Whales and fish don't have much of a neck to speak of, and while they can surface (and possibly jump), I can't think of a movement they are capable of that could be called "raising up himself".

And although the Bible is hardly scientific evidence, we were already talking about mythology.

Actually, because I first made the statistics on April 17, 2005. This is because it was a weekend and I had lots of time to kill.

Plus, I like the number 17. It's a prime.

20 what? 20 posts? Place 20?

Anyway, I'll have you know I worked hard to achieve this. ;)

Also, since it's getting close to one and a half years since this started, I'm wondering if the monthly topics should be stopped here. The whole thing runs on Drupal now, so technically there is a blog attached, which could contain the monthly summary. This is getting... I don't know, a bit old? Like this joke that's been running for ever and ever. :(

In the day and hour of the moon with sun in scorpio prepare thou a waxen tablet and enscribe thereon the seals of Cthulhu and Dagon; suffumigate with the incense of Zkauba and set aside.

On Hallowmas eve thou must travel to some lonely place where high ground overlooks the ocean. Take up the tablet in thy right hand and make of the sign of Kish with thy left. Recite the incantation thrice and when the final word of the third utterance dieth in the air cast thou the tablet into the waves saying:

'In His House at R'lyeh Dead Cthulhu waits dreaming, yet He shall rise and His kingdom shall cover the Earth.'

And He shall come unto you in sleep and show His sign with which ye shall unlock the secrets of the UBB forum.
Anyway, the search function can't return deleted topics, and it sometimes has some trouble finding anything at all. Make sure the member number is correct. If all else fails, try Google and search for some text the topic contained - most of this forum is regularly crawled.

Ladies and gents, it is the seventeenth of the month, and you know what that brings! Annoying topics with huge first posts, that start with the kind of drivel you'd only expect on a blog (incidentally, I finished Gaiman's and Pratchett's Good Omens just now, and also I like broccoli and---), continue on with dry numbers and witty comments about hungry turtles and sanity-collecting doors, before finally, after you are just about ready to give up and read another topic, they move on to the top ten list, where your name may be immortalized if you found enough (in-)opportunities to get a post in this last month.

Sorry. It's 2 AM, okay?

I. Joining Rate

Numbers have been declining since April. 86 new guys, of which 38 have posted.

April 2005: 151/87
May 2005: 78/43
June 2005: 147/91
July 2005: 153/88
August 2005: 108/62
September 2005: 91/52
October 2005: 81/43
November 2005: 83/41
December 2005: 85/52
January 2006: 136/86
February 2006: 100/59
March 2006: 113/63
April 2006: 126/62
May 2006: 94/48
June 2006: 98/51
July 2006: 75/39
August 2007: 86/38

II. Activity

178 existing members have posted, who add up with 38 active newbies to 216.

Here, the numbers have been declining since March; the longest constant decline there's ever been. Also a new low record - breaking the one set by last month.

Monthly Overview:
April 2005: 360 (273)
May 2005: 262 (219)
June 2005: 325 (232)
July 2005: 352 (264)
August 2005: 293 (231)
September 2005: 256 (204)
October 2005: 229 (186)
November 2005: 234 (193)
December 2005: 239 (187)
January 2006: 333 (247)
February 2006: 268 (209)
March 2006: 324 (263)
April 2006: 318 (256)
May 2006: 268 (220)
June 2006: 257 (206)
July 2006: 225 (186)
August 2006: 216 (178)

III. Postage

I called last month "slow" because it had just over 4000 monthly posts. This number has dropped to 3247 this time. 106 posts per day and 15 posts per member, coming (with a period of just over 30 days since the last update) to 0.49 per member per day. Which is another low record. Basically, the board is facing an ice age.

On the plus side, this puts off the inevitable day of the next PPP, so that's all right.

Monthly Overview:
April 2005: 7576 | 186 | 21 | 0.47
May 2005: 4723 | 169 | 18 | 0.52
June 2005: 7267 | 251 | 22.4 | 0.77
July 2005: 8691 | 271.6 | 24.7 | 0.77
August 2005: 5917 | 190.9 | 20.1 | 0.65
September 2005: 5412 | 174.6 | 21.1 | 0.68
October 2005: 4477 | 149.3 | 19.5 | 0.65
November 2005: 4389 | 141.6 | 18.8 | 0.61
December 2005: 3958 | 131.9 | 16.6 | 0.55
January 2006: 6580 | 204.3 | 19.8 | 0.61
February 2006: 4555 | 153.24 | 17 | 0.57
March 2006: 7355 | 272.56 | 22.7 | 0.84
April 2006: 6802 | 221.07 | 21.39 | 0.70
May 2006: 6483 | 215.31 | 24.19 | 0.80
June 2006: 4969 | 155.19 | 19.33 | 0.60
July 2006: 4134 | 133.7 | 18.37 | 0.59
August 2006: 3247 | 106.0 | 15.0 | | 0.49

IV. Top Ten

Why yes, I actually do put these at the end to make sure you at least scroll over the other stuff in this post. ;)

I suppose so, since "scenario design" doesn't usually approach, and the contest is, in fact, approaching. Far too fast, actually.

Philosophy has not yet been classified as a narcotic substance - although it possibly should be. I always fall asleep when reading a long rant. :P

Edit: And he didn't say anything of driving. Not that an intoxicated pedestrian is any less risky for traffic.

What? It's the only one I could think of.

Er... they don't. Although I can see it would be very useful to have one, yes. Can't imagine how I lived without a roosterbroom so far. :)

I neither locked nor re-opened this thread, and I don't know the reason for either of those decisions. It might become flamebait if Ben or RealityCorp bite. It also sounds a bit arbitrary, unlike the last discussions on this. I'll wait and see.
