My own attempts are, sadly, not available to the public eye. Make that fortunately.

I really like Robert Frost. And R.E. Howard (did I get those initials right?) writes in a strangely rolling rhythm that is absolutely fantastic.
quote:

The Road not taken (Robert Frost)

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

quote:

The Song of the Mad Minstrel (R.E. Howard)

I am the thorn in the foot, I am the blur in the sight;
I am the worm at the root, I am the thief in the night.
I am the rat in the wall, the leper that leers at the gate;
I am the ghost in the hall, herald of horror and hate.

I am the rust on the corn, I am the smut on the wheat,
Laughing man's labor to scorn, weaving a web for his feet.
I am canker and mildew and blight, danger and death and decay;
The rot of the rain by night, the blast of the sun by day.

I warp and wither with drouth, I work in the swamp's foul yeast;
I bring the black plague from the south and the leprosy in from the east.
I rend from the hemlock boughs wine steeped in the petals of dooms;
Where the fat black serpents drowse I gather the Upas blooms.

I have plumbed the northern ice for a spell like Frozen lead;
In lost grey fields of rice, I have learned from Mongol dead.
Where a bleak black mountainstands I have looted grisly caves;
I have digged in the desert sands to plunder terrible graves.

Never the sun goes forth, never the moon glows red,
But out of the south or the north, I come with the slavering dead.
I come with hideous spells, black chants and ghastly tunes;
I have looted the hideen hells amd plundered the lost black moons.

There was never a king or priest to cheer me by word or look,
There was never a man or beast in the blood-black ways I took.
There were crimson gulfs unplumbed, there were black wings over a sea,
There were pits where mad things drummed, and foaming blasphemy.

There were vast ungodly tombs where slimy monsters dreamed;
There were clouds like blood-drenched plumes where unborn demons screamed.
There were ages dead to Time, and lands lost out of Space;
There were adders in the slime, and a dim unholy Face.

Oh, the heart in my breast turned stone, and the brain froze in my skull--
But I won through, I alone, and poured my chalice full
Of horrors and dooms and spells, black buds and bitter roots--
From the hells beneath the hells, I bring you my deathly fruits.

Oh, and there's this poem by one Artimidor Federkiel which I've helped him translate from German.
quote:

For where the Euwen proudly stand,
There I shall rest as well
Though all the years should pass like nought
Must Soul upon that dwell?

Where darkness reigns grow Euwen high
Murk withers not this tree
Likewise shall, when Death is nigh,
Embrace it fearlessly.

If Joy or Fortune, Luck or Bliss
Shall mark the Path I see,
Or Mourning, Doubt, and Loneliness
It matters not to me.

Only where the Euwen spring
At Home am I, my song I sing
Lightly saying just 'Mé nón'
In sweet and cloudsoft Darkengrove
The Ineffable Thaelon.

(The Euwen is a fictional tree that grows to a very tall size and is said to instill melancholy and inspiration in those that go through a forest of them. The Thaelon is such a forest).

Mh. Just noticed, these three are pretty widely apart in theme and style... My tastes vary. :)

I had a disastrous accident with that piece: My media player is set to repeat mode. When I opened this and got back to reading while it played, I found a little later that this thing was getting unbelievably long. I then realized I had listened to this in an endless loop for half an hour - if I'd been doing that any longer, I could've kissed goodbye to my sanity. :eek:

Tone down the smileys a little... I've found it makes people take you seriously.

And I can see where this is headed. We've had it in Blades of Exile with graphics - I can list probably 20 graphics archives, many of which overlapped in their content, but no single one that contained all.
For BoA, Brett was foresightful enough to establish a well-made database for these graphics, which spares us having to hunt through a dozen archives to find what we need. Decentralization is fine, but I'd rather find everything on a single site. ;)

How many do you still have, TGM? I think I must have accumulated about 5, left over from one time or another I tried to be anonymous, or I lost my password, etc. :P

If I decide I *really really* don't like someone, well...

Edit: Hey, cool! I got another 3, and it went up from 3.68 to 3.73!

We could rename the GC board so it includes Oceanbound as well. On that note, it might also be appropriate to add 'The New Misc' to its name, as things stand. :P

I think in that respect the karma is actually a good thing: It allows people to relieve their feelings - usually the negative ones - in voting (Hah, take *that*, you *) and thus prevent such feelings from having to leak over into flame posts. I'm pretty sure if we didn't have this way of saying what we think of each other, the boards would soon be cluttered with rants. :P

Edit: Imban, but that's the whole *fun* in multiple accounts...

My voting is not regular: I don't immediately rate anyone I see. The only two times when I bother to rate someone is when I read their post and think, either "*******", or "<3".

That's why I've never given anyone anything but 1 or 5. :rolleyes:

And I've had to earn my karma slowly. The first 3-4 votes I got were pretty unanimous on giving me one star.

The thing is, when you drink salt water of a certain concentration, the effect of the salt outweighs the effect of the water. Ie, you are dehydrated even more.

But it's a nifty idea: Use entropy to move the water from one impurification - dirt - to another, non-toxic one, ie food...

Mh. If the new game is Galactic Core II, and he ports it for PC, please shoot me.

Luckily, I've been spared the so disreputable game so far by its unavailability for Windows. From what I have heard about it, the existance of GC is probably a significant disadvantage of Macs vs. PCs.

The room was a bare concrete cell, with one weak light and no
exit. That was bad enough, but the creature in the middle was far
worse. It was very similar to the shuggoths we'd seen before (not
the ones in girl-shape), but oiler and larger, and festooned with
long ropy tentacles of various lengths and thicknesses, each
terminating in a knobby growth that reminded me in a vague way
of--

"EEEEEEWW GROOOOOOOOOOSSS!!!" Shrieked Aika and Kyo almost in
unison, and even Sailor H was blushing in shock. Itami was
expressionless, but looked a little ill. Mai was pale and grim.
Reika's voice chanting all the while, however, was calm and even.
She obviously knew what this was.

...

I can't describe any of what happened next, not without busting
laws in several countries. You probably have a good idea. Think
of the naughtiest picture with tentacles you ever pulled off the
Internet and multiply it by a nice round thousand. If you don't
have any idea of what I'm talking about, never mind.
It was horrible. It was the worst thing I've ever seen happen to
another human being. And I still couldn't help wishing that I'd
had a video camera.

Mh. I think this would be fun for Arctic to read... :P

Alorael has an unfair advantage. I'm pretty sure that speech wouldn't fit into the actual signature space in its entirety.

I like that Becket thing actually. It manages to be rhythmic and meaningful while utterly senseless. I once practised improvising things like that, but it's dreadfully difficult.

Sorry, I'd switch back to my original siggie, but I saved it locally and can't access it right now. :P
