Anyway, I declare this thread is sufficiently non-Muslim to be locked by now.

On that ominous note,

What do these have in common?

Is it... missed that memo. Just generally, or in order to evade a ban?

I still have lots, and I know others who do quite openly too.

An ignoble end for such greatness, how the mighty hath fallen, etc. and other such condolences reeking of schadenfreude...

Unfortunately(?), unlike Mountain of Shadows, I haven't got a single page saved, and therefore the least incomplete copy of the topic will be half a year old now and ever.

That aside, it's always sad to see a bit of history disappear (especially when it was already history before disappearing, as it rarely is). At least the oldest surviving topic in General (by start date) is now Cavanoskus' "For those who are interested", which has a slight bit of history attached as well.

Like Mountain of Shadows, the topic is no longer writable. Posts can neither be added, nor edited, nor deleted. It might not even be lockable.

Barring a straight deletion or a move to the mod board, TM may have done the impossible and publish the Kama Sutra indelibly on the General forum. o_O

Also, it's important to look out for opportunities. Single-mindedness might eventually get your mining level to 60, but if you look around, pick up what's lying on the ground, and watch what people are buying, you can make a lot of gold in a reasonable time. It's also less boring than grinding by far!

For example:

I bag all talismans (and chef's hats) I find. While practically worthless, they sell for however much the player who wants one considers "loose change" - between 10 gp and 500 gp. I sold my green cape for 1000 gp - it cost 30 gp to make. Someone sold a bulk of 200 amulets of magic to a shop, which cost 270 gp each to buy up. I got 150 of them, and am now selling them for prices ranging at 600-1800 gp. ;)

I'd guess, oh, 3/28/1997. That's 28/3/1997 for you Europeans.

—Alorael, who has no idea what 060704 is. Maybe 6:07:04 in the morning?

I'd use 1997/03/28 (or 1997-03-28). This way you crazy Americans get to have the month first, the insanely logical Europeans get them ordered by size (year month day, as good as day month year), and there's no confusion because nobody would ever use year/day/month. :P

Riibu: That'll be so awesome! The only drawback is that a long conga chain would depend on every link remaining online and following - otherwise the chain splits up. But it'd be nice to see if we can set a record. :D

--

Just met a scammer. Wanted to offer me "1 mill" for making carrier runs from the lumber yard to a bank and back. I tagged along out of interest, then bolted when we reached Wilderness Level [his level - my level - 1]. Probably wanted the nice gold-trimmed adamant helm.

I should have left all my stuff in the bank anyway - makes running easier. I wonder what he'd have said then. "No longer interested." :P

I use Firefox and Thunderbird. I do have Mozilla installed, and technically it's as close to Firefox as, say, Debian and Red Hat (if that analogy works), but I can't get used to it.

However, Opera 9 is at least as good as Firefox - handles Java and PDF more quickly too (though that might just be due to my Firefox being loaded with performance-gobbling extensions). I use it a bit less often than Firefox, but whenever the former has problems displaying a page.

--

Just checked Wikipedia: Netscape was by Mosaic Communications, which was effectively killed by Microsoft (and IE), ending in 1998 with the source of Netscape 4.0 being opened and reworked as Mozilla.

I've seen regular essence sell for about 30 gp (on free worlds). What advantages does pure essence have - are there runes that require it?

--

And I just realized that while grinding is a way to kill time, the only time RS is really enjoyable is when Riibu is also online. :P

Is Facebook even available internationally? I remember I tried to register once and it apparently required my high school to be listed (which it wasn't). Or something prevented me from registering, anyway.

I registered at MySpace a few months ago, but that's as far as I got before I had to close the site to avoid vomiting. It's... interesting. View with IE for the full experience (or MSNE for hard-core masochists).

Social networking sites are good for making lots and lots of money. I'd dream of owning a successful one, but I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole, myself.

Just because I'm too lazy to read the faqs, what is pure essence and how do you obtain/produce/refine it?

As for idiocy, it just went to a new level. As Riibu knows, I usually gather experience and money by producing and selling steel weapons (actually, it was iron when we last met, but that's what you get from grinding).

Anyway, selling to a shop is easy, but you can get about double that price by selling to other players. This is because the shop will sell at three times the price it buys at, so when I sell at twice what I'd get at a shop, the buyer still gets a better deal than at the shop.

Unfortunately, selling to players involves standing around in places where a lot of people come through and repeatedly shouting "selling steel chainmail, 600 gp!". For a long time.

Along comes someone who asks: "What does it do?"

What does it do? It's chainmail... what does a sword do?

There are several things that could be done better (non-essential), and I see a few errors that might cause it... but I guess it'd be best if I could take a look at the form as well. Just email it (or tell me where you put it on the webspace ;) ).

Curse you all!

Now I've started playing again. Already mined about half a ton (literally) of coal, and started the endless rune essence mining again.

This will keep me busy for at least a week or more.

Well anyway, what are all your screen names? Our playing times probably don't overlap (I haven't seen Riibu yet :( ) but whenever they do, it'd be nice to know it.
