gets a bit boring after a while. I prefer the Avernum 4 hackfest or even the Canopy hackfest. I think the best things in this scenario are the fight with Nolagh-Khar, the puzzles, and a few cutscenes. At first I thought Bahss had an interesting gameplay, but after hours of mind-numbingly boring undead hackfest, well, I gave up and finished it with a god party. EDIT : Also, for a short, humorous adventure that will make you think (in the intellectual, strategical sense, not in the philosophical sense), play The Cave of no Return. I voted for Avernum 4 each time. EDIT : Also, I'd rather have the BoA graphics than the BoE graphics. However, I do hope that it won't prevent the use of boats in Avernum 5, or else I could be very very upset. As for the joke question... I voted 'neither of the above'. Not sure if you can really compare the graphics, anyway. Homeland has real-time 3D animations (you can see this quite well when fighting Giant Spiders, for example) and 3D cutscenes, Homeland uses 640x480 (or is that 800x600?) resolution, and I think it depends on which graphics are compared. For example, the Maskim graphics in Homeland are awesome, but the A4 doors graphics look in my opinion 'prettier' than the Homeland doors graphics. Right now, my favorite Spidweb games are Geneforge 1, Homeland : The Stone of Night, and Avernum 4. The Blades games are a bit too hard for me, and I haven't fully finished Geneforge 2 nor Geneforge 3 yet. I played the Avernum 3 demo and liked it quite a lot, too. Since I bought the Avernum Trilogy (finally!), I'll likely play A3 again when I'm done with A4. So yes, I do think Avernum 4 is a great game, but I wouldn't say it's the best Spidweb game yet. Still playing with my frail party. Carrying stuff around is starting to become a major pain, and I have to put a bit more points in my nephil's strength than usual. Combat is still quite easy (I killed Kravvit-Bok and Hrickis with no problems), and I really appreciate the fact than my slith is leveling faster than usual. Thuryl - you may be right about this, but I can use my extra skill points however I want, which is nice. And hey, my slith still gets free bonuses to pole weapons, my nephil gets bonuses to Gymnastics (he has a lot of Dexterity, too, so he's hard to hit in melee), and my mage/thief is much more powerful (both in unlocking and spellcasting) than before. EDIT : Also, I am playing on Normal difficulty. I always play on Normal. [ Tuesday, April 25, 2006 07:49: Message edited by: The Lurker ] Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

I would definetely be Lawrencium, first because the appearance of this element is unknown (just as is mine), second because not much is known about its properties (again, fitting. you never know when I might stab a n00b in the back. bwahahaha), third because Lr reminds of 'LuRker'. quote:Last time I fully played A4 I used a slith halberdier, so I forgot about the Frozen Blade. I never used the Shockwave Bow either. However, I can tell you how to get Demonslayer : go to Patrick's Tower and speak with Solberg, who will tell you about Lord Bhoralon. East of Patrick's Tower, guarded by some lizards, is a stairway. Go down, then go northwest. Find the red demon (Lord Bhoralon). Kill him. Go back to Solberg, tell him that you killed the demon, then ask him about where Demonslayer is. Go to Fort Emerald. From here, go north, then west, then north as soon as possible, and hug the wall, going north until you find a secret passage. Enter, go down, deactivate the golem-spawning machine to the southwest (if you can), and use all of the panels in both control rooms (northwest, southeast). The entrance to the Demonslayer Hall is southeast, and is protected by blue traps, get rid of them and follow the path. Kill the demon and the golem (make sure that, each turn, you attack the one that isn't protected by the magical barrier). Use Smite on the demon, and Acid Spray, Lightning Spray, and physical attacks on the golem. Once the golem falls, get Demonslayer. EDIT : You can also use physical attacks on the demon. Once one of two guardians falls, the remaining guardian will no longer be protected by the magical barrier. After reading jestrada5's thread in the AT forum, I thought I would try something similar with A4, just for fun. So here's my party : Ssschah Slithzerikai Blademaster Brittle Bones Frail Mmrrr Nephil Archer/Explorer Brittle Bones Frail Mycroft Human Priest Strong Will Frail Cordelia Human Mage/Thief Nimble Fingers Frail Well geez, at first I wasn't being serious, but now I am considering replaying the whole game with this party. My PCs are leveling up really fast. If I keep playing, I'm pretty sure my slith will be an ur-blademaster in no time - and he should be able to get some Parry quite early, too. So far none of the enemies I've met have been too hard - and I haven't even used the Daze spell yet. Even Blackfur was a pushover and the Fort Draco shade wasn't that tough. I had to use a bit more armor than usual for my slith, but that was all. So, um, I'm afraid I strongly disagree with Schrodinger about Frail. Dexterity does not [EDIT : seem to] increase bow damage in Avernum 4. Strength, on the other hand, may increase it a little, I think. EDIT : Okay, I think we need an expert to confirm this. :P [ Monday, April 24, 2006 02:05: Message edited by: The Lurker ] Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

I thought everybody knew I liked Homeland by now... Anyway, I bought Homeland, finished it, and enjoyed it a lot, even if it was pretty difficult at times. Interestingly enough, I found the endgame (by 'endgame', I mean the Isle of the Winds and Necru) to be somewhat easier than some fights in Octavia or Buolkaloch. And by the way, there are some combat tricks that aren't in the manual. But, duh, the manual lacks a lot of information and you have to figure how the game really works yourself. Once you do, though, it's a lot more enjoyable. Especially once you get past the demo area (which is why I said you shouldn't rate it if you haven't tried the full version : the demo is missing a lot of enjoyable things, especially spells). I definetely am not the only one who enjoys Homeland (and you should know that if you visited the Dragonlore boards before they were taken down), but I'm pretty sure I'm currently the only active member on the Spiderweb Message Boards who likes Homeland and openly admits it (sadly). EDIT : I read the new scene. It made me laugh, as always. :D [ Monday, April 24, 2006 01:51: Message edited by: The Lurker ] Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

Yay, a sequel! All hail the mighty Dikiyoba! So, if the dead members come back to the Forums of the Living, they might become... undead? I can't wait till Ephesos comes back *evil grin*. Also, if you need someone to check how the poor n00bs are doing, I am volunteering. I like Homeland. Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

Phew. And I hope boats will be back in Avernum 5. :) Posts: 363 | Registered: Wednesday, February 22 2006 08:00 |

quote:Hmm, I thought the Black Shade of Ice to be the easiest one... The Vengeful Shades it spawns fall quickly to Divine Retribution and Fireblast, and when it's 'invulnerable', you can still do good damage using bolt of fire and repel spirit. The Red Shade of Hatred, on the other hand, uses very powerful attacks and keeps spawning monsters. I had to use two invulnerable potions to beat it (I probably could have beaten it without them if I had waited a little, but I chose to destroy the Shades as soon as possible, which means I hadn't even the Divine Host spell yet). ...And you need 16 tool use to turn off one of the machines in Rentar's second keep. By the way, you don't really need Demonslayer if you use Pole Weapons. And even if you use Melee Weapons, it shouldn't be too useful. Although I suppose it could help when fighting Rentar, since she's vulnerable to Repel Spirit and all that demon/undead-killer stuff. Let's see... Armor : Emerald Chestguard - Nociduas's Lair (Slith Lands near Cotra). Pole Weapon : Jade Halberd - Darkside fortress under Fort Saffron. Melee Weapon : Radiant Soulblade - Darkside fortress in Erika's Ruins. You need to beat Dorikas before you can get it, though. The blade is in a box behind the portal. EDIT : Schrodinger's FAQ says that the Radiant Shortblade does more damage. I prefer the Radiant Soulblade, though, due to its bonus to parry. To get it, complete Crewl's quest to kill Annatolia (in Bargha). To get the quest, you must first speak with Annatolia, and tell Crewl she wants to kill him. Bow : Heartstriker Bow - Dark Lands, guarded by a bunch of pylons that will come to life when you get too close to it (the bow itself is in a pile of dirt, your party needs to have 25 nature lore to uncover it; keep in mind you don't have to concentrate this skill on one person).
