I think Jeff said somewhere back in the first 3 pages that the Vahnatai wouldn't appear in A5. Of course that could always change after he gets through the debate in this thread on whether they should come back. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Delicious Vlish mentioned on an Avernum forum that he would like to play a monk similar to those in the Mad Monastary of Exile/Avernum 3. It would be nice to see an Eastern mythos game with martial arts abilities that could be upgraded during the game. Either as a straight single genre game or East vs. West like in Nethergate. All those years of watching bad kung-fu movies would be useful and we could spend time trying to figure out where characters were taken from. [I not really double posting since this is a different idea and after this many days re-editing would leave the thread buried] Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Your right it really is slow if I'm number 1 with a lower post count than last month. I thought the beta testing of Geneforge 4 would increase postage more than it did. We need better topics since even the photocaptioning thread isn't doing enough. I've made top ten 4 out of the 6 times since I joined. This is getting sad. Congratulations on making a milestone. The picture wasn't that bad. For something really scary get a letter from the IRS (Internal Revenue Service - the tax man) when you aren't waiting for a refund. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

If you are implying that in GF4 you can use the Geneforge does that mean you don't have trouble with the lighting in the rest of the game? Although using it makes the game simpler since now both sides are annoyingly inferior. The third path is then I'm a God and will decide what is right for all of you. 10. You should have found most of the brooches by now if you've talked to Erika. Her books give hints about where to find them and you can always talk to statues. Some of them have useful information and most just don't do anything. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Aydin is on an island north of the Giant Lands hidden by the blue mists. There is a pool that will let you past for a limited time. Aydin gives you how to get past an obstacle on the way to the teleporter and info on how to get there. The path to the teleporter has some secret passages and one place where you need the Orb to fly over. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

In Avernum 1 the only way to actually get the formula so you can make it is to find the abandoned hut. The researcher who lived there use to be in the Tower of Magi and then went north. There is someone hidden in the northwest corner of Fort Draco that can tell you some more. There are two ways to find her: secret door and using your boat to land beyond the wall. In Avernum 1 you get the quest in Patrick's Tower. There are clues in Fort Draco and the formula for it is in a hut in the tunnels west and south of Fort Draco (I think). In Avernum 2 the formula is in Patrick's Tower and you can find some already made (somewhere in the Eastern Gallery I think). You need it to heal the Nephils that are southeast of Mertis and a dragon north of Fort Emerald. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

The trick now that I reached the middle years is to only spend time learning things that will be important later on in life. For everything else use what you already know or delegate the learning process to someone else that can afford to waste the time. I tend to rely on my vast memory of junk that I learned or read over the years and hope to have the specific memory I need triggered by association. This causes mistakes when the link is close to another similar piece of information (like remembering the wrong author with a similar writing style). Thanks, I hadn't read it since 1979. My professor (really a teaching assistant) didn't get the joke at the end of the story about the Handicapper General using the great equalizer. for an English major he wasn't that well read. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I'm not sure if that gives you access back to another level. I remember going back to the main level in the NW corner where there are some prisoners. If you have an unexplored area on your map after you finish the tower then that's where it goes. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Then you go off and play a singleton and forget about team work. Although your analogy reminds me of the time after a long drive up the moutain to the observatory I found the concept of interchangeable parts hadn't reached the piece of equipment we were attaching to the telescope. That and spare parts when the wire between the detector and the recorder was found to have been left behind where we started the journey. As I was freezing from forgeting a sweater, I realized that astronomy wasn't what I really wanted to do with my life. I'd been cold enough times to appreciate spending my nights in a warm bed instead of a freezing cold observatory waiting for conditions to resolve so something useful could be done. I think I read about a solution in a Ray Bradbury short story. You attach a device to everyone's head with any intelligence so when they think they get assaulted with so much noise that they lose their concentration. It lowers everyone down to the level of the idiots. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

It could be worse. In Avernum 4 there are scripted monsters that are unkillable or only killable after certain conditions are met. You can pile on the damage only to see the monster heal and you have to start all over again and heal yourself while fighting. Seeing a health bar gives you an idea of how ineffective your feeble attacks are that would slay other creatures. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Nimble fingers seems to work in all the games. In Avernum 2 I got a few potions of nimble fingers as dropped loot for killing monsters. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

It depends upon whether the host knows which door has the prize. If the host knows the answer then there is a 2/3 chance that your choice is wrong and that he only reveals the losing chocie and not the winning one that you didn't pick. If the host doesn't know the answer then there is a 2/3 chance that the door opened will be wrong and the chance that you have the right door is now 1/2. On the 1/3 chance that the opened door has the prize the game ends. Let's Make a Deal used this premise in order to prolong the game since the host knew the prize position and tried to sway the person into a decision. Deal or No Deal has the host knowing the answer, but the revealing of the prize in the briefcases is random (chosen by the contestant). There the contestant gains the new information and it changes the odds that the original decision is wrong. I lived in monsoon rain areas and have had some flooded streets where the water poured over the curbs (greater than 6 inches or 15 centimeters for the rest of the world), but nothing like that. I have driven in heavy rain where the lighting was so bad I could see the street. There was one time some friends and I were watching the rain come down. One asked if that was my roommate waiting at the bus stop when a truck drove by send a wall of water 6 feet (1.8 meters) high and 10 feet (3 meters) back from the curb. As my roommate got drenched, I said "yes." He came in later and wanted to know why there was so much rain in a desert environment. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

I've played all the games with a full party. After doing Avernum 4 as a singleton in torment, I'm going to go back and try the others as singletons. It's easier the first time through to use a full party to cover sloppy playing. You can usually recover from mistakes and there are more slots to carry all that loot. I've always gone with custom characters since I haven't found a good set of pregenerated ones. The hedge wizard seems the closest to what I would do for a spellcaster.
