Yes, we need a unique item location list to go with all these damage tables.

You must complete the quest in the mines for the captian in Fort Draco first. He will give you a letter which will allow you in to Formello.

And beware of the Formellian Face Jumping Spiders.

If given enough time to prepare, and enough refried black beans for fuel, I can whistle dixie... Er, well, it's not whistling.

I can fart dixie.

Sea monsters.

Yeah. Squid like creatures. You get a couple of chances to read a brief description.

I would have liked the option to take her captive, return her to the Castle, and have her stand trial for her crimes. And then locked in a dark room some place and sealed away.

I realised who did it the moment I saw a razordisk in the mines by Fort Draco.

I also knew who did it in Exile III the moment I found a waveblade in the Filth Factory. I saw the waveblade and thought "What's that doing here on the surface? I found some of those robe thingies too in Jordan's tower, and he must have found them in the slime's caves. JINKIES!" And from that moment on, I knew who did it.

I was really hoping that my early theory on who did it would have been correct... If anybody recalls, I was saying (hoping) that the Sliths had done it.

Parry is all fine and good... But I find my self dying to often to archers or slingers or something.

I have concluded for my self, that it is not a skill worth investing in. Gymnastics does a far better job of allowing you to avoid incoming arrows.

Parry bonuses from Elite Warrior and equipment are still welcome.

Yeah. Yet another start. Blah.

So why not the full four people?

A Singleton became tedious. A duo, well, didn't hold my interest. The two nephil duo became a nephil and a slith because I couldn't resist, and then I had the idea that all of the races, the best and the brightest, should be represented.

I suspect it will be like playing Secret of Mana or something.

Unsure of party build, but I have ideas.

I still do not see how a single character will survive the Tower Colony Encounter.

If you are not opening caches in the great outdoors, how will you have enough herbs to make much needed knowledge brews? Other than cheating...

Meh.

I am pondering that a well made Duo might do it. One would focus somewhat on mage spells, enough to get what you need, a few buffs like Prismatic Shield, etc. Arcane lore, tool use, etc, etc, etc. The second would do priest spells. Nature Lore. All that stuff. Well, both of them would have some nature lore and arcane lore. Trait wise, I would go with a slightly unusual route. The first would go with Divinely Touched and Elite Warrior. The second, to conserve skill points, would go with Divinely Touched and Natural Mage. I would only need three levels of mage skill ever, to get me started with level five spells, and over time, I would have skill level boosts to be able to cast Dispel Barrier. One would use swords, the other spears. Both would use bows of course as primary weapons.

The beauty of this is, there are exactly two nephil graphics. ;)

You must have arcane lore to be able to get the higher level spells from spell books.

Jeff insisted that all of those were placeholder graphics.

I wonder what happened.

For a brief shining moment, it looked as though the game was going to be utterly brilliant... And then at the last moment, crushing disapointment.

Captain Matos, and most of those other soldiers, look like melted candles. They have no faces. They look bloody awful. All splotchy looking. And the priestess in Fort Monastary... A female using the male priest graphic.

It's little touches like these that could have been easily fixed but were not that bug me.

And the blond haired duo of humans... You know the ones... Blond haired priest and priestess, when I mentioned that the in game graphic had black hair and the portait had blond hair, the portrait was changed to poopy brown hair.

Little things like this can sour me on a game. :

Heh. Good luck with that.

I wonder though, just how much mage skill would a singleton need... Enough to cast Dispel Barrier and Unlock Doors I think, along with 15 tool use to pop locks.

I am not saying a Singleton is possible or not... But for damage spells, he would be better off advancing his priest skill levels for Divine Fire and being able to cast a few shades.

Dispel Barrier takes, what, 8 in mage skill? I don't remember off of the top of my head.

Edit.

How would a Singleton get the level of nature lore and arcane lore required to learn spells? That is a really good question... You need what, 20 in each? Plus tool use, mage skills, priest skills, physical stats?

Sounds like it would become spread thin very quickly.

You know, it strikes me as being stupid to give a character a trait that includes magery, and then not give them any mage or priest spells at all.

Really... All that magery really adds up, and just a few points in to mage skills or priest skills would pay off. Smite can easily top out at 100 damage with a little work.

I scream bloody murder when I am forced to work in a resolution smaller than 1600x1200.

I survived on an iMac for a long time at 1024x768. It was Hell I tell you... HELL.

So cramped. It was like being in prison. I would get clausterphobic attacks if i stared at the screen to long.

A human archer is a terrible idea, considering that Nephils gain bow skills.

A priest thief is useless. Completely useless. Now that Jeff has confirmed that tool use does in fact work with unlock doors, a mage makes sense.

And as we found out, humans are the very worst. Nephils are a far better race for everything, and the only thing that Sliths have going for them is the steep experience penalty, which keeps the monster level curve from biting you in your hind end.

I could be totally wrong, but I seem to recall in Exile some place that the Nephar were Nephils that were a demonic crossbreed. But this changed, I think in Avernum.

Could be wrong. A lot of things were changed from Exile to Avernum, and not all of them good. Like Sliths for example, being magical creatures with a bonus to their int score.

And on the subject of role playing... Purely from a role playing view... I have considered a party with two sliths and two nephils. Since their are of course, two of each kind of graphic.
