I'm glad Jeff is continuing the Avernum saga, but I'm really wondering what else can be done with that world. Apart from having the BoE/BoA communities staking out territories and defending them to the bitter death, the Avernum story was as far as I could see pretty much finished. There's lots of room for "filling in the cracks" so to speak, but it's a strain to see what other Big Things could happen. But Jeff hasn't disappointed in this regard so far, so I'm hopeful. The Geneforge world, on the other hand, seems capable of being expanded almost indefinitely if he broadens the horizons a bit. Let's hope Geneforge 3 gets a bit broader... And I for one hope there is never a Blades of Geneforge so that Jeff can continue his own story expansion unhindered and uncontested. (As a side note: I keep reading these wonderful siglines and "from" bits — quotes from The Prisoner, now from Farscape. And lo and behold, it's the same guy but under different names! I've finally taken a hint and written down your member number for future reference so I'll recognize you next time, especially after our SF interchange in the "Travel Between Islands" topic. Your names always seem to have the intials B.S.C. so that's also helpful. It makes me a bit dizzy when people are constantly switching their names around, but it never ceases to amaze me what a variety people come up with.) -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

I'm using Safari 1.2.3 — but as I said, I've not encountered this problem with HTTP downloads. I tried an FTP download from another website and encountered the exact same problem. Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Even if Raleigh wasn't a big city the odds are astronomical that he's the book seller. My remark wasn't intended as a serious suggestion! Hence the " :P " Also, I've never heard of Raleigh because I live on the west coast. I've been to South Carolina a few times but never got the hang of the local geography. Too many small towns smooshed together all over the place, and I found the lack of real mountains very disorienting. Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

This is about as wildy off topic as you can get, but I saw at the base of your post that you're from Raleigh NC. By a staggering coincidence, I bought a copy of *Myst: The Book of Atrus* online a couple of weeks back that arrived in the mail today. The seller was in Raleigh NC. I'd never heard of the place before! I don't suppose you're the seller? :P Back on topic, I'm glad to hear Geneforge 3 is almost done. My teeth are wearing down from my pathetic grinding of them (if you'll pardon the tangled syntax). Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

quote:I worked on the basic idea for my scenario for a year or more before BoA came out, and up until early January of this year it fleshed out nicely. However, when I came to using the editor to put the towns together, I found the interface very awkward and the crude graphics made it very difficult to see exactly what I was doing. It would take me hours to try to get a single buliding done, because I would have to constantly re-load the scenario in the BoA game to see how these crude graphics translated into 3D. Even though I was using the BoA Cookbook (an excellent document!) it was impossible. Mind you, I'm not terribly good with spatial relationships to begin with, and am not very technically minded, so some of these problems are something I would encounter regardless of how easy to use the editor was. So my rich scenario died a miserable death just as it was being put together. I hope the new editor being developed by various people is finished some day so that I can have better tools for completing it — for one thing, from what I read it'll have the 3D mode which will speed things up considerably. But I'm very sad that I won't be able to enter mine in the scenario contest. [ Saturday, March 05, 2005 11:54: Message edited by: Icshi ] Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

It's always interesting to see how these threads wander off topic. :) I emailed Jeff yesterday to get the keys for my OS X versions of various games, and I mentioned how eagerly I was awaiting Geneforge 3. In his reply he stated "Geneforge 3 is moving right along" which is encouraging but also conveniently ambiguous. Still, one never does want to bring down the wrath of the gods by being overconfident and saying things like "Oh yeah, it'll be out next Tuesday guaranteed, a real piece of cake, that." ZAP! You're rushed to the hospital and can't complete the task at hand for another six months. Or KATHUNK! a tree falls on your house during a thunderstorm. They'll find a way... I was able to download the games just fine using the HTTP transfer method, rather than the FTP. I don't know what that means, but it did work. Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |
