Exile tends to be much more complicated than Avernum. It has a lot more spells, a lot more tactical challenges, and a few features that Avernum doesn't have, such as conveyor belts. Scenarios are also much easier to make with the BoE editor - you do not need to create TXT files for your scripts. I'd say BoE is definetely worth buying, if only because of the fact that there are so many BoE scenarios out there (and, in my opinion, all of the BoA scenarios released so far are not nearly as 'good' or 'interesting' as some [read as : a lot of] BoE scenarios, perhaps due to the engine).

Blasphemy! Divine Retribution was never effective against demons! Now, if Ephesos had cast Ravage Spirit, I would have understood, but I think all demons are immune to most magical attacks, including Divine Retribution (in A3, it only damages living targets, and in A4, it's a fire attack, and demons are very resistant to fire).

Moral dilemmas in Avernum 4

1) Accepting Bragg's offer has no consequence whatsoever. You won't meet him in the Abyss. It's a bit like that Haakai/Stone Circle part in Avernum 3. If you choose to free the demons, it has no consequence.

2) I usually don't kill Krytos. I don't think his treasure is all that interesting anyway. Also, it does seem immoral.

3) I never felt that bad about Crain, perhaps because he's a real jerk. The "I flirted with their crazy daughter, who wouldn't" part especially made me want to kill him. Had it been a real life problem, I would of course have acted differently (I don't believe in killing unless it's really, really necessary), but I'll use that lame excuse : it's only a game, and death in Avernum doesn't seem to be as bad as real life death. Sigh.

4) At first, I felt really bad about the Infernal Shroud artifact quest. Killing the drake and the dragon's familiar just seemed wrong. On the other hand, the drake doesn't seem to mind being killed, and I think demons are just banished if they're 'killed' in the Avernum plane, so they don't really die (a proof : Grah-Hoth was killed in A1, yet he's behind the Tower of Magi attack in A3).

5) Grint was so funny I almost felt bad about killing him. Almost. :P

Yippee, new scenes at last!
Now let me get my Homeland Demonslayer blade with +10 bonus to hit and I'll be ready to fight that Haakai.
*takes a deep breath and prepares a teleport spell*

Oh wait... maybe I won't even get to fight the Haakai, seeing as how powerful Ephesos is.

(Also, how many skribbane potions does Alorael have? He must have a summon skribbane spell or something... :P ).

Yes, but it's actually only for Linux, not Mac.

Whoops, sorry. I guess I got it wrong. It must be because it has been a while since the last SubTerra 2 thread.

Because is only for Win. Right?

I doubt it. SubTerra is only for Windows (even if SubTerra 2 is only for Mac), and yet many see it as the only potentially worthwhile non-JV Spidweb game.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info.

And, uh, I wasn't that agitated, you know. I was just surprised that Jeff could possibly have told another customer not to buy A4 after what happened. But since you weren't directly involved, your post is much more understandable. :P

There are some ratings out there I have trouble understanding, though. I mean, why would tehGRICH2 be rated NC-17? Is it a joke? Or did I miss something?

Spawner graphics: G1 vs G3 in Geneforge Series

I thought the G1 spawner looked like a giant mutated carrot, and I thought the G3 spawner looked like some kind of mutated fungus. While I think the G1 spawners are somewhat prettier, I also think that the G3 spawner looks less ridiculous and more realistic.

Overall, I think I prefer the G3 spawner.

Nope, not if you have the latest version. In earlier versions, the Devourer would not be able to kill Braccus if you did something wrong (I do not know what that thing was, I never experienced this bug, I just read about it on the Dragonlore website), and you wouldn't be able to teleport to Necru, which meant that you couldn't finish the game. This has been fixed, and I finished Homeland several times without problems. I do think there may still be one bug, though - if you re-read a certain book in the Lauriston catacombs when you're not supposed to do it, you may not be able to finish the game (I don't think I ever tried it, but this bug is mentioned on the Spiderweb tech support webpage about Homeland). I can't think why you'd want to re-read said book, though. Only a beta-tester would want to do that. I'm pretty sure most players wouldn't even notice this bug.
Also, I really don't know why you all dislike Homeland so much. Maybe you just don't understand how to play the game, or maybe it's just that someone who enjoys JV RPGs isn't likely to enjoy Homeland.

EDIT : Okay, I can't post my screenshot. Let's just say Dintiradan for now. :(

EDIT 2 : Maybe if I 'linkify' it? Behold the Soul Devourer!

Things that bug me about A4 in Avernum 4

1. I somewhat agree . Fighting a few Runed Pylons wasn't bad, but a ton of Runed Pylons is simply too much. Fortunately, you don't actually have to fight the Runed Pylons near Rentar's second keep - there's a trick to get past them, even if you want to get the Heartstriker Bow. I liked the Radiant Pylons, though, as they weren't as bad.

2. I agree on the fact that carrying capacity sucks, but I disagree with the way you want to solve it. Not only would it not make sense, some people (*cough*such as me*cough*) don't even use quickslots.

3. Yep, I also think this is annoying, but on the other hand, you don't really need to buy skills to finish Avernum 4.

4. There aren't that many undefended turrets, actually. How about turrets who would have a longer range than yours? Nevermind, I'm evil. ;)

5. Sounds interesting, but I still prefer the A4 resurrection over those of the previous Avernums. The idea that fights should require more strategy does sound nice, however.

EDIT : And rentar is a she, by the way.

You cold-blooded opponent of vahnatai life. :)

Nah, I still think the ending is better if Rentar survives. Remember what Ghall-Ihrno said? That the vahnatai were going to heal her and all that? It's better than killing her, isn't it?

If you keep being nice to Rentar you get a better ending, and the final fight will also be a bit easier.

1) Homeland is not a virus and doesn't cause any damage to your computer.
2) Give it a try; who knows, you might like it.
3) Kingy - there are indeed people who like Avernum 4 (like me). Just in case you didn't know, there are also quite a few people who like Homeland - but most of them used to post at the Dragonlore boards (now dead) instead of the Spiderweb boards, so may not have heard of them.
4) Dikiyoba - nah, I'm not a virus. Or, if I am, it doesn't have anything to do with Homeland. :P

Just read the new scenes. Needless to say, :D .

(Off-Topic : I said in a previous post that the Dragonlore boards had been taken down. Well, you can still read the archive here, should you be interested.)

EDIT : Whoops, sorry... I had a problem with my browser's back button, and it posted something on its own. Oh well, Alo can delete the double-post if he feels like it. ;)
