I'm still waiting for Jeff to get around to installing my free spycam so I can ask him whose been playing with my computer when I'm not around. I see Apple has them in the new computers so Jeff just has to download the images when you log on to the boards. Didn't you ever wonder why there are more delays when you open a thread? I only used cheats three times. Once in Exile 2 when my saved file had a glitch where I was trapped through no fault of my own. In Blades of Exile I accidently rolled past the money cap into negative money and didn't want to collect enough to give me positive cash flow. The last was in Avernum 2 where it was my fault and i didn't want to start over so I recharged my spell energy and went out to redo the dungeon properly. I hate to use a cheat, but sometimes after weeks of work you just need to do it. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

The one who tells you the Big Secret is barely able to talk. There was one big hint in the Temple to the north on a pylon and some minor hints scattered through the wastes. It does resolve the Geneforge and Avernum worlds are probably separate. Still it was worth the effort. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I knew that I would drop without all those posts in Avernum 4, from 9th to 15th. Oh well, time for more posts to build up my monthly count. Maybe General will have some more interesting topics. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

In Exile the mage spell levels get added to priest levels plus the additional Anama levels. In Avernum you only get the Anama levels and lose the mage levels. It is a challenge in both games to use potions and other items to mimic mage spells. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I enjoyed the Exile versions more than Avernum. I agree that you should play the games in order because the older games seem poorer because of the interface. But play whatever seems fun since you might as well enjoy yourself. Each game has something fun. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I think the fort you cleared is west of the Abyss. If so that is the one Khoth destroyed and not the one you want. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I haven't seen the movie, but I have seen since 9/11 that Bush and comapany haven't improved security for the US. They slashed the Clinton program to employ more police officers on the streets. Enforcement of the borders is a joke. The only form of transportation to get more security was passenger airlines. A fugitive transported himself across the country by getting himself shipped in a cargo container. He was spotted when the carton broke open as it was being delivered to the house after the airplane ride. In Arizona, the sister of Senator Kyl found a backpack left behind by an illegal alien crossing in from Mexico. The FBI came when the papers were writtren in Farsi and a phone number for Tehran, Iran was found on one page. Was it just another job seeker or a terrorist exploiting a porous border that still hasn't been fixed? Bush has never solved the problems of 9/11 and has only laid the groundwork for another Gulf War. But when you don't hear criticism of your wrong policies you don't fix your mistakes. A better idea would be the Return of the Sholai, where the survivors of Sucia Island in GF1 make a boat and return to their homeland to tell of what happened. Now years after GF4 and the war between the Loyalists and the Rebels, they're back to gain power. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Regarding Athron's lair, you give the dragon a chance to step aside and who cares about a demon. Besides there isn't much loot except for the Infernal Shroud. The books are still there for Athron. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

The Clinton administration tried to correct for job imbalances by offering training programs in order to correct for the lack on local jobs in outsourced fields. Two main problems occurred. First the new jobs tended to pay less so the standard of living dropped and the ability to pay other workers diminished and thereby endangered their jobs. The second was that the new jobs were outsourced so the workers had to start over with training. I'm encouraging a friend to have his kids grow up to be elected goverment officials so they have jobs that are guaranteed by law not to be offshored, Even some service jobs are being outsourced. They are testing having fast food drive thru order taking being done in one location for all franchise stores. The peak demand will be at different times so they will use few employees than the current system. Letting the market adjust itself means a severe dislocation because of not only the training time to teach new workers, but that the teachers may no longer be here when the market readjusts. By making the system be worldwide means that some areas will collapse into depression while the world is doing fine. If you are in the collapse you don't think this is working. Sorry. It's just your work had the same effect as reading Lovecraft's Cthulhu works on me. I hope it won't last as I read episode 2. I tend to think of authors and the writings as a continuous body, much like Avernum 4. I must remember to not read Dikiyoba before sleeping. I had a nightmare where I was with a group of Spiderwebbers and we were trapped in a forum. I woke just as TM was about to speak. *shudder* 1 think I was spared finding out the uncensored version of what TM said in the Blades of Exiles forum. Maybe tonight I'll have a nice relaxing dream where I read an unpublished Tolkien manuscript. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |
How hard it it to beat Geneforge or Avernum games in The Avernum Trilogy | |

It really depends upon the player. I've played in Torment mode and found that you can get through the games if you think a bit and take your time when playing the tough fights. Geneforge is easier to die in and you have to stay in combat mode most of the time when exploring. Avernum is more forgiving of mistakes and lets you spend most of the time out of combat mode and just exploring. Jeff thought Avernum 4 would require a team effort, but it's possible to play as a singleton. You can make the games as challenging as you want by choosing how to approach the games. You can obtain the mithril in 3 different places. Then you have the choice of making it into a mithril sword, a beastslayer sword, or fulfilling a quest. The Alien Blade is hard to get even with the hint book. You have to be in the right place after certain things have happened and figure out what is going on at the right time. The best that you can hope for is that most of the town is not actively hostile. At least then you can trade, train, and fulfill minor quests. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |
