One other thing. If you come in from the outside you can buy things but not sell anything. Add a pawn shop to sell items which you do not want to leave on the floor. Leaving stuff on the floor is just messy. There could of course be a waste pit to drop things in.

It would make a nice general utility. I could see all sorts of stuff. A small temple to uncurse items-- between scenarios. Anyways, but I digress...

This is also an excellent place to pick out a good science fiction or fantasy book. The first on the list has a new title coming out--
A Feast of Crows-- George R.R. Martin coming in August.

I tested out the HLPM against my super party. I finished all of the blades scenarios with this party plus roses of reckoning. Some suggestions.
1. It is good that we do not have artifacts from other dungeons. Might be nice to see some non-standard items anyways. Put in a table with unusual items-- just as a joke-- pink leather pants, thinking cap, etc. That you can only get using the HLPM. They should be ridiculous.
2. Put in an inn. Sleeping regenerates special abilities. The auto-heal does not. This would help in the arena. Also you could buy food there unusual items like apple pies, sandwiches, caviar, and other useless items like roses-- you find this in Roses of reckoning, or Gremlin wine.
3. Make the audience members come down and fight you if they are damaged. Not the whole crowd, but the audience members who are damaged. Give the audience the ability to occasionally throw things at you.
4. Do a trap test. Different levels of thievery for opening doors, defusing mines and chests.
5. Do a walkaround for the runes if people do not want to step on them to gain experience just use the arena, etc.
6. Hints library-- have a small library with hints on combat etc. Also you could get books which up certain skills.
7. Put in a storage room where you can drop off items between scenarios.

Just some ideas to make it more interesting.

I found resistance in Roses of Reckoning. One more skill to go-- Lethal Blow. I slipped in my super party and bought 2 levels of resistance cheap. I hope lethal blow will be available either through an item in a high level scenario, or as a trainable skill-- huge gold cost -- or even better as a quest fulfillment item. You have to do some major stuff for some ancient warrior who can beat your whole party up with a wooden stick or piece of bamboo to learn lethal blow.

Are we talking real literature or trash I love trash.

For real literature try Nicholas Mosley -- Hopeful Monsters, or The Brothers Karamazov by Theodore Doestoevsky.

Some really good fantasy. Liam Hearn-- Across the Nightingale Floor, Guy Gavriel Kay-- The Last Light of the Sun.

The best reviews for fantasy and science fiction are on http://www.locusmag.com -- this is the trade magazine for the science fiction industry.

I've been pondering literature lately and am definitely thinking Dr. Seuss is far better than Shakespeare. I think Dr. Seuss will eventually eclipse Shakespeare in his importance if he hasn't already.

I know that people are making some test scenarios which they do not want to release under their name. However, there are very few scenarios out there. Would there be a way to release some of the initial scenarios anonymously so we can play them without the persons first try being embarrassing. Like the last one. Just a thought.

Michael Moore - Unfairenheit 9/11 in General

I think Michael Moore is funny. His fabrications are no worse than the fabrications we receive everyday from our current administration.

I can't stand Bush. I don't like him because he is putting himself forward as something he is not. He is not a conservative in the traditional sense. I can't stand neo-conservativism. I do not like his strange religious agenda. When Pat Robertson says Bush was elected by god something is wrong.

I also think Bush is too attached to the Saudis. Osama Bin Laden is from Saudi Arabia and so is a lot of the money which is being used to finance terrorism. With Saudi Arabia one hand gives us oil while the other stabs the United States and Britain in the back. 30% of our oil comes from Saudi Arabia. Wahabism, the religious doctrine of Saudi Arabia is more extreme than Iranian fundamentalism.

I find Bush's foreign policy too hawkish also. We do not need to fight everybody to show we are number one. I see Iraq as a pyrrhic victory.

Bush's energy policy is even worse. We are not moving away from dependence on the middle east. In a year we could cut our dependence on foreign oil by 5% with simple measures. Mass introduction of biodiesel and greater use of ethanol additives could cut the use of foreign oil massively-- both for home heating and transportation. Also wind farms though unsitely have become very profitable.

