I have a few ideas. If I can find one that isn't too boring, cliched, sick or difficult to do, I may or may not make a scenario, if time and laziness permit. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

You could give the item a special class, and check how many they have before and after calling the shop, perhaps. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. New Mac BoE Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

You didn't mention Sandman, so I will. I loved the first volume of Promethea, but I hated the third (and the library didn't have the second). And don't forget about manga, although I've not read enough to make sensible recommendations there. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Most open source licences still keep copyright. And something like the GPL wouldn't work without it. It's just that open-source licences give more rights than you'd have if there was no licence. I keep meaning to add in the IP address, but I can never be bothered working out how to graft it into OS X's deviant method of resolving names. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

I find my Desp access rather unreliable, with the same sort of error messages. However, I only get that from home dialup. At university, it works fine. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

I'll put a vote against Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. He could be a good writer, but he needs a severe beating from his editor. The books go on and on without ever really getting anywhere. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

With compulsory third-party motor insurance, we do effectively have a system where you pay for the accidents you might cause. Of course, different premiums, no-claim bonuses etc change this, but it's not far off. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

It seems that with Terminal.app, bash and tsch both show things without a newline: Some versions of OS X use tcsh by default, others use bash. I don't know which ones use what. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

OS X does include gdb. To use it, type "gdb myprogram". It'll work better if you compile your program with debugging information in it, thusly: "cc myprogram.c -g -o myprogram" The CC for OS X is GCC, but I don't know whether it can be invoked on 10.2 by typing gcc. It should still give output, if it doesn't have the newline at the end. It's just that the shell prompt will be appended to it in a rather ugly manner. As for a free good programming text editor, I just get by with the one that comes with project builder. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Project builder is probably overkill for that sort of thing, although you can do it. You want the project type "Tool" or somesuch. If I were you, I'd use Project Builder only to edit the files, not part of any project. Then go to terminal and compile them with "cc thingname.c -o thingname" or perhaps "make thingname" -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

As you may know, I work part-time at a hotel. I have just got my nice new nametag. It contains my name, and the hotel's motto. The motto is "built for pleasure". This amuses me. -------------------- Barcoorah: I even did it to a big dorset ram. desperance.net - Don't follow this link Posts: 1798 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

One day later every time someone asks. Obj-C as done on Macs is not really cross-platform, although a fair bit would probably work on NeXT, and GNUStep may be useful. You can do things in Obj-C that automatically take advantage of OS functions like spellchecking and so forth much easier than in any other langage, although RB is probably easier to use in general. Cocoa uses a slightly different method for linking functions to buttons in a GUI than the Basic-like things I've seen. Instead of the button calling its onClick or whatever when you press it, you have a controller object that generally handles all the UI elements in the window. It takes a little getting used to, but it encourages some more interface/logic separation.
