EDIT: Whoa! Accidental TRIPLE post!

I got some message about "flood protection" being enabled on the board, and all sorts of craziness ensued...

My first reaction was: Why is it taking so long to load?

My second reaction was: Uh? What the heck?

My third reaction was: Isn't that the startup screen from Avernum 1, but with a lady in a slinky red dress thrown in, and a few more rocks to the side?

My fourth reaction was: <whine> We wants the old graphic back!

Well I finally obtained a copy of Master of Orion, and have been playing it almost non-stop for several days now. Quite an enjoyable game, with lots of variety in methods of game play. My only complaint is the rather awkward interface, and some of the graphics aren't too great.

I bought Master of Orion II for 99 cents on eBay (!), and it should be arriving soon. The first MoO game I got more as a sampler to see if I liked their approach to the conquer-the-galaxy genre, and I do. I'm looking forward to even more variety, detail, and niftier graphics in this second one.

BoA Music? in General

I don't listen to any music while I play BoA. I like to hear the game's background noises and sound effects clearly as I play ? it helps establish the mood, and further adds to the illusion of actually being there.

Text editors were discussed in a different thread, and as per Jeff's suggestion I've downloaded and started using BBEdit. It's a wonderful tool and I heartily recommend getting it. The "show line number" function is particularly handy.

Nethergate was the first Spiderweb game I played, and it still holds a special place for me. I'm also a history enthusiast, and really enjoyed its solid basis in fact. Nethergate's probably the Spiderweb game I think on most fondly, so I guess it would qualify as my favorite.

Long Live Nethergate!

Player input? in Blades of Avernum Editor

You might try to set a Stuff Done Flag if you get the desired input with check_text_response call. Then later, if you want to check if they had gotten the correct response earlier, you can just have it check that SDF.

EDIT: But if you want to actually store a specific string of text for later use, I don't know a way of doing it.

Six months ago I switched to Earthlink from my local (and incompetent) ISP, and so far am very pleased with both the pricing and the quality of service. I use dial-up but they have high-speed available as well.

Also, I live in a small town in the middle of the Mojave Desert, and they have TWO local connection numbers here, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

This is precisely why it's a good idea to not even make jokes about such things — it gets people thinking along those lines, and there are always those who take it seriously.

I started a similar topic a while ago;

http://www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=15;t=000562

Based on the number of responses I've gotten (next to nothing), I think everybody else is equally confused by it!

I'd have to speculate that that fish at one point had Sylak's Talking Skull because at one point the skull says "I'll give you three wishes if you let me go!" and then hastily adds "Just kidding!" The fish expresses how foolish it felt by saying "Three wishes! What was I thinking!" making it sound like it took the skull up on its offer. Just an idea.

Thank you very much! I'm really enjoying having it...

Back on topic: I think it's absolutely hilarious that they're all called Spider and think humans are cute. It's a simple joke, repeated in each game, but it never fails to make me laugh.

Hey, I wonder if Jeff's going to include some GIFTS in Geneforge 3? Maybe that's what Easss was working on behind the sealed door? The ultimate irritating creature to pester the Shapers into submission! :P

Maybe it's there just to mystify and puzzle. If so, it's served its purpose admirably especially considering it's a *Puzzle* Box.

In the outdoor section near the end of the run (the section just below the Trog fort straddling the river, and just above the Lair of Casser-Bok), you'll find a series of tunnels in the southeast. As you go through these tunnels some will collapse on you — find the uppermost tunnel and enter the cave there. If you have the Drake's key, you can unlock the door blocking it and gain access to some nice treasures.

And to answer the original question, no you can't do much exploring after completing the scenario's quest since the route back through the Palace of Khoth has been blocked off by a wall. You can only explore the uppermost outdoor section, which isn't all that interesting.

My first time through the Run, I barely made it to the Fort in time and with tremendous difficulty. I later explored the whole Run in great detail by entering the scenario a few times afterwards. Not only did this give me the chance to poke around in every nook and cranny, but since my party was a higher level it was much easier and more fun.

There are some suggestions that are in very bad taste even if they're intended as frivolous humor. Pirating software from from a great shareware firm is one such topic.

And my apologies for threatening medieval-style execution. Something more modern and humane, such as the guillotine, would've be more appropriate. ;)

Why are there so many players out there who instantly go berserk upon encountering the friendly talking spiders? I think they're great fun and I always look forward to encountering them in each of Jeff's games.