I hate Bush even more because of what he did in Texas. In California they call it the Texas blackout special. Manipulating energy companies to cause blackouts is more than unethical. Bush's brothers internet company advertised for Blackout Specials. http://www.rackspace.com/aboutus/listings.php?hidelistings=1&detail=1077

Everyday I look at Bush I think of Enron which was a major campaign contributor to Bush. A giant funnel of unethical cash into the Bush coffer.

I have no problem with Moores movie. It is on the same level as the people in our current administration.

I have managed to get most of the skills after finishing all of the scenarios except for Resistance and Lethal Blow. I had to buy Riposte - 1 level so I really can't advance in it yet. I went through Za-Khazi and Dwtd twice. I still haven't got the most powerful spells yet or advanced my potions skills to the top of the list. There is plenty of room for a powerhouse scenario to develop the top skills.

I think of Lethal Blow and Resistance as artifact level skills. I imagine that you could have an artifact with lethal blow--

Vorpal Sword-
7-42 Damage + 1-6 damage/level and strength
+10%attack
+3 lethal blow

Platemail of Resistance
1-40 +40 Defense
+10%Defense
Immunity to Poison
+3 Resistance
15% attack penalty

You get a good ending if you kill Lord Maynard if you do the following beforehand. Find the rebels and notify them that Lord Maynard is using a vampire to kill his subjects. Tell the newspaper man that Lady Pentisle is bitten by a vampire. The empire does not hunt you down then.

But if you give him all three quest items you get two neat items the Mithril Woven Robe, the Shield of Life. Then you can kill him and take the other two items. Plus go in and plunder the rest of his stuff. I passed the first two barriers then got stuck on runes. There is a dead party after the magic barriers in Khoths area. Also one of the walls can be destroyed with move mountains and you can look at some of Khoths books.

It is rather easy to get past the rune. All you have to do is go into combat mode and move sideways past the rune. When all the party members are in the room exit combat mode. You are in. It is a good idea to kill the basilisks in the secret side passage before you do this.

Here goes.
Human- Divine Elite Warrior-- Focus on melee weapons and defense with some bow skill. Solely a melee killer.
Slith-- Divine with Strong Back-- Focus on Pole weapons-- get tool use for this one as well.
Human-- Strong Will and Scholar Priest with strong nature lore and potions. no initial advantage for scholar I am assuming it will help later.
Nephil-- Natural Mage Fast on Feet-- Shaman. Build up throwing skill with mage skills. Plenty of arcane lore. Superfast mage. Always strikes first.

So far have handled everything. Haven't gone to Za- Khazi run finished DwTD before that. Divine Slith can kill anything when calls on gods.

If you really wanted to do it right. You could create a much better fantasy setting than Lord of the Rings. It might be nice to see a fantasy set in the elfland of Lord Dunsany, Charles De Lint, Charles Vess, or the more traditional fairytales with Selkies, and water sprites, redcaps, black nights, seely, unseely, fauns, leprechauns and all of the other boojums and stuff.

Or if you wanted to go far afield you could create a story based on kingship tales like Sundiata Lion King of Mali. Or a mythical cross between African and Middle Eastern mythology set in Nubia, Egypt, and Mesopotamia.

I would like to see Jeff do a combination strategy roleplaying game. Your characters would be linchpins- deciding factors in several battles,
sieges in addition to the regular roleplaying features. They would be the peole who would make the tide turn or stand in several battles. Set in either Avernum or Geneforge.

I happen to like old computer games, but I am not sure where the best place to get them. I do not like many of the 3d graphics in the newer games, I think many of them are poorly done. The only real advantage I see in many of the newer games is the combination feature of rpg and strategy.

It would be interesting to see Jeff do a combination RPG strategy game where you switch from small engagements with a party to larger tactical engagements as part of an army or siege party. Either in Avernum or Geneforge.

I have an extreme distrust of buying old software from auctions (ebay amazon, etc.. Is there a good place to get ye old software which is reliable. I look at the best rated old rpgs and they are not in the stores anymore. have been looking at rpgdot.com top 100. By the way all of Jeff's games are reviewed on this site. Waiting for Blades of Exile for Windows.

want fallout 1 and fallout 2.
