You actually pronounce your name in its entirety, Slp006? I don't know why this surprises me, since I don't bother to pronounce mine at all, but... You're a collection of random numbers and letters! I'm sure that not random, but still. You could pass for a license plate! —Alorael, who now demands more evil accents. Will anyone contest Zeviz' position as EVOL dictator? You can't get past the gigantic magical barrier. The cave is just a taste of things to come in Avernum 2. —Alorael, who can also say with some authority that abusing bugs and suchlike to get past the barrier, which can be done, is a bad idea. You end up stuck in a wall and have to reload. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I already explained. In Avit, there is a room with three bowls, basins, or other vessels. You need to touch them in order either from lightest color to darkest or darkest to lightest. One of the vahnatai in Avit tells you this, but you somehow missed it. Go back and try again, complete the Ritual of Welcoming, and you'll be able to speak and understand the vahnatai language. —Alorael, who will point out that Avit is a bit confusing with all the bridges. Using the automap helps a lot. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Don't make this into an image war. Please. The ferrets will win. Cute, fuzzy, and deadly beats silent and deadly every time in the image department. —Alorael, who can only console himself with the fact that the lack of pictures means nobody sees the snipers before its too late to snap a picture. I imported my rifle from a Russian weapons runner, actually. Russia is much closer. But he claimed to have gotten it from a Romanian, who stole it from a kingpin in Prague, who "acquired" it from a student at the University of Salamanca, who apparently purchased it at some tourist trap in Istanbul, who claimed that all his goods were manufactured in Buenos Aires, although they bore suspicious kanji characters. So you're almost right. I assure you that my secret weapon is real. I even have proof of it! —Alorael, who of course can't show you the proof. Too secret. Going back a little bit, I think there was someone banished for this election. Sure, it was only three months, but that's still a solid banishment. Remarkably appropriate for the company that produces Exile, no? Zeviz, you have just brought EVOL to a new level. You also have barely more accent than a Russian I know who came to America forty years ago or so. He, however, is unlikely to be a serious third-party candidate when the SEP and EVOL face off in two thousand mumble. Drakey doesn't sound like he's seven... ADoS, your voice reminds me of someone, but I can't remember who. I also didn't elect you king, and if I did I would replace you with Zeviz. —Alorael, who would say that a better way to recognize an American accent if you're American is to listen to the effect it has on American pronunciation in other languages. If native speakers of another language tend to have heavy accents when speaking English, you'll probably have an equally heavy accent while speaking that language, and you can really tell in comparison. I'm partial to Life, Cheerios, and Quaker Oatmeal Squares. The first is probably my favorite, the second my most common cereal, and the third the closest I've ever experienced to eating (very tasty) lead weights. I eat my cereal dry, too. I've never liked milk very much and cereal is nice with all its crunch intact. (Again, those Oatmeal Squares are impressive, though far inferior to Grape Nuts, which are neither grapes nor nuts but which closely resemble rocks.) Maybe I'll try some of that yogurt with my cereal instead of milk, though. —Alorael, who eats cereal for breakfast, frequently has some as part of his lunch, and who cheerfully consumes more than he probably should after dinner. His cereal expenses and caloric intake are probably frightening. In fact, he could reasonably classify cereal as a second addiction. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

A nitpick: Avernum hasn't proved that it can defeat the Empire. It has only proved that the Empire can't defeat it. A defensive war in singularly inhospitable territory is very different from attacking what amounts to the entire known world. Even the assassination is iffy. Hawthorne died at least in part because he was taken by surprise. Garzahd's death wasn't exactly subtle assassination. While adventurers are surprisingly good at slaughtering their way through an entire town/city/fortress/continent/world, Garzahd really should have made a surreptitious escape and left one of his body doubles. Even if all the sliths in Avernum are dead, there's still the main slith civilization. There are plenty of vahnatai left. There's sure to be more strange things lurking in the stygian depths of Avernum. And there are three continents of the Empire that haven't been touched, although they should have been fairly well demagicked and sanitized by years of occupation. —Alorael, who would also bet on vahnatai taking center stage again and who also would rather be wrong. TM has been banned since July 16th. He was banned for a week before that for profanity and insults after being warned to cease and desist. He didn't, and he still didn't after his ban ended. He will be welcome back in September this time. —Alorael, who doesn't even recognize either of those two (?) games. He must be getting old. Or older. Malnutrition can also cause changes in hair color. Gray hair is the most common result, but protein deficiency (if I'm remembering right) can make hair become pale orange. —Alorael, who does not advise malnutrition for hair color. No matter how carcinogenic they are, the dyes are better for you. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

It's all in the Necronomicon Lite. That's for when you want your mind beaten but not horsewhipped, so to speak. —Alorael, who is sure that a certain company, which has already been mentioned several times under several names, can find the NL, as it is affectionately termed, for you at a most reasonable price. If you're God, you have absolutely no incentive to listen to the whiners. Drop some avian flu on them if they're really irking you. One thing's for certain. The perks are top-notch and you can't have better job security. —Alorael, who still wouldn't want to be God. He doesn't have the patience to create or even maintain anything properly. He'd end up with half-baked laws of physics and then scrap the whole thing and start again. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Poseidon probably wants you to go find some people who can't recognize oars. It's a thankless job, especially in an age where mass media make it extraodinarily difficult to find such people even five hundred miles away from any significant body of water. Loki, on the other hand, is probably just messing with you. He does that. You could try to get help from another god, but at this point you really seem to have enough divine problems. Maybe you need to speak to a few devout atheists. —Alorael, who doesn't know what to do about Posideon, though. Maybe he's just upset because his vowels scrambled. Maybe a scarifice would work better for that. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Also remember that the gods are a contrary bunch. Your sacrifice may just have reminded Poseidon tha you exist and that he doesn't like you. I suggest sacrificing to other gods too, just in case, and asking them to get in Poseidon's way. —Alorael, who is positive that all of the rules of Leviticus were set out for the Jews way back when, and theologians have since decided than animal sacrifices are unnecessary anyway. Jesus' birth has absolutely no religious significance to the Jews, Chasidic and otherwise, for reasons that should be obvious even if you disagree. It does help. While there's no way to figure out how much (other than empirically) in A1 or A2, in A3 a specific number is named. I believe it's 5% resistance to physical damage. —Alorael, who in any case recalls it being less than an Armor Ring's protection and generally less useful than other rings.
