Under normal circumstances, no. This, however, is meant to be a joke, exaggerating and ridiculing the characteristics of a dumb signature on purpose. Also, turn of the cAPS-lOCK. It makes you look like an iDIOT. ;) -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! Nothing, because it seems almost too pathetic to arouse his attention. Now if you took it *out* of the signature, and put it at the end of your post, where the Real Alorael Signature(tm) goes, mmmh. Also, you need the — dash. A - won't do it. :P -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! Someone mentioned Terry Jones as an originator of the idea you posted at the start of this thread. You then seemed to connect Terry Jones with the quote "Give us a nut, give us a nut, give us a bloody PISTACHIO!", and I just pointed out the only time I'd seen the quote was from Douglas Adams' Starship Titanic. ;) Not connected to your scenario at all, though I think a Talking Parrot would be an idea I should try some time in BoA... :D -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. I thought that nut quote was from Douglas Adams, in The Starship Titanic... but maybe he just stole it from Terry Jones? -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. The problem is that there's usually too much I want to say in my signature. I always wanted to have some philosophical quote (I like to sound profound), some sort of Bushism (funniness brings some credit as well), and a self-referential quote.... Then there's this nice cynical song text by Rheinard Mey, the nicely surreal Coleridge poems 'The Ancient Mariner' and 'Khubla Khan'... Then all those obligatory links to Polaris, Santharia, and all those boards, then my website... Then the links to annoying sites, like the Zombie joke... It gets to be too long after a while. That's why I took most of it out. :) [ Monday, July 19, 2004 22:58: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! A sequel to Exile 1??! Does he mean a remake of E2? Or something in between the two? Or is it Exile 4, which would be a sequel to Exile 3, and thus indirectly a sequel to E1 as well? Imban, when I said 'plot', I actually meant 'background information' (the first cannot be good without the second). And when I meant 'background information', I mentally included 'Geography'. quote:That is actually why I'd like Avernum 4. I guess I'm a die-hard optimist concerning Jeff's views on plot and backstory... I've been here only just over a year, so I haven't had much opportunity to be disappointed. On the unlikely chance that Jeff reads this (and the chance it makes more of a difference than the dozens of times I'm sure people have said this): ______________________ Here's a little reasoning which I hope isn't too wide of the mark (never having had experience with game designing myself): - 8-year-olds who have no interest in plot quality or background will probably prefer their games with flashy graphics and realistic special effects. - A game should (ideally, of course) have a balance between graphic quality and plot, which add up to make it a fun experience. Nevertheless, to an extent one of the factors can make up for lack of the other. - Of the two factors, graphics take a lot more resources than the relatively small amount of time, thought and creativity that needs to go into plot development to make an interesting game. - Real-time, 3d, high quality graphics are too expensive in production to pay off for a small company. The production of games with such graphics is pretty much reserved to large companies. - Conversely, Spiderweb has the advantage of compactness. Where a hundred of people may have to coordinate their progress in developing a game, such exchange is more efficient in a small company. Plot ideas, story and such will be easier to coordinate and plan. --> Following this, why shouldn't Spiderweb concentrate on its strengths? And that's all of my two cents. :) -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! Outrunning the feds on Sol with my Thunderhead (named, oh so appropriately 'Death Defyer' :P ), after refusing the Vell-os was something... But I have to admit that after stumbling into the Bureau storyline three times in a row, I peeked into the walkthrough to see where I went wrong. Turns out this little cargo run to Sol is the culprit... what a surprise. :D [ Friday, July 16, 2004 23:52: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. Signatures are good if you want to say something really witty, but I've noticed that the best joke goes bad if it gets old, and there's no better way to let a joke grow old than set it to automatically display any time you virtually decide to open your mouth on this board. Poems are a different story. And then there are the links of course. No signature is complete without the link to some weird old site. :D [ Monday, July 19, 2004 23:01: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! Sit tight as the famous thread goes into its 3rd year, with not even 2 full pages. :P I *loved* EV Nova (which is the only one I played of all of them). Of all games I've seen which end with the player ending up as powerful as the universe, sort of, this is the only one that cannot be classed as plotless stuff for 8-year-old juveniles with an ego complex. I think it manages to achieve this by putting the god-power *outside* of the game, and into the background story. Where in the actual action do you possess any uber power? You can't use all those weird mental powers or 'weaves' in a battle, right (in as far as I played the game; I've only finished the Polaris plot so far and haven't got far with the Rebel one yet)? The only time they're mentioned is in the text. Seriously, this game and Asimov were the two things that made me stop hating Sci-fi. And that's something. ;) Edit: 42nd Post! Go Douglas Adams!
