Beta Call for Exodus in Blades of Avernum

Name by which you'd liked to be credited: Thralni is fine
E-mail address: B.J.van.Soldt (AT) inter.nl.net
Operating system (Mac, Windows, etc.): This depends on how my new computer will respond. I'm hoping to test it on an intel Mac with system 10.4.7, but if it doesn't work, I'll do it with Mac OS 9.2.2.
Do you want to be part of the first group of testers (bearing in mind the time/energy commitment that it entails): Sure!
Do you have a save file for a party that has just finished Bahssikava: I'm sorry, no. is this really necessary? I did play the scenario, so I know what's going on.
Do you want to use the Beta Testing Center: I would think its handy, but only if you would want it. My username there is Thralni.

I would be delighted to help. My vacation just started, and my own scenario will be released, if betatesters manage to do everything wuickly, in two to three weeks, i think. I just finished the final alpha on it, so I'll have plenty of time, i think (assuming my new Intel Mac which I'm going to but today will do everything as I want it to do it).

I don't know if i will be able to participate in the second round, though, but the first one I will certianly do.

Sorry. I couldn't let that pun lying around without using it.

Anyway, yeah, the icons are different alright. I actually seem to like the Avernum icons more, as I find them to be more fitting with the title (crystal souls: a crystal, for example, instead of a vahnatai). However, using the icons as an excuse to start a Mac/PC.Linux/whatever war is a bit pathetic, don't you think? (This applies for everybody saying Mac/PC is better than PC/Mac, although we all know that mac is better :P

For some dark and sinister reason, the first thing that I thought about when reading this post is: "My underpants are on fire." Don't ask me why.

I voted for the Avernums. I will not repeat why.

Thanks very much to you all, my party already started leveling up!

yeah, i tried the giants, but founbd myself being killed all the time, so i gave up. now I just finished the secret sliths, after interuping delrin Bok. I'll finish him off later, adn then I'll also continue with gaddika, which I also started, wiped out half of the fort, but wasn't strong enough to kill gaddika himself.

So there. Thanks again.

I'm getting really sick of this. I have a party of arounf level 19, and I can't seem to do any quest, for the simple reason that I'm too weak for all the quests thst I got. I just came back from the Vahnatai lands. What quests do you recommend doing? Or at any rate, what places do you recommend going too, where I can kill monsters to level up and do the quests which I can now not do?

OOC: Now that david posted, i'll post too. I mertely wanted to know what Lisha was up too.

EDIT: I just discovered that this and FF's post don't really fit onto one another. i hope that's not a problem? otherwise I'll change it.

IC:

The rumbling of the mountain had stopped, and Filbert and Tuulentekija stared at eachother in disbelief. Together they slowly moved their heads, as to look behind them, where they came from. In the darkness, they thought to see dust, but not normal dust. A dust of glittening, very small parts, dust of ice. Filbert quickly ran back, leaving Tuulentekija alone in his misery. No!

The passage seemed to be sealed. Filbert slowly stumbled back, and met with Tuulentekija.

"The passage has been sealed. We have only one way to go, and that is up this tunnel."

Tuulentekija gasped, followed by a quick nod. He had seated himself already, but stood up now, with some help of Filbert. Together they walked up the tunnel, which wasn't very easy. The tunnel was slippery, and since it was directing the two upwards, it got harder and harder to clamp oneself to any piece of rock which wasn't covered with ice. Finally, Filbert took out a sword, and so did Tuulentekija, and with the little strength he had, pierced the ice with the sword, applying all his strength to move himself up the tunnel. The same did Filbert, though a bit more energetically.

For how long they were climbing they didn't know. It seemed to take ages. Finally, however, the sloping stopped, and the tunnel floor was flat again. They could walk safely now, and so they did. The tunnel was stiull made of that black ice, which was, still, quite slippery. Onward they walked, passing several stalagmites and stalactites, hanging down from the cealing or standing on the tunnel's floor. They walked for some time, until they came to a splitting of the tunnel.

"Left or right?" Tuulentekija asked.

"You ask that to me? I thought you were the one with the inner powers," Filbert responded.

They stared at eachother. Finally Tuulentekija said:

"We'll go right. As the tunnel we just climbed took a left turn somewhere, i presume we turned away from the center of the mountain. Going right will bring us back."

Filbert nodded and right they went. He only hoped that the center of the mountain won't bring immediate death...

-------

EDIT OOC: I added some small descriptions of the tunnel, hope its better now.

My scenario is still in beta, and i wish i could predict when it will be released. However, as none of the betatesters really seems to answer my questions/emails, it may take a while. otherwise I'll make a second beta call, or just exclude all the ones who didn't answer any of my questions.

For the rest, second betaversion to release to the betatesters is nearly finished. All I'm going to do is test it a second time, and do a very thorough search for typos. expect it to be done on saturday or sunday.

I chose "other" as most games I play at the moment are not by Microsoft. however, i would give them an A if i were only playing Flight Simulator or Age of Empires besides Avernum. Flight Simulator 2004 is in every respect amazing. I'm still trying to figure out how they made every little piece of the earth so detailed...

The present situation of my scenario:

I used all reports I have, and taken all advice into account. I corrected all reported spelling/grammatcal errors which, but also some that were not reported. I'll wait a while until I get some more reports before realeasin the current version of the scenario for beta. I'm espacially waiting for TM's report, as he said it should be almost finished.

Note that at the moment I'm mainly eager to get comments on the scenario's plot and execution. Spelling and such is welcome too, but its not my first priority.

I have been thinking if I maybe should ask fo more testers, as most testers I have now didn't send me any reply to my email, don't post at the BoATC, leaving me with no clue as of how far they have progressed with the beta.

Please, to all betatesters, post in this thread to say how far you are, when you think you will be ready, and send me at least a part of the report you hopefully already started working on. If I receive nothing, or too little to continue with, I'll ask for more testers.

I agree with Dintiradan: tell us what exactly you find so hard to understand.

Thuryl is right too: Look at other people's scripts.

My two cents: Make a town by following the quickstart guide in the editor docs (not the appendix!). It will teach you the most basic stuff. After that, continue by making, say, your own message_dialog calls, and see if it works. then you might make an "if-statment" of it. Kelandon has an extremely handy tutorial to make them. I recommend it.

Ugh. Luck just isn't with me on this one, is it.

I broke a leg.

That means that time on the computer will be OR rather limited, not enough to test, OR plentifull, which means I will have enough time to test, but I'll more likely try to finish my own scenario.

We'll see what happens, I guess.

School is FINALLY over, which means that progress on my scenario will be made during the next one or two weeks. I use the reports whicch I got until now (That's Dintiradan's, Tyran's and partly TM's, still waiting for TM's full report, though). All others that didn't send a report: I would appreciate it if you can send them, but don't be offended if I don't use them. If you send them in before I realease the second beta version, though, I will take them into account. This scenario has stayed around on my computer for too long already, and I want to finally release.
