Site Sucking Software? in General

Teehee....

I found a site sucking software that can actually handle this, and I set it to download the general forum. :D The only problem which I just noticed is that the forums are by standard set to display only the topics of the last 5 days... and the others are only accessible by selecting a scroll down menu, which the program cannot do. So it's a bit obsolete given that the purge only affects anything beyond 45 days. :(

I don't think they'd crop the announcements... it's only a couple hundred posts, not taking much webspace.

Mh. I guess there is an unwritten rule against reopening locked topics round here, but couldn't we make an exception in the case of that Pralgrad Civil War RP? As the imho most successful Spiderweb RP to date, I think it should stay publically available, just as an example. If it can only be found in some archive offsite, next to nobody who will come to these boards after now would see it. :( And it's certainly something to be proud of, no?

I move that the RP threads 'Baltazar the Mad' and 'An RP in the world of Avernum' be reopened and bumped in order to make sure they retain their place on this forum. Saving stuff is all right, but there are things that should stay here.

Edit: I take Blades of Exile, pages 29-30. I like starting from behind.

Edit2: Done. All thread pages saved on disk, and ordered by thread number (that's the 6 digit number behind the "t=" in the URL on the forum).

Exile series/BoE:
Jenneke
Thissa
Frrr
Adrianna
Feodoric
Michael

Avernum series/BoA

Aldous
Sschah (sp?)
Cordelia
Mycroft.

Sometimes I use a single PC named Arancaytar, but I like the standard party well enough.

Unless that was a joke, I beg to differ. Any board with members is better than a board with no members, unless you assume said members to be without exception a bunch of imbeci---

Oh. See your point. I still disagree though; some of us aren't complete duffers. :P

Many people west of the Atlantic seem to think that is equivalent.

I myself have never seen someone naked on the streets, summer or no. Germany isn't the most liberal place in that respect.

Mh. I could tell all sorts of stuff now, from feeling like the community would benefit to my participation, to my immense liking for roleplaying games, to my unfortunate surplus of sanity before joining. But that would be bull.

I registered this account because I couldn't get Avernum 3 to run on my computer. Nothing else.

My first post still exists, btw, as I made it in the Tech forum that is posted so rarely in it almost never gets pruned. :)

Or the vampire was disguised. :P I've seen that myth in use in many fantasy stories, the most notable currently one by Rick Cook and one by Robin Jarvis.

Note that the bit about undead not crossing rivers went partly into Tolkien's Nazgul... even if it has a very natural reason (ie. drowning in a flood). I've seen it in use also in Robert Jordan's Eye of the World and Garth Nix's Sabriel. It only concerns flowing water for some reason, however, and in the latter it doesn't even have to be a river...

Sorry for the double.

Besides the fascination of finding a dead message board (I feel like an archeologist in a way... an internet archeologist), it's even more fascinating if joining gets a response...

I refuse to vote in a poll that doesn't allow me a middle way. Honestly, clothed *all* the time? Heck, what about showering? :P

On the other hand, justifying nudity by saying we're born naked is just plain dumb. We're born small, why grow? We're born without being able to speak, read or write, so why learn it? Learning to wear clothes isn't any less natural than learning to read - in some ways more natural, since clothes were invented long before written language.

Indeed. Or this thread might get goatified.

I know the numbers especially for Polaris and TCOA aren't exactly representative, since both boards have had recent resurrections (TCOA only a month ago, but Polaris makes it up by having been restarted about 3-4 times). Still, more than 600 a month... quite a bit.

But why sunlight burns vampires? Sunlight is natural element. It has nothing to do with gods.

I think it's justified by undead being 'night creatures'. Ancient viking mythology had trolls turn to stone in sunlight. Maybe that's where it's derived from.

There's also some belief that undead can't cross flowing water. I wonder where that originates.

Why? In what way is this topic spam? I think it is a meaningful discussion on the survival chances of online boards. No mangos, yaoi(sp?) or lockse here, please. :P

Connections.

On any forum around here, if there's a connections thread, it'll almost always be the longest there is.

Polaris sports 2138 since January 28
Chance has 2470, and 1084 in its new incarnation since April 6.
TCOA has only 622, but it started in July 6.

Well, you see, I just went to invisionfree, looked at their Board Index for Gaming forums, and listed the least active first. Then I went through page by page and did a text search for Spiderweb.

And then I saw that poor little forum with only four members sitting there all alone (*sniff*), and I decided to give it a little company. :P

Yes, as you can see, viewpoints will vary. Thus if you're interested in political/philosophical discussions, Spiderweb (and, to a certain extent, Polaris and Desperance) is your place. If you want to discuss BoE or BoA, you go to the Lyceum.

Spiderweb Software Forums
The Lyceum
Polaris
Desperance
Chance
The Abyss
Wise Forums
Jonnie's Domain Forums
The Club of All
Blades of Avernum Center
Ultimate RP
The Realm of Eldibs

And don't ask me how I found that last one. It suffices to say that it wasn't easy, and involved a tedious amount of search. :P

I will have left out a hundred times as many as I listed. As I said, we only ever see the remotely successful boards.
