At the end of the interview that can be read here, some time in March is the estimated release date. Despite my usually patient nature, I find myself getting up every morning thinking to myself like Bob Wylie would: "Baby steps to Geneforge 3! Baby steps to March! Baby steps to Geneforge 3" Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Moving Registered Games from OS 9 to OS X in General | |

I have registered copies of most of Spiderweb Software's games on my iBook running OS 9 and am trying to figure out a way to transfer them to my new iMac running OS X in such a way that my reigstration (stored in the Preferences files, I think) isn't lost in the process. I know only 5 of them or so will run natively on OS X (the others I'll run in Classic mode). Does X store Preferences for each game in the same way 9 does? Can I transfer these Prefs files to X directly and have it work properly? If so, which folder should I put them in? I'm also wondering if I can transfer the folders containing these games directly into the Applications folders on my iMac. When you first run the installer for each game, does it detect which operating system you're using and install different files accordingly? For instance, if I moved my Geneforge folder on my iBook to the Applications folder on my iMac would the program still run the way it should? Would any files neccesary for it to run on OS X be absent? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

For years I've been using n iBook running OS 9, and just recently got an iMac running OS X. I was wondering if ResEdit will work in X when running Classic, or if it will go kaplooee and wreck things on my hard drive. I enjoy looking at the sprite and graphic files of the Spiderweb games, as well as some of the ones put out by Ambrosia, and will miss the ability to do this so easily once I'm all settled down using X. I'm a virtual computer ignoramus — most software issues are nothing more than voodoo magic to me. -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

I for one hope that Jeff makes as many Geneforge games as possible before creating Blades of Geneforge. I'd be more than happy if it's even 7 years before it comes about. We'll be fully occupied with BoA for quite some time, and Jeff really doesn't need to bang his brains out creating another scenario editor so soon! Plot is not only very important in a scenario, it is vital. Which is why I found Canopy a mediocre scenario despite its very impressive scripting, excellent cutscenes, and enormously fun combat situations. The story made very little sense, and after the second nonsensical plottwist infodump I rather lost patience and just determinedly plowed through the rest of it. I really enjoy *Dexter's Laboratory*, *Powerpuff Girls*, and *Samurai Jack*. I don't see *Samurai Jack* as often as I would like — Cartoon Network seems to have a deep-seated aversion to what we in the viewing community like to call "a regular schedule." -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

I hate to sound like an antsy toddler, but I was wondering what the current release estimate is for Geneforge 3? By the end of December, or sometime early next year? This information may already be widely known, but I'm not "in the loop," as they say. Indeed, I'm not even sure where this "loop" thingie can be found... :P -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

My favorite used to be A Small Rebellion, and though I still like it a lot, I now prefer the Za-Khazi Run, mainly because it is the only wholly subterranean scenario (which I'm a sucker for). The underground atmosphere is much more captivating and engrossing than the run-of-the-mill above-ground shenanigans. It also holds up far better on replaying than the other scenarios, because it has lots of fascinating nooks and crannies everywhere, most of which are optional (and therefore more interesting in my view). The first time through you have to sort the wheat from the chaff and leave out most of the side-adventures. So your second and third time through, you can focus on what you left out the previous time. EDIT: For some reason most of my original post was one huge run-on sentence. Shame on me! I like the Rogue's Vest because of the nice missle- and other bonuses. And also because the first time through the scenario, I never found the Pants of Power. :( Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

I seem to be reading more at one time than I usually do. My main reading is usually a novel — in this case, I just finished reading the *Doctor Who* novel *Vanderdeken's Children* by Christopher Bulis, which ended up being a huge time paradox story which I just love. I'm also slowly reading through Mackay's *Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds*, and just recently got my own copy of *The World's Writing Systems* edited by Peter T. Daniels & William Bright. It's most expensive book I've ever purchased, but well worth it — it sets out in great detail the history and orthography of every writing systems in the world. My bedtime reading it, ironically, the H.P. Lovecraft collection of stories *The Loved Dead*, which he wrote with a variety of other authors. I highly recommend all these books to anyone who would enjoy such things. -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

I've had that problem a few times with the Rakshasa graphic being displayed in combat mode. I always use all the correct settings when playing BoA, and almost never switch applications while it's running. I guess it's just one of those bizarre glitches. In my opinion, the very fact that Jeff reguarly produces such great games is more than enough reason for me to praise him up one side and down the other. I just can't understand why so many people are critical of him. Just enjoy the games, people! -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Ah, the age-old conflict between the Haves and the Have-Nots, with a contemporary digital twist. I am, for the record, a Have-Not. Broadband requires special installation in my area and is $10 a month more expensive. Besides, I'm quite happy with dial-up — I have no desire to enter a contest on who can download the entire internet the fastest. People in this country are a bit (well, okay, VERY) obsessed with having the latest gadgets whether they actually need them or not. Shame on you all. <wearily waggles a chastising index finger> Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

I don't — I think they're great. One of my favorite parts in Nethergate was the three statues who ask riddles in the Vale of the Sould. Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |
