http://www.straightdope.com/faq/officialfaq.html I think this DreamGuy is joshing. He's not particularly subtle or talented at doing so, but nevertheless. Really, though- When he goes on about "respectable sources" and then links to straightdope.com, that doesn't resemble parody at all to you? -------------------- 人 た ち を 燃 え る た め に 俺 は か れ ら に 火 を 上 げ る か ら 死 ん だ Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

quote:Given, there is no conclusive way to prove/disprove the existence of a god of any sort. Nevertheless, what is the relevance of that to the discussion? Well, no DUH that would have relevance; that's not what I'm asking. What I'm pointing at is why an unverifiable concept that cannot be reproduced or observed is in a discussion like this. Perhaps this may be a logical leap, but I would espouse that the existence of God and the existence of Evil are cocentric, insomuch as both are unverifiable, undefined, and cannot be remedied under any sort of debate. When somebody espouses an ethical system, there are ethical implications. The existence of God, for example, has the ramification of being an omnipresent and omniscient metaphor of every power structure in existence. (In 1 Corinthians 11:3, for example, this is illustrated rather bluntly...) But any sort of supposition has its implications on behalf of the supposer. (Duh.) So what a debate on good and evil is, then, is essentially a conflict of interests of various sorts. So rather than discuss what evil is, it would be more effective to discuss why we define evil as we do, what we get out of it, etc., since all else becomes a theological debate that demands axioms that this community (and rightfully so) does not seem willing to adhere to. -------------------- 人 た ち を 燃 え る た め に 俺 は か れ ら に 火 を 上 げ る か ら 死 ん だ Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Alternatively, you can have the mechanics of the scenario become its own challenge of sorts. In Canopy, a level 50 party- while still very powerful by comparison- will still have to do thinking in order to defeat its foes. Okay, they won't really be in danger of dying- but that's the whole point of bringing in a party over the recommended level. The point of combat, on the other hand, is to make the party think when entering combat. Alternate examples include Tomorrow, NTH, Areni, Roots, and many others. While they are for BoE, they're still prime examples of what I'm talking about. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

And while this may seem like a waste of skill points, sometimes it's a good thing to have a few levels in Healing Craft, as well as even a few errant skill points in something like Blessing Magic. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

spy.there- I'd wager that you are not using the most recent version. Those errors were fixed a long time ago. wz. arsenic- Wow. You have hideously poor luck. My guess is that it attempted to target character 120 whom does not exist, which was made on account of a brain fart. (The odds of getting this error in particular are 0.83%.) If you can replicate this error more than once, let me know. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

If anyone has any more suggestions for Canopy, let me know. Otherwise, I'll upload v1.0.3 to my site, send it to Spidweb and be done with it for a good, long while. ( http://tm.desperance.net/Canopy.html ) -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

SP efficiency can only be gained by the skill of the same name. Intelligence and Magery both add 1 to damage of spells done, but that's a pittance. The best way to put more kick in your spells is to buy (or find) higher levels. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Natural Mage, since it not only lets you armor yourself, but also gives you the recharge energy ability. (Okay, so +20 SP per day ain't THAT great, but...) Also, energy potions and elixirs. If a shop sells them, clear its stock of 'em. (This is less required in low-level scenarios, but...) Usually, your odds of fighting the enemy at an advantage are directly related to the SP of your magi. Also, getting Priest Spells is eventually a good idea, even if you don't plan on using them much- they become cheaper than extra mage spells levels eventually. -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I was holding off on submitting Canopy until I was sure that all of the bugs were out of it, but it seems to almost be that way already. EDIT: Forgot about some lingering complaints about the Zauberer fight. I'll hold off until the people getting this error give me more conclusive reports or I am able to replicate the error myself, although I haven't been able to thusfar.
