There have been logic board and video issues with quite a lot of Macs in the past couple of years, particularly iMacs, eMacs and iBooks. If you start having problems with other applications over the next few weeks, it's probably a hardware failure. The good news is that Apple is offering free out-of-warranty repairs for many of these problems. Check this page to see if your model of Mac is one with known issues.
