Hm... well, I guess it works. Not a very striking resemblance, though...

Backpacking pwns. :D

That's never good... I've had bad experiences with that. Imagine having your guide evac-ed because he fell down a mountain, the same day you had someone evac-ed for blisters the diameter of a tennis ball.

Actually, what's worse is having to hike with someone who's injured... had to do about twenty miles with someone really annoying, right after she rolled her ankle. And we'd been making such nice time that day, too...

We have a program like that at WashU... but it's a tiny program. That said, I took the trip my freshman year, and I helped lead it this past August. But still, to have that as mandatory...

Spell Poll in Avernum 4

Ahem... RETRIBUTION!!!!!!!!!

But anyway, Daze might've been my second favorite, and Arcane Shield was downright overpowered.

All the mage summons were disappointing, and the shade-summoners were overpowered (yet overcosted). Haste was a disappointment (every other status has ways to achieve group applications), as was Control Foe. The lack of a plural is a major factor.

None of the priest spells were really that bad (okay, Control Foe), though Return Life was basically useless with the new death system. I'm really surprised that so many people disliked the shades...

Archery in Avernum 4

I always found that archery never quite measured up to a well-struck halberd blow, damage-wise. Increasing archery skills to that level would've required obsessive-compulsive skill monitoring, relative to my gaming style. And Parry seems to foil archery on occasion as well... which I have a hard time visualizing, much like Riposte.

Like some of the moral choices in Avernum weren't debatable enough... I think I'd rather play "Kill Self, Win Prize" than play a game from the Empire's perspective.

(It would be an impressive, yet completely useless exercise in writing to remake A1-4 from an Empire perspective)

That said, I'm thinking of reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere next.

I'm guessing that this was a typo, so let me clarify what I think he said.

You've probably got an item that raises your Blademaster and/or Parry to that level, and you have to meet the minimum level without item bonuses. Remove those items, and gauge how far you have to go still.

Now, I think I know what you're talking about, and I'm not sure if it's a Khoth item. But head for the SW corner of the cave, and look for a pool of water. Drink from it, then run straight to the SE corner of the map, and headbang until you find a secret passage that leads to a bunch of skulls on poles. Walk through there, and you're out.

The body count is rising, folks... all the celebrities with personalities are dying. Anybody else feel like we're losing role models (however flawed they may be) at an unacceptable rate, only to have them replaced by empty, soulless Hollywood types?

Imagine fourty years or so down the road, when we'll be saying stuff like "Wow, Paris Hilton finally died."
