*Psychiatrist draws a circle on a sheet of paper.*

Doc: "What do you see in this picture?"

Patient: "An ENORMOUS breast!"

*draws a line*

Doc: "And this?"
Patient: "A very thin naked woman."

*draws a triangle*

Patient: "Why that's clear! It's a vagina!"

Doctor: "Have you considered the possibility that you might be thinking about sex a bit much?"

Patient: "Now STOP RIGHT THERE, Doc. What're YOU doing, accusing ME of thinking about sex?! Who drew the dirty pictures, you or I?"

I can't run AIM *Or* ICQ now. Only msn works, which is rather ironic, seeing as on my earlier connection I labored for months (unsuccessfully) to get msn to work, while aim and icq made no problem at all.

With the difference that 2 people I know use msn, and 6 icq, and 20 aim. Gah.

I'm going to have a permanent internet connection rather than a router and a proxy in a few days, meaning I get to use MSN and Yahoo and all that fancy stuff soon. Right now, I'm only on AIM and ICQ, and I use ICQ a lot less than AIM. But it's all the same to me, cos' I use Trillian. :P

Oh, but I would never *complain* about being canned, which takes half the fun out of canning, no? (I hope). You and Zephyr, however, have been perfect canning material. You don't cease whining about it. :)

bigblue: I don't understand it either. But hey, it's your decision to stick to it, not mine. :P

The boards have been emptier without me? I've got mixed feelings about that: On one hand, I didn't miss out that much. On the other, it means I'm responsible for a lot of traffic here... should I feel guilty for that, or guilty for not keeping it up recently?

I don't know if anyone noticed my absence (nor do I particularly care, seeing as quite a lot who did notice were probably quite happy with it :P ). So, all you people, here's another opportunity for you to post. Say you don't know who the hell I am but welcome back anyway.

So, here's the thing: I've started an apprenticeship for 'MATA' (Mathematical&Technical Assistant) about two weeks ago, which is basically a combined math and programming course over three years. First two weeks are Java, then two weeks of linear algebra, and so on. It's wonderful, interesting, it includes completing a pre-diploma in Technomathematics, and if that weren't enough, I get paid for it! So you might say I'm a little ecstatic right now.

Of course, to such a marvelous things, there must be downsides. The place where I do this is over 100 km from my home, so I had to move into a room there. Needless to say, I couldn't take my PC with me, since it doubles as a RAID server for my dad's files. So I had to wait until now for a laptop, and on Monday, I can finally arrange for a connection from my room (I'm posting this from home right now, not from my new PC). So that's why you got two whole weeks of a break from me.

Or, to put it in blunter terms, "IVE BEEN GONE! BUT NOW IM BACK! YAY LOL OMG WTF!!!11"

I'm nearly equally interested in linguistics, philosophy, science and mathematics. To put off deciding what I'm going to study eventually, I've gone for an apprenticeship for now.
Since mathematics, as of now, is the only thing where my skill even approaches my interest, I've started an apprenticeship as MaTA (Mathematical/Technical Assistant) in Aachen.

Three days ago, to be exact.

It's a sort of mixed math and programming course, combined with a university course for Technomathematics (meaning I'll end up with a diploma as well as the MaTA qualification), and I even get paid for it!

So, naturally, right now I'm feeling rather elated. :)

I don't know where I'll go after this (in three years' time, when I'm 20), but I want to keep learning for as long as I can. Gotta use the time before my brain grows rusty. :P

That our German keyboards (I don't know if it's in all of Europe or just us) switch z and y as well might have added to the confusion. On my keyboard, you'd have to slip pretty badly to mix up u and y. :P

Mostly because the servant minds aren't really creatures you easily sympathize with. Basically big ugly blobs vaguely resembling fourlegged animals, with an even more vaguely human face. Most of them are deranged, and those that aren't behave like robots.

Since the servant minds were made to have more mental capacity than serviles, I wonder why Jeff never included a servant mind that could develop its own thoughts...

I do like neutrality, which is why I joined the Awakened. I can understand that the Takers have gotten a rough deal and want some backpay, but it's not my job to help them get it. At best, it'd be to convince them of a more efficient way to improve their lives than revenge.

Interesting nobody here agrees with the Obeyers (in RL terms, not in game terms)... is this just because we're all kind-hearted, freedom-loving and openminded? :P

Edit: After re-reading, I noticed it's a bit obscure what I'm talking about. This refers to entering Erika's back room.

It has been accomplished as I remember (I don't know whether for Exile or for Avernum though), but the thread where it's explained has been long purged. Presumably, it would be in my archive, but I can't be bothered to look right now. Also, I'm quite sure there's nothing of any interest back there. Easter eggs are commonly placed where people don't *think* of going, not where they *can't* go. :P

Silly maybe, but effective. That's exactly what made me win the battles in DwtD. :)

And I agree that in some cases you might want an Undead boss to be immune to Simulacrum. Right now, that's only possible at the cost of having him immune to Repel Spirit as well... that might make sense if casting it gave a message like "This Undead is too powerful to be affected." When it instead gives the message "This monster is not undead", it looks rather dumb.

I'm normally predisposed against any websites that play sounds or music. Especially because in spite of my broadband connection, the mid file frequently freezes while the site is loading, resulting in a sound much like a badly stuck record. And if I could, I'd strangle every single web designer who causes Javascript alerts to pop up automatically when loading.

Other than that, the site isn't too bad. Just another Exile site with a different design, so? :)

TM has been freed of his responsibility a thousand times. I have only completed two thirds of my quota.

It becomes increasingly hard for newbies to accomplish this. Call that fair? On the contrary, I think this will lead to newbies spamming the *** out of these boards. Not what we want, surely. :(

Worth it? in Blades of Avernum

Unlike in Blades of Exile, the scenarios that come with the game are already close to worth the money, imho.

And seeing as people like, say, TM, have adapted to the new medium already, I'd say tons of quality scenarios are a matter of time only. Roses of Reckoning seemed a little shallow, if only because the storyline didn't leave much open to choice, but Emerald Mountain was the best one I ever played. :)

Edit: Kelandon's right. :P

Doesn't killing the asleep (non-hostile) golems make the town, including Khoth, hostile?

I killed the efreet before going to the golem room, then I heavily blessed and hasted my archer (in BoA, finally, archery is actually *powerful*!). I entered the room, but went as far from the demon golem as possible, and picked off the awakening golems one by one (one becomes hostile each turn, and I killed them before they were able to act).

Once the demon golem can't recharge, he's quite easy to take out with some well placed arrows.

I once used the default party (ie, two melee fighters/archers, one priest, one mage). Then I used my own, which includes one fighter, two mages and one priest, which gives me more firepower.

Now I use only two PCs, one as heavily armed Mage/Priest/Fighter, and one as Archer/Fighter with a few priest spells like Heal and Bless. It works out wonderfully. :)
