Just finishing up "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. They meshed quite well. -------------------- Fly beyond the ocean, over the mountains, past the moon and across the face of the sun, never to come home again. Posts: 161 | Registered: Monday, October 8 2001 07:00 |

Did someone say the Canterbury Tales? Oh ho ho, good times. Lucky me, I got to use a translation when I studied it, and then we only covered a couple of the tales before moving on to Beowulf, which was much simpler. Oh man, what was it, the Miller's tale? People all kissing each other's butts and getting farted on, hah! It's not so much the very content of the story that I find amusing, but more the sheer fact that someone back in the day thought it up and wrote it out in ye olde engifhe. -------------------- Fly beyond the ocean, over the mountains, past the moon and across the face of the sun, never to come home again. Hum. This thread still about people not posting, or is it about backpacking trips now? I for one usually only post when I've got something I want to say. That is... not that dang often. I still come to visit on occasion, though. This place is kind of a niche, though, you know. A board intended for use by the fans and supporters of a single shareware game maker. It's only natural that activity is not huge, but sadly, lack of activity leads to lack of interest, leading to only less activity. It's kind of a vicious spiral. Edit; Well, I suppose it's only right to conjecture remedies, huh? I suppose it wouldn't hurt to link to the main site in sigs at other, bigger boards I mess around in. Mention the place to folks looking for a good game. A few of them might filter through to the forum, or maybe even buy some of Jeff's stuff. What is the weirdest thing you've ever seen? -A naked woman covered in golden body paint, riding a horse dyed purple. What is the weirdest thing you've done? -With friends, driving around at night and shouting at pedestrians as we passed by "just to freak them out". What is the most humiliating thing you have ever done for money? -Padding and embellishing my skills and achievements on a resume. I honestly find it humiliating I did that. What is the most humiliating thing you would ever do for money? -How much money are we talking here? I don't really know what I can and cannot do until the briefcase is in front of me, so to speak. If you could travel back time, what historical event would you like to witness “live” and why? -Cavemen painting on walls by firelight. If someone made a movie about your life, what would it be called? -"How to waste the best years of your life obsessing over academics." If you were a meal how would you describe yourself? -High Calorie, crunchy, probably fried, but rather tasty, I'd like to think. Have you ever gone a whole day without wearing underwear? -Uh. Being in the womb doesn't count, so I don't really think so. What is the stupidest thing you’ve ever bought? -Oh, one of many gewgaws and trinkets that are likely collecting dust in a basement. If you had to kill a SW member, who would it be and why? -Uh...? I don't really frequent this place enough to have grudges! If you had to pick between TM or Alec, who would you pick? and WHY?(You can't ignore the question, you can't answer neither, and NO it's not for killing) -??? Uh. I know! I'll settle this one with a GIS. ... TM, because I like the image results better than Alec's. -------------------- Fly beyond the ocean, over the mountains, past the moon and across the face of the sun, never to come home again. Rogue and Roguelikes - Yum yum yum! Same goes for MUDs, but thank goodness the university refuses access to telnet, or else I'd waste even more time online! Avernum's results bar is towering above all the rest. Edit; Hum. I suppose CRPG's such as Planescape:Torment or Baldur's Gate are too new and don't really have a place in the poll, or did I miss them? Could you ask him, maybe, why the KKK have/had such goofy titles? "Imperial Wizard" you mentioned already, but I've heard others, like "Grand Cyclops" for instance. -------------------- Fly beyond the ocean, over the mountains, past the moon and across the face of the sun, never to come home again. I had to choose "A couple of minutes", since it's the smallest one, when in truth I haven't checked up on this place in months. Probably because I can't really get any Spidweb games right now. Glad to see things are still running, especially that RP thread I see. I always thought those were a neat idea. -------------------- Fly beyond the ocean, over the mountains, past the moon and across the face of the sun, never to come home again. I first found out about Spiderwed Software sometime in the late 90's. I was cruisin' for free game demos, and Spiderweb delivered. I decided to try the Avernum demo and was hooked. I did everything in the demo, and prowled the edges of the demo in frustration, cursing that shareware demon, so I got off my ass and registered. My party had levelled up to about lvl20 in the demo alone, so I exploded out of there, and proceeded to kick ass all across the caverns. Unfortunately, since I've been moving around and going to universities since then, Avernum 1 is not only the first Spiderweb game I've played, but also the only one I've played in full. :( I will remedy this one day. -------------------- XXXIII Not hear? I have always wanted to pull an incredible and horrible April Fool's prank, probably involving a blimp and some fully clothed mannequins filled with ketchup, and the hurling of said mannequins from said blimp. I will probably never really do it, for fear of accidentally hitting someone with a mannequin and really hurting them. :( -------------------- XXXIII Not hear? If you REALLY want to do multiplayer, you could get friends to come and let them control different party members in the regular Spiderweb games. "Oh, dude, it's Ssss-Nosss's turn! Hey, Jim get over here and play your turn!" But that would be kind of lame, and your friends will probably think you're really weird. A small question dealing with First Aid: Would it be possible to tweak the First Aid skill in the BoA Scenario Editor to make it less useless? If you were in some sort of horrible cursed dungeon that keeps sapping all your spell points, it might prove to be a way to heal. Or would carefully placed caches of healing potions be a better way to accomplish this? -------------------- Fly beyond the ocean, over the mountains, past the moon and across the face of the sun, never to come home again. I've always been fond of Spartacus and Ben Hur. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, if only for the Oompa-Loompas. Those dudes kick ass. The Big Lebowski had its moments, so I'll give it a mention here. I especially liked the dream sequence. Heh. Saddam Hussein. -------------------- XXXIII Not hear? I remember, once upon a time, long ago, I tried to make one of those MUD dealies based on the Avernum/Exile games. That sort of thing is pretty damn hard to do, so I just got angry and gave up and went off to throw rocks at trees. Perhaps someday... The images come first, when I'm imagining stuff, usually. Unless it's words I've read that are sparking the imagining, in which case, of course, the words come first. But once the images are good and imagined, it's usually pretty easy to translate them into words. -------------------- XXXIII Not hear? When noise was everywhere! it tolled Increasing like a bell. Avernum's humanoids have apparently earned a place amongst the great and famous creatures of fantasy! The Slithzerkai, Nephilim, and possibly others are listed with their peers at: web page Wikipedia is cool. I recently finished Beowulf, by... somebody, and Mostrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett. They were quite alright. I'm trying some Thomas Covenant the Ubeliever right now, and I'm not too sure about it. If it does not begin to pick up in the next few chapters, I may forget about it. So, what've you all been reading these days? Anything to recommend? -------------------- XXXIII Not hear?
