I didn't attend the high school that had the IB program in my city, but I have a lot of friends that did participate in that program. From what I understand, it was certainly more rigorous than AP offerings at other schools, and several people I know did get burned out on it. Nevertheless, most of them thrived during it, and went on to some of the more prestigious unis afterward. Would they have attended these schools anyway? Perhaps. But I think most of them in the end were grateful for the experience and genuinely enjoyed getting to test their limits. I say be grateful that you have the opportunity, buckle down, and take advantage of it. I sure wish I had had the same chance. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

What about a tured sagot? I'm very happy someone finally solved that physics problem. Last night, I think I may actually have slept easier on account of it. Of course, it may have just been the bourbon nightcap. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Not knowing about the historical size of prizes on the show, but knowing that I held $50k in my hand, I would take the other envelope. Why? Because this prize is over and above what I've budgetted to live my life on (a.k.a. my earnings and regular investments). Given that it's completely superfluous, I may as well go for as much as possible, and not worry if I lose half of what I've got. After all, it would still be $25,000 more than I had two miutes before, at essentially no cost to me in time or effort. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

It may well be an anti-frolicking conspiracy. Consider that, essentially, no one has been allowed to carry that title. Oh sure, in theory Alo got there. But more often than not, his title was conveniently covered by Blademaster... Well, I will frolic, by Jove! Even if it takes me another three years to get there. Spidweb shall surely feature frolicking, I swear. :) [ Friday, June 24, 2005 05:27: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

The Batman live action series from the 60's already did that, Drakey. I fear Batman may have ZOMPH!ed onomatopoeiae several blows from which it may never recover. [ Wednesday, June 22, 2005 11:19: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Women are over-represented. The current female mod population of General is 25% (aka saunders). The male-female ratio of the general population here is about 9-to-1. EDIT: I will vouch for Dolphin though with regard to her helpfulness in the G3 forum. However, that's all the more reason to make her a mod there as opposed to General. There is a vast difference between dry cleaners, actually - I've gone to about five different dry cleaners in the Arlington area before I found one I like. It has everything to do with attention to detail, I think. Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |

Hey, I'm running, but I think everyone is pretty aware of my liberal bias and extreme distaste for conservative, especially religiously conservative world views. My candidacy goose is cooked! That being said, I fully support Thuryl's candidacy for moderator, and even putting the election aside, I think it would be a good idea to make him one. I have never observed him to come into conflict with anyone on these boards in any sense other than a purely academic one; when he debates, he's consistently polite, never resorting to put-downs or CAPSLOCKING in trying to get his point across. In many threads, he's demonstrated himself to be a voice of moderation, often coming up with a quick quip that diffuses a situation, at least as much as any argument can be diffused. He's been with the community for a long time, so he knows all the personalities involved. Furthermore, he's omnipresent - you can find posts from him at any time during the day, and as far as I know, he doesn't sleep - so he would certainly be able to monitor the goings-on. Moderation, Integrity, Omnipresence - Vote for Thuryl! EDIT: Of course, we could always elect Dolphin as Moderatrix... I love my iPod. After pining for one for two years (I promised myself I wouldn't purchase one until I was out of credit card debt), my fiancee bought me one for Christmas. I've faithfully carried it with me on my commute to work daily ever since. :) My only complaint is that the battery life doesn't seem to be the twelve hours advertised. Still, it's wonderful, especially for long road trips. Currently, The Postal Service is getting a fair amount of playing time on mine, along with other old faves like Radiohead (O.K. Computer), G. Love (Philadelphonic), and Coldplay albums other than the new one. [ Tuesday, June 21, 2005 09:49: Message edited by: Drew ] Posts: 2242 | Registered: Saturday, April 10 2004 07:00 |
