Yes but even the most geekiest of lifeless nerds among us (read: me :P ) wouldn't do that kind of thing. Would they?

In a world where the success rate for boards seems to be far below 10%, and where there are so many thriving online societies, you sometimes wonder where all the failed attempts end up. In fact, they litter the whole web - we just almost never get to see them. Social Darwinism, lottery full of winners anyone?

Assuming your thread is still on the first page when you check back after five minutes. :P

Seriously, that sounds like a board I'd never want to join. On the positive side, such a board tends back toward a healthy equilibrium I guess... if people are disoriented, they leave again. The board calms back down to a more stable state, and there we are. :)
On the other hand, a board with too *few* members... will tend away from the equilibrium and die again.

We do have an average of significantly over 200 posts a day currently, unless I miscalculated (it's impossible to count it long-term, as the posts get pruned).

Even taking into account multiple accounts, lurkers, etc., these boards are, in fact, huge boards. Not far smaller than any board I've been to, and certainly bigger than anything a private board entrepreneur (read: 15-year-old with ego-complex) could hope to achieve.

You can't compare them. The Lyceum is almost totally concerned with Blades of Exile and Blades of Avernum, while the Spiderweb forum has a gigantic sector of off-topic threads (refer to 'What kind of music are you listening to', 'Is TNR or T%K the better policy concerning stray animals?', etc.).

I'm only marginally concerned with Blades, so of course I prefer a more general, varied community, that talks about more than scenarios. A veteran designer might prefer the Lyceum.

However, one fact stands: If you post something only here, more people will know it than if you post it only at the Lyceum.

So how hard would it be for Jeff to include that call in Avernumscript as well? The game itself is based on C, isn't it?

So when you delete a torch with a special, you can also make its light radius go away?

void set_up_lights()

(I actually copied that from the Blades of Avernum Editor source code)

So what happens when you use it in a script? It isn't mentioned in the documentation, so does the scripting engine recognize it if you include that command in a town script?

I think it's like in early roleplay posts by Zephyr. You desperately need a sword to defeat the dragon? No problem, there it is, directly in front of you.

You desperately need another woman to marry the guy to so the story makes sense? No problem, there she is.

There's a reason why power-gaming in roleplays is also called 'god-playing', you know...

*sniff*

Do I smell a teenage kid who has been unfairly restrained from living out his daydreams of power and responsibility, and has therefore chosen to found an internet forum, where he can at last be King, and rule over his underlings and his chosen Governors?

I guess because he thinks his scenario isn't bad enough yet simply without a plot; it needs some senseless impossibly tough battles as well.

My budgie Tilly, shortly before his untimely passing at the age of 11 years. :(

Edit: And yes, I had to hold him in my hand at that point; he couldn't stand anymore.

1.) There isn't. The quickest method is to use the character editor to set the day, or to repeatedly rest in some room (for example in Fort Emergence).

2.) I don't think so. The only way to avoid it is to not take her boon. I did that - it's one hell of a tough battle, but eventually you'll get there. I think she only has energy for 4-5 teleports or so, then you can walk up to the dais and activate the mechanism (assuming you're still in one piece after all that).

3.) That's why I didn't like A3 as much either... I want to have time for exploring. I couldn't have it before the end because of the time pressure, and afterwards it just ends. Mean.

Ugh, I just noticed... one outdoor section is one heck of a small space if you don't surround it with cliff wals to prevent the party from seeing over the edge. You get a little over a quarter inside the section...

What are the 'four aspects'? Did I miss something in this conversation, or is this some sort of external guideline someone laid down for short scenarios in general?

Questions:

a) What do you refer to with "structures"?

b) What's a gremlin "still"?

c) "One original structure wizards lab, gremlin still, bandit fortress, border outpost, volcano, etc." What all of these?

d) Only one town, which is already taken up by the dungeon? Wouldn't that be two towns, or with a 2-level dungeon three towns?

Scripting doesn't seem to be a requirement, so I'll get right on it. :P
