Understood. I don't think anyone will be pleased by this announcement, but I doubt anyone will be surprised either.

Regarding A4: it's not all bad, it's just that there are a lot of things about it that are easy to make fun of. My view is that it was a (mostly) good standalone game, but a bad Avernum game. I suppose its sales figures show that most of your customers are not continuity wonks like us.

Remember how at 5000 posts I celebrated with MMMMM, in which I changed my name every day for a month to commemmorate wacky incidents of medical malpractice from throughout history? Well, this is going to be like that, only with pseudoscience.

Today's name, N-Rays, are a kind of radiation that doesn't exist. A physicist at the hilariously-named University of Nancy saw an electric spark in one of his experiments that looked a little brighter than normal, and immediately decided that it must be because he'd discovered a new form of radiation. Several other researchers then claimed to see the same thing, to the point that they started arguing over who discovered it.

The whole house of cards fell down when a visting researcher secretly dismantled the apparatus supposedly producing the radiation and the Nancy boys still claimed to be observing its effects. It goes to show that it's easy to find the result you want if you don't worry about little details like objective measurements.

I've ignored this for the longest time, but it's really starting to get on my nerves. Mac is not an acronym and should not capitalized as such. It is merely an abbreviation of Macintosh.

Now don't go making assumptions. I'm sure he also calls a perambulator a PRAM and a refrigerator a FRIDGE.

Didn't the Shapers on Sucia end up as shades as a result of attempts to extend their lives through necromancy?

That said, it IS possible to play as a non-cannister user. You just can't do very much :P I believe somebody did it once, and ended up as a level 5 Shaper.

Well, that was also a deliberate low-level game, and I'm pretty sure he had the common sense to use a Guardian. :P

Either a two-handed sword or two one-handed swords. Shields aren't really all that good for fighters, although bucklers are a nice extra source of defence for mages.

He once claimed to play every BoE scenario he received to ensure it wasn't utter crap and its content wasn't inappropriate for the SW tables. He certainly doesn't have that policy now, as evidenced by what TM got away with putting in some of his G and PG-rated scenarios. Whether he still plays BoX scenarios at all, I couldn't say.

It occurs to me that if you want to do the numbers, it might be useful for Synergy to post the endgame stats of his Infiltrator and Slar to work out how many skill points it'd take to make a Servile with equivalent skills. If it turns out that the Servile can in fact get the same skill profile at lower cost, well, that sort of settles the debate right there.

The main page of the forums no longer links to the profile of the most recently joined member. Is this some kind of anti-spambot countermeasure?

Strange. All weapon damage displayed are multiplies of d7. Like the guardian claymore 10-70. It is d8 in GF2 however.

It's possible that Jeff goofed. There's a well-known off-by-one error in BoE monster attacks; all attacks do 1 die more damage than they're supposed to (so a 1d8 attack is treated as 2d8).
