From the newsletter: quote:This makes me happy, though I haven't finished the original. Maybe I should do that when I've got some free time, since I did get the game. Anyone else excited? (what a silly question to ask....) -------------------- Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy, and taste good with ketchup. I didn't realize the engine had changed enough to merit a revamp. Unless... it not going to be Avernum4ized is it? -------------------- You lose. Posts: 2156 | Registered: Thursday, August 24 2006 07:00 |

Maybe this version will explain the Sylak Puzzle Box and the three fwishes. -------------------- I tried to think of something witty to put here. Needless to say, I failed. Posts: 2686 | Registered: Friday, September 8 2006 07:00 |

We'd damn well better find out what the Puzzle Box does this time. [ Monday, December 04, 2006 21:24: Message edited by: Thuryl ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

The only way we're going to find out about the Puzzle Box is if someone figures it out since Jeff forgot. The original Nethergate runs in OS 9 (Classic) so just updating it to current OS X and Universal will be an improvement. Jeff did say he was planning to add new dungeons unique for each side. I hope that he doesn't lose the elevations in the update to take advantage of the new game engines. Jeff told the Geneforge beta testers that he was doing Nethergate at the same time as Windows Geneforge 4, so it should be ready late spring/early summer I hope, Then it's on to Avernum 5 with a better plot. People who objected that A4 was a hackfest usually cited Nethergate along with A2 as examples of what they wished Spiderweb would get back to. Now we have G4, which has all the sorts of things these people were wanting, and soon Nethergate 2.0. Even though Nethergate 2.0 is just a remake, not a new game, I think Jeff has said it will have some new content. So everyone should be happy. But it isn't the sophisticated criticisms on these boards that have made this new turn happen. It's the throngs of people buying A4 that have made Jeff feel safe enough for the moment about his mortgage payments to be able to indulge his Aahht. So people who want more sophisticated Spiderweb games ought to do their best to give Jeff's latest products free publicity. -------------------- We're not doing cool. We're doing pretty. that was the first thing I thought Aran. Tyran isn't logged onto AIM. I was waiting to tell him, but now I have to sleep. It's sort of funny that he probably will be the last person to find out. -------------------- You acquire an item: Radio Free Foil Posts: 1169 | Registered: Monday, September 23 2002 07:00 |

I must say I'm quite unhappy to hear that, because he promised he would make sixes for the Avernum series, enabling people with Mac OS 10.4.8 to play them. I sure hope he is still going to do that. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Give us your drek! Do you think that the remake will be given a new name (eg Exile became Avernum) or not? If so, what do you think it will be called? -------------------- Milla-Displacer Beastie This is also a good site Posts: 650 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

I wish Jeff would go with the times and publish an RSS newsfeed for his company news. That'd eliminate the need to check the page every day. A "latest news" html page is so 1990s. :P Edit: Hm... he uses Dreamweaver for his webpage? Template syntax looks familiar, as does the javascript code for the navigation bar. :) [ Tuesday, December 05, 2006 06:21: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. He said before that there would be no engine change, but I don't think I'd count on that. If Neonethergate sells well maybe there will be sequels or, even better, further games in the same vein! —Alorael, who would be surprised if the game created from the inspiration of a huge cliff near the beginning lost cliffs altogether. That would be odd. Also, hooray!!! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

This is good. I'm slightly apprehensive, because this is the only Spidweb game I finished to find out the ending rather than out of a sense of obligation, but very pleased. I just hope that it's not a faithful conversion - the more new and changed stuff, the better - provided the Romans don't become decent spellcasters, I'm happy for any surprises. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: Never Proved to Be a Contributory Factor to Stomach Cancer Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |
