To be fair, the Shaper ending didn't imply (at least to me) that the PC did it for personal gain. Certainly, pretty much every character in the game, both Shaper and rebel, thought you were in it to save your own skin, but that's to be expected when you're working as a double agent. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! If all else fails, cast Essence Armor and Augmentation, put on your best energy-resistance gear, have your creations stand well clear, and run through. If you're careful to trigger only one pylon at a time, it's survivable even if you're a lifecrafter who's never put points in Endurance. To get across that bridge in the northwest, you need to have done the refugee quests back in the Fens. I think troglodytes are actually the most plausible PC race on that list. They're not particularly overpowered, and there's no real evidence that they're stupid -- their mages are almost as good as human mages, and better than nephilim. I'm not sure how many people would actually want to play one, though. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Did you clear this new domain name with Jeff before registering it? I doubt he'd get too huffy about it, but it seems like it'd be worth doing. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

If you don't use canisters, it's actually possible to betray the Rebellion at the very end and still survive. Admittedly, you still end up exiled to the Forsaken Lands for life, but at least it's something. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! It's been a while, but I think you only need an alchemy skill of about 8 or 9. If you have the recipe and the graymold, you can make it the way you make any other potion -- there's a button or a menu option for it somewhere. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! The servile technicians are in the rebel camp, but even Miranda tells you to go and try to get help from the rebels. There's no reputation requirement to get them, although there is a Leadership requirement. Also, using a lot of canisters is going to come back and bite you if you're going for the Shaper ending. You can get training in shaping from Shaper Duncan in Rivergate Keep (the big fort in Dillame, where you meet Alwan). You'll need to have talked to Alwan, and to have a half-decent reputation with the Shapers. There aren't any more rebel trainers who will teach you shaping. So if you're a no-canister lifecrafter, staying friendly enough with the Shapers to get training from them is pretty much essential, at least up to chapter 3 (which means you have to get the quest from Alwan to repair Moseh and report back to him after resolving it -- note that even if you kill Moseh, you can still report to Alwan and get passage to the next Shaper camp). If you're just going for low canisters, you can scrape by with only one canister of each of the creation types you're definitely going to use and not have any serious ill effects as long as you don't use canisters for anything else. (As for which creations you should pick throughout the game, Vlish, Drayk, Wingbolt, Gazer and Drakon are all good choices, but you probably don't need both Wingbolt and Gazer.) As for spells, there are a number of people who can teach you: Burkes in Chickweed Bridge, the mage in Therile Colony and the drayk in Illya Safehouse are your three main options at this point. If you're going to buy spells from the drayk, do his quest first for lower prices. Natural Mage makes all your spells better, but the improvement is negligible. In BoA, at least, NM is equivalent to about 5 levels of bonus, which means your spells do, say, 10 points more damage. It's not worth taking just for the spell bonus, IMHO. [ Saturday, March 03, 2007 01:42: Message edited by: Cryptozoology ] -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! In my experience, a higher-tier creation will always survive much, much better than a lower-tier creation. A Drakon costs about as much essence as two Drayks, and has as much HP as both of them put together -- the two Drayks will do more total damage per round, but only if you keep them alive (a Wingbolt, for example, can kill an unprotected Drayk in one hit). I generally switched to a higher tier whenever I was consistently having difficulty keeping lower-tier creations from dying. I agree that wingbolts are generally better value than gazers, though. Well, the Sealed Catacombs are full of canisters. He had to get them from somewhere. It's unlikely he found them anywhere near the area where G4 takes place, since they're an unusual type -- almost all the other canisters in the game just give you spells or creations, but the Sealed Catacombs ones raise your stats.
