The story very solidly and loudly terminated with the end of BG2: ToB. Any continuation to the series is a mindless attempt to milk the chain for all it's worth in money.

BG3 is doomed from before it's even finished, frankly.

And why anyone would use IPX I'm not sure. What's wrong with the Internet? Things only become MMORPGs when it's run in one worled, as opposed to NWN where you run your own server.

Uh... if TM was willing to let you use his time machine, I greatly doubt you'd need that much. After all, Louisiana went for only $15 *million*.

Well, following that string of logic, you might as well go back even further in time and buy the planet. The only problem would be explaining the value of your pieces of paper to everyone before somebody tries to kill you.[/b][/quote]Well, if I would buy the US, a whole load of brainwashing conspiracy theories would come along with it. There are probably so many there's a good chance at least one is true. The said brainwashing technology can then be used on those people. :P

Oh yeah, how could I forget? The music in Myst and Riven is just, brilliant. There's a reason Riven actually bugs you about getting your speakers and monitor tuned right when you first start the game.

Does anyone remember the Myst Mechanical Age theme music? It plays when you have the Mechanical Age book open. The animation and music fitted together, just, awesomely.

PS- UA has friends? Who aren't AIM-bots?

I do. But what I find perplexing is the suggestion is that I had friends at that time. As far as I'm aware I was the only one in there doing the sort of things I did in there that presumably did whatever to eventually kill whatever died (i.e. Room 3).

Someone say SCUMM?

My thinking was "If the original sucked this bad, the sequel has to be better."

I was wrong. Simply no action in either game. Both exemplify why you should NEVER put more value in graphics than gameplay. They simply have nothing gameplay-wise. If there were more games like them, I would give up gaming altogether.

I would equate the gameplay in Riven to going through a maze that has beautiful scenery. I would equate the experience of playing it to stabbing myself in the eyes with a rusty, serrated kitchen knife. Now that I think about it, Riven and Myst are the games I hate the most. Actually, hate isn't a strong enough word. It's more like absolute loathing with every fiber of my being.

quote:
A question for those who despise Myst: have you perchance played Secret of Monkey Island or any of the other SCUMM point and click games? Do you dislike those as well?
Myst and Riven are adventure-genre games. This genre is not nearly as popular as it once was. This is because people are less interested in playing this type of game now. Nevertheless there are people, like me, who will prefer that particular genre to anything else. Have you ever played anything like Monkey Island, or Sam & Max?

It depends, really. I don't even know if I ever thought of Myst/Riven as a 'game'. It was more like one huge puzzle I couldn't help but continually try and solve.

As for Myst III and beyond, I don't really take to them - to me, they're just an attempt to milk the chain for all it's worth. The real Myst series ended with Riven.

Yeah, evidently Jesus is something science needs, badly, to uncover time travel. After all, common physics shows that Jesus is the center of the universe:

Uhm. Actually, it's possibly the most trackable of all filesharing tools. There've been reports of some people getting letters from ISPs for using it illegally, etc.

TM; I haven't heard anything about the author being sued. As far as I know, the media industry has kept strangely away from suing the author. Besides, I think he always made out he never designed it for illegal use, and went on to say that using it illegally is a very stupid thing to do, since it's so incredibly trackable.

Myself, I don't like it much.

Flash I have no idea about. But I remember several internet flash games with a highscore list stored on the server, which would imply that the game sent back some information to the server.

TM: We'd be laughing if he'd set it up and asked us to join it. There is irony in repetitive stupidity. :P
But right now, he's asking about the technical aspect, and apparently that's an interesting subject.

Edit: Corrected.

I'm perfectly aware of what Java/Flash can do, I'm simply saying that any host that doesn't support things like PHP has minimal chance of having ANY method of server side storage like so.

"Clunky." "Might." A BBS in JavaScript. *wibble*

That said, a board could be made in Java or Flash (both are interpreted on the client side, so no server issues like with PHP), but it would not only be clunky and take more time to make than a real forum, but would be basically the equivalent of writing a text document with MS Paint. Possible, but... wrong.

Yes, but you need a server-side element for the message storage.

Eh. I think people ought to open their minds and accept the fact that other people may say things that offend them in different countries. I mean, what's the point hiding the truth? People should accept people making fun of other things, and join in the laughing, even.

Er..I would have voted hydroelectric power if it were avaliable. I don't see how it would be a waste.

Not to mention that electricity is not efficiently storable in mass, at least in electrical form. This is what makes wind power not so good; the wind isn't reliable and you can't store power for when it isn't blowing. It's either blowing and you have electricity, or it's not.

Or so I am led to believe.

I only pray when I need|want a favour or when I'm feeling pessimistic about the future.

Religion in general, I change my beliefs as I go along to suit. Right now I believe this universe|planet|life on planet is likely to be eventually prematurely terminated for reasons I won't go into.*

*I'm talking about the reasons I think it'll be terminated, not the reason I believe that. I just feel like believing it since it makes sense based on the current state of things.
