There should be a utilities section added to the scenario list. The 3D Blades of Avernum Editor and the HLPM- High Level Party Maker are utilities not scenarios. I am fairly sure there will be some others as well. I think the Louvre has a 2.5 MB graphics download as well. It might be nice to see these next to the scenarios. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Have some fun with links. http://www.altavista.com/web/adv use: Search with boolean expression: link:www.spiderwebsoftware.com or link:www.avernum.com This should give everything linked to or within the Spiderwebsoftware site-- all 2500 of them, or with Avernum about 200 links. Most of it is trash-- ridiculous personal pages, article reviews, ranting oddness but there are a few interesting things here or there. There are some sites in Italian, Czech, Russian, and German which is kind of interesting. Couldn't find any non-spiderweb listed avernum scenarios though. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. At this point. Try 3-- I think that the fights are much better. They do not need a huge amount of improvement. The items are better. Good grief-- no dragon lord zombies. It would be ridiculous. What needs work is the plot. There needs to be continuity throughout the dungeon, added dialog boxes, and some cut scenes. I would take out a few items. Add in some herbal ingredients outside with some fights for the ingredients. This would improve the terrain. Giant mushrooms and bushes. ;) Also put in some damaging terrain-- swamp, and fire. Throw in a few of the most powerful spells to improve, and two super high level spells for cleric and mage. Then it would be complete. It might still need some tweaking but it would be a solid dungeon. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I liked Doom Moon. It was fun and thoroughly and insanely overpowered. I'm hoping that this scenario will become more like it. I don't die that easy... Captain America is not very smart. He is a super soldier. He is stronger and faster than batman. However, to put it mildly batman is much better trained in fighting than Cap-- Jujitsu, Wrestling, Fencing, Boxing, Weightlifting. He also has been around a lot longer than Cap, so he knows how to fight a lot better than Cap. All cap does is punch people and wrestle. If it was a standup fight bright lights in an open area cap might have a chance. But if it is a dark night or they are in a maze batman would blindside cap and it would be over. As far as Caps shield is concerned, Batmans cape is as much a weapon as Caps shield. Yes, there is such a thing as a cape fighting... using a cape to entangle, choke, mislead... Plus batman has all those toys. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. Starting to remind me of Doom Moon -- The megabaddy blades of exile scenario. I like the idea of Dragon Zombies. Can imagine one of them saying give me back the Eye of Khoth dag nab it. Suggested plot. It has a basic plot which needs to be expanded a bit. Baddies invade at a weak point in the empire. Basically, the empire has failed to provide enough troops, etc. in a new part of the empire. Thus small cave. Might be nice to see the small cave turned into the small charnel pit after characters leave. Quickfire and dragon zombie thrashed. You become gasp... the last line of defense against an invading army... Side quests-- you run into trapped elements-- get them weapons etc. to help fight the invaders as you move along... or whatever you like. Hidden trading post... npc, sell some stuff. Thus you fight your way through to the great teleporter which you must destroy before the... shows up. Fight at the teleporter... Get to the town. Town is boring. No fights. How about a few vahnati collaborators who wait in ambush or lead you into a trap... Have to leave town warn empire of traitorous empire town or a town of rebels ... Just thoughts. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. History is a story written by the winners or the most prominent. Rarely is it ever true in any sense of the word. History is not factual at most we can hypothesize exactly what happened in some cases we can be close to theoretically certain what happened. You cannot call history hard cold facts. The opinions we accept about history are generally what we think is morally correct. The Bible may serve as a historical document for some people, but for most people it is a more of a moral or allegorical document. :P -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. The bible is an allegorical story. It creates a set of stories based on how we should act. Whether it is "true" in the sense of hard facts makes very little difference. It is a very long complex morality tale designed with pieces to analyze on how to best act and behave in different human situations. There is a lot to think on in the stories which it tells that can reflect on how to handle life. People have not changed in the biological sense since it was written. Many pieces of it still hold true. Because it is largely allegorical and can be interpreted in different ways, when people become rigid about what they think its message is they start acting a little bit crazy. I think of the bible as an article of faith not pure reason. However, science and rationality are not divorced from biblical thought at all. Newton and Einstein both were fervent believers and drew quite a bit of their "inspiration" from biblical thought. Theism led to the ideas of deism or a clockwork universe-- a rationally ordered universe with a set of laws governed by a supreme being. Scientists who are religious can argue that is statistically impossible to have a set of rational rules-- physics underlying everything without the presence of a supreme order or being. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. If there is nothing else. The people who are releasing and trying new things are already doing better than the ones who haven't sent anything out. There were a few good things in the scenario. The trap maze was interesting and a few of the fights were not bad. I would rather have something new and not perfect than nothing. I think of the first few scenarios as experiments. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!" He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome foe he sought -- So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. "And, has thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!' He chortled in his joy. `Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. Hmm. I am no scripter. Just pushing a few people and hoping they will produce a nice new dungeon for me to chop holes in. I wouldn't mind being a beta tester. Been on vacation for a week. How about some insane ideas for Avernum dungeons. 1. As fas as I can tell there has never been a solid desert scenario in Avernum. (I don't see any really decent desert or ruin graphics in Exile or Avernum.) In fact I am wondering if there is such a thing as a desert in Avernum. Maybe an unpassable desert where everyone who has tried to cross it has died would be nice. The Sahara desert was never crossed by Europeans until the twentieth century. It could be a true death trap-- sand storms, heat damage during the day, unpassable fiery landscape, sink holes, all sorts of horrid new critters-- giant scorpions, a dead kingdom in the center of the desert. Crazed religious fanatic Nephilim who travel by night. 2. Where are the barbarians -- every decent empire has at one point had to face barbarian invaders which have nearly brought them to their knees. The sliths are supposed to be this, but they don't strike me as particularly barbaric. (Maybe they might come out of the desert wastelands which Avernum has never had.) Hint, hint ;) 3. Erika Reborn. The great Nephil Shaman Orgun Khan from the deserts of Zahaduen has gone down into Avernum and resurrected Erika to torture her and learn of her magic. He holds her for a long time imprisoning her soul in a soul crystal. Erika eventually escapes learning of an artifact called the Amulet of the Blood Moon from Orghuns library. Supposedly if a vampire wears it, the day will become as night to him and he will be able to move about during the day. Erika thinks that if she gets the amulet and becomes a vampire lord she may be able to return to the surface of the Empire despite the curse. However the amulet is in the lost city of Urik in the desert of Zahaduen. Every attempt by Erika to send creatures to retrieve it has failed. She teleports you in and asks you to retrieve the amulet. Then she disappears quickly. Orgun Khan teleports in surrounded by raksasha, demons, and henchmen and makes a counteroffer... -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Yes I've read it. How amusing. You have to be awfully literal to read it that way. The story would have ended at the line it was written on. Next Saturday I'll yell my head off. I'll blow horns. I'll blow and blow. Next Saturday I'll blow my head off. No one is going to stop me next Saturday. I guess if you yell loud enough you can make anyones head explode. Quite amusing for the anti-seussians out there. Somehow someone grabbed onto this line and the book became banned. I don't really dislike Shakespeare, I just think the way it is taught and depicted is taken out of context in most instances. Shakespeare writes plays. Having to read plays and then analyze them without seeing them is ridiculous. Shakespeare is meant to be seen more than read. The language is not hard to understand. It has a certain beauty to it, but I would much rather not dissect the meaning of the words on paper. Shakespeare is much better on film with a top rate actor. :) -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Dr. Seuss invented the low vocabulary childrens primer. Most of the books have a vocabulary of no more than 200 words which are mostly comprehensible to very young children. He started by identifying very commonly understood english then mixed and matched the wording in absurd combinations-- thus coming up with One Fish Two Fish and The Cat In The Hat. For a long time he was an editor at Random House founding the Beginner books series. :D I think this had a tremendous impact on literacy. I also love his artwork-- it is absolutely ridiculous. I find Shakespeare to be extremely overrated. I would much rather read epics than Shakespeare. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh.
