Just go to www.zelda.com. It has pages on all the Nintendo-released Zelda games ever made.

In "The Adventures of Link," which was the second game in the series and also on the NES, the overworld map had an overhead view, but the towns, dungeons, and random encounters were side scrolling views. It really was a pretty different game, and is fairly widely regarded as the worst in the series.

From this game, the series made the leap to SNES's "A Link to the Past," which returned to the spirit of the first game. "Link's Awakening" for Gameboy arrived after the SNES title, and incorporated some of the side-scrolling elements of the second title in its dungeons.

EDIT: It's frightening that these games came out almost twenty years ago, and that I remember how to beat them all...

This is where I sound like an adult.

What I don't understand is why going with the program is such a problem.

The other thing to take into account here is that a student's perspective doesn't always incorporate the bigger picture. I remember quite vividly just how much I didn't like high school. That didn't change the fact that I had to go, and now, in hindsight, I see that it was a good experience.

Johnny, I think you should trust that your parents are trying to do the right thing by you, and that the school is too. While there may be a couple bad apples employed there, how likely is it that the entire system is broken?

The original Legend of Zelda was released in the US for the NES in July of 1987. I was ten years old then. I remember that the advertisement for the game on television was one of the first to try incorporating a rap. It was pretty bad. Everyone was impressed at the time because the cartridge was made of a gold plastic, as opposed to the regular grey of other NES titles.

Oh man. I stopped playing that game back in 1996, and good riddance. It was a total money sink, and essentially amounted to dorkiness at its most glorified level. Anyone is welcome to pwn me in Magic, anytime.

Kel, I think your title's kind of cool. Lewis Carroll references rule, for one, and there's also the association with the first Matrix movie, which, barring memory of the other two, was pretty sassy back in the day.

What the heck does Thuryl's title mean, though? Has that ever been explained anywhere?

I agree - it's definitely a bit hit and miss. How many things are there in life that aren't though?

One factor for what I perceive to be the high percentage of "misses" in fostering the analytical mind through the liberal arts education is the fact that education is so watered down and commercialized these days. Back in the day, schools were set up to weed people out, not provide a "service." The folks graduating then had degrees that really meant something. Nowadays, folks can graduate with a B.A. in business management or somesuch, without hardly showing up to class at all.

I have to admit I'm rather addicted to the boards myself. If my job wasn't such a drag, the story would likely be different, though. As it stands currently, I almost never post on the weekends or in the evenings, when my time is my own. :)

EDIT: <sips on Diet Coke with Splenda while posting this at 9:19 a.m.> :D

EDIT 2: Holy Cow. I just tried the new Coke Zero. I don't know quite how they've done it, but it actually tastes almost exactly like my cherished Coca-Cola Classic. It looks like I'll be leaving DCw/Splenda in the lurch from now on - I've found a new love!

Those were awesome.

The originals were good (or merely okay in the case of the Adventures of Link), but not as good as Ocarina of Time, in my opinion. The series benefited greatly going to 3D, and the level of detail that went into building the world in OoT far outshone any of the previous games.

It would appear that everyone knows what they're getting into though when they enroll their kids at this school. From the website:

quote:
Any family wishing to visit Lighthouse School is invited to do so by arranging an appointment with Lighthouse School's Enrollment Team. A family is encouraged to receive authorization to visit Lighthouse School from the Director of Special Education of their city or town prior to a visit being scheduled. This is to ensure that all persons involved with the responsibility of educating each student are included in the process from start to finish. This provision is consonant with Lighthouse School's strong commitment to communication and consistency as important criteria of service quality.
If a student is at this school, there's a good reason.

I disagree. It was a quirky and cool game, but suffered for the same reasons that made it quirky. It also had fewer dungeons than OofT, and less canonical coherence, which for me makes a difference. The Fierce Deity mask was also a bit too hokey/DBZ-ish.

The goron ruled! You could get anywhere on the map much faster by rolling around than you could walking. It was also the easiest way to refill bombs, coins, arrows, etc. when you reset the time - just go out to the main field, and roll around for a while.

Well, technically red licorice isn't licorice at all - it just takes the form of a licorice stick.

I don't think you can really compare high school with uni coursework on a general level. The quality of high school courses is low compared to university-level course offerings, especially with regard to what is expected of students, and likely what they come away with. This was certainly the case for me, although my high school educational experience was quite good.

This goes back to the old argument over whether a liberal arts education is superior to specialization in a field. I am a fierce advocate for the former.

Why did your parents put you in this school to begin with? Furthermore, why would this matter if you're behaving?

Sounds a lot like the Catholic schools some of my friends back home went to - all about discipline.

Black licorice or red licorice? I'm not fond of black licorice at all, though strangely, I like fennel.

N64's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the greatest game ever made, and the sole reason I bought an N64. It continues to reign supreme over all other Zelda titles.

I think that the gen. ed. curriculum at my school (with the exception of the anthro course) greatly added to my educational development as an analytical thinker. While concentration in one topic area is great, branching out into other disciplines fosters adaptive ability, which arguably is the most important of all skills for the analytical mind.

I just realized today that Washington, DC is addicted to Diet Coke. During my lunch break, I walked to Borders to buy the new Coldplay album (listening to it now - not particularly impressed so far), then went into the nearby CVS to grab a Diet Coke with Splenda on my way back to the office. The section of the freezer where the Diet Coke products would have been was gutted - completely cleared out, though there was plenty of every other product available, including Diet Pepsi.

I am a part of the problem. Since switching to diet soda pop (SuperSize Me scared the hell out of me), I've been drinking it off and on - generally the aftertaste would sour me on it after a while. But now that Diet Coke with Splenda has been introduced, I can't get enough of it.

Anyone else have stuff you're addicted to (aside from skribbane - that's a given)? Doesn't have to be illicit or consumable in nature.

For me it would have been Todd McFarlane's rebirth of the Spiderman series... back in the day. :(
