You click on the button that says "IM", then you type in the person's screen name where it says "To:", then you type in the message you want to send in the big text field. Then you click Send. Or if someone is on your buddy list, you can click on their name on the list and click IM, or double click their name, and you'll get the IM window with their name already entered. That's the basics. Only msn works, which is rather ironic, seeing as on my earlier connection I labored for months (unsuccessfully) to get msn to work, while aim and icq made no problem at all.
